CFN Thread #9 (Better call Planning)

WhatIsThisWatt · 02/08/2017 18:24

Okay so I wasn't going to post until I'd had some kind of resolution. However, planning called today to ask if they could access my garden on Friday as they need to do some "further investigation" and have another planning official who will be there to oversee it??

They wouldn't tell me over the phone what it was about (it wasn't Nice Planning Lady, it was someone I hadn't spoken with before)

Thanks pp for the thread title - which coincidentally was very apt!

No sign of CFN/ builders etc.

There's now a sign up saying
NO ENTRY IN TO PRIVATE GARDEN
CONTACT SOLICITORS NAME if you require further information.

Ohallrightthen2 · 04/08/2017 16:53

Mumsnetting planner here again. Great news I am glad the planning dept came through for you.

I have caught up with the thread and some of you were wondering about permitted development rights. Apartments do not have PD rights. Also the building in question is listed so no alterations ,either inside or to the elevation of the building can be undertaken without Listed Building Consent. It also depends why the building was listed in the first place as in some cases outbuildings and boundary walls can also be included in the listing.

Unlike planning , it is a criminal act to do anything to a LB without LBC. Normally the planners will expect the owners to assume responsibility for the remedial work under the supervision of the conservation officer. If the owner's don't do it the local authority will and recharge them. If the building is listed grade 2 star or 1 English Heritage will be involved.

2017SoFarSoGood · 04/08/2017 16:53

Yippee and extremely well done WhatIsThisWatt. You are a hero. Such resolve in the (slap in the) face of adversity. An example to us all. Of course, with such as SpanGran behind you it does give you at a vast advantage to the rest of us. Hope the weather is beautiful for the rest of the summer and that you can bask in your garden, once work is completed.

CFN's of the world, watch out. We've all been schooled in how to beat you at your own game.

GladAllOver · 04/08/2017 16:54

@WhatIsThisWatt usually the council will do the work and then invoice the person. If they fail to pay the council can then apply for a charge to be put on the property with interest. This means when the property is sold the council gets their money back.

Yes, this is standard practice. The Charge will be registered against the property so they get paid from the eventual purchase price.
The Charge will show up immediately when a prospective buyer does the usual searches.

It can even have a negative effect on the property value, because buyers will wonder what has been done to the house to cause the council to be involved, and then go elsewhere.

This really is a disaster for the neighbours who had it done.

Brenna24 · 04/08/2017 16:56

i love both your planning people and your Abuela. Great updates. And it is definitely time for Wine and sangria. I can't join you as I am pregnant, but I hope you really enjoy it and relax tonight.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/08/2017 16:56

Colin not the most bodacious of names

How dare you!

We used to have a guinea pig called Colin.

He was most bodacious!

Stillonthatbloodycomputer · 04/08/2017 16:56

I love sangria sitting in the sunshine in Spain .......but at present sitting in rain in Scotland so with that as my excuse please may I have everyone's permission to leave out all the extras and stick with the 2 bottles of Rioja ..........hic 🍷🍷🍷cheers/ slanjava to a well fought and well won battle to watty and her brilliant team of mn supporters

MipMipMip · 04/08/2017 16:57

Breakfast why exactly were Bill and Eric stripping off there? Just so I can fantasise accurately you understand.

Whattyyy I hate to say this but you may need to change your name for not patio related threads. If this does eventually go to court, and if there is a fine it will, where you live could be identified. And all your stalkers fans on here would know. It's an interesting case with it being a LB so I can see it getting picked up by the media.

Jux · 04/08/2017 16:59

Fantabulous update, Wattyyy!!! You amazing woman you! And lovely man in lovely suit liked your sign!!!!

I have been far too excited reading Wattyyy's update to read the posts, so haven't really caught up. Have the Russia peop shwd up again? Have MNers yet accepted the correct way to eat a cream tea? What is happening with the paella recipe? Is SpanGranPracatan succumbing to Ken's devotion despite the nonexistant car obssession?

Most important, has C8 drowned in a sea of Trello flags and coats of arms or has she shown them who's boss?

AcrossthePond55 · 04/08/2017 16:59

Where I live in the US, the heritage committee here gives you 30 days to submit a plan to rectify along with signed contracts (from their approved list of contractors) and date the work will commence. If you don't comply, they bring in their own (very expensive) restoration experts and do the work and bill you.

Can't wait for CFN to show up. Personally, I think they're 'flippers' who never intended to live there in the first place, just 'do up and sell'. And I think you'll likely never seen them again.

StormTreader · 04/08/2017 17:01

What about if we promise to behave and not knock on the window and ask if SpanGran is home? Or if any sangria might possibly need drinking up? Grin

mumdebump · 04/08/2017 17:02

Changebags We've got a flag and scones ( scons ) with butter, jam and cream and everything. But Betty's fat rascals are even better with a nice cup CF builder's sized mug of (Yorkshire Gold) tea, and also highly appropriate according to the Betty's website These plump, fruity scones are hand-decorated with a cheeky fucker glacé cherry and almond face.

CFN Thread #9 (Better call Planning)
SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/08/2017 17:02

Is there going to be a new thread?

I don't want to lose touch with my extended MN family - especially as none of my real family will give me the steam off their piss tea.

Also - this has been so much fun - I know it will lose momentum, but the Trello Board is a thing of Great Beauty, and maybe Wattyyyy will be able to report sightings of the CFNs and Bs and describe their expressions to us.

Stillonthatbloodycomputer · 04/08/2017 17:03

Of course that spelling should be slainte but thought it best to spell phonetically for the uninitiated 🍷🍷hic

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/08/2017 17:05

For those wondering what has happened to the Kremlin Kids, this is their American Adventure (so far)

AN AIRCRAFT
SOMEWHERE OVER THE CAUCASUS

"I are glad you agreed come with me Vanka. Meeting Sophisticated Lady is stressful time."

"Let me see, let me see . . . AIBU be pissed off . . . AIBU push MIL off cliff . . . AIBU move safe without open . . . What this?"

"VANKA! VANKA!!!! Read - READ - What you think? You think what I think?"

"I here" "What read?"

"Here - read - read!"

LakieLady · 04/08/2017 17:09

Bloody delighted at the outcome, and will shortly be cracking open the bottle of white Rioja I bought specially in Sainsbury's yesterday.

Well done Watty and the planners! The planners have been exemplary (when I reported a breach of listed building and conservation area regs a few years ago, my planning department wouldn't even look at it until I'd reported it in writing, despite the fact that they could practically see it from their office window).

I like the idea of a reunion, with sangria, paella etc.

Watty, I hope you can bear to keep us updated when the reinstatement works start, and it will undoubtedly make a bit of a mess of your garden, that the CFNs will have to make good at their expense.

Maybe we should run a sweepstake on the final cost of this Cheeky Fucker escapade. I reckon the whole lot is unlikely to come in at less than £15k.

Brilliant news.

FrankieStein · 04/08/2017 17:10

@SchadenfreudePersonified Grin you've had me in stitches for days. Please please please start a blog for the Russian adventures

Changebagsandgladrags · 04/08/2017 17:15

mumdebump

Had no idea about the fat rascals either. I've been living in in a cave in NY for 18 months.

Want a FR.

Coldilox · 04/08/2017 17:20

As well as the cost of the repairs, I wonder if they'll get a hefty fine too
