We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we?

Lukewarm Remain voter here. Understand that the Government has to listen to 'the will of the people' and all that.

But for the love of God, now that it's clear what absolute economic suicide we're committing surely we've got to put a halt to it whilst the govt and the opposition work out what the fuck's going on!

Better too much salt than too little, comrades.

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 22:29

I will read that Liney. A stripped to the waist Michael Gove will be the protagonist no doubt,

Fresh8008 · 08/08/2017 22:30

It's because standards for live animals are so low that it's cheaper for them to wash carcasses in chlorine than to comply with higher animal welfare laws like in the UK And yet salmonella is still endemic in the UK/EU. So why not have animal welfare laws and chlorine washing? Or here's a thought, why not let people choose for themselves.

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 22:31

Did you not read my post? Poultry in the USA has the salmonella problem. Not us.

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 22:32

Are you bias(ed) against actual facts?

Fresh8008 · 08/08/2017 22:34

whosafraidofabigduckfart I apologise for the post on the British Isles, I will report it. Am getting frustrated with this thread so will retire from it for tonight.

CardinalSin · 08/08/2017 22:50

Are you bias(ed) against actual facts?

And that's exactly the problem with the Brexiteers.

Don't forget, "we're fed up with experts"

mummmy2017 · 08/08/2017 22:54

Strange isn't it, more people on here are against than for.
People are so fast to shout anything said on either side.
Wonder if this is how it's going in the real life talks.

As I said I am sorry, a lot of things are going to change and we just don't know what or how the Government plan to move forward, and yes on one hand I can understand the need for not displaying your hand, but on the other we all want to know as it's hard to just sit and wait.
I do also think the EU is to blame for a small part of the uncertainty.

TheNightmanCometh · 08/08/2017 23:14

It's not particularly strange if you think of MNs demographics. Average age of posters here is somewhere in the 30s isn't it? That cohort voted Remain.

I realised after I hit post that you were referring your Irish PM rather than my British one. That doesn't change the meaning of the post, how is it you are aware of your PM's inner thoughts? Because politicians are so know for speaking the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
You have clearly learned from experience of politicians to take everything they say with a pinch of salt. I don't blame you for your cynicism. The Leave compaign featured several shameless liars telling huge lies and getting away with it, after all. However, there is no need to assume the Taoiseach is cut from the same cloth. He is not a British politician, nor is he Arlene Foster. Thanks to Ireland's proportional representation voting system, he will pay for any lies he tells.

Fresh8008 Tue 08-Aug-17 21:47:21
Sorry, ClamBakeSnake, that Irish times article is just bias political commentary and only really says 2 things: Ireland has a veto over extending the negotiating period (yeah we knew that over a year ago), and the DUP (a pro Brexit party) have influence at Westminster. And?
I take it you are completely ignorant of the significance of Brexit for Northern Ireland, and have decided to bash a well-thought out article instead of doing a little homework. I also take it that it had not occurred to you at all that Ireland could ever wield any power over Brexit, and that the article actually contained news to you, news you moreover found unpalatable.

mathanxiety · 09/08/2017 03:19

Fresh8008:
Alternatively why can't you have customs/immigration checks in the ROI? It would prevent a ROI/NI border, which is what we are trying to achieve.

Yup, complete ignorance. And makes no sense.

I imagine there are FB and twittter echo chambers in a feedback loop that amplify the Brexit melt down to apocalyptic levels but back in the real world ... just watched the 7 O'Clock news headlines on BBC, Brexit not mentioned once. ho hum. Will try a different channel

And yet here you are.
Why?

Tourism is a massive part of the income for may EU countries, there are several Spanish Island that have no industry other than holiday makers. Infact the newspapers reported on this today.

And they're all Brits?
Or does it just seem that way?

Where British tourists are hated and why:
www.theguardian.com/travel/shortcuts/2017/jan/17/from-barcelona-to-malia-how-brits-on-holiday-have-made-themselves-unwelcome
And of course that wasn't an exhaustive list:
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/britons-behaving-badly-the-stags-guide-to-playing-away-784928.html

In other words, I think there are a lot of places where the locals will be breathing a huge sigh of relief once the Brits stop coming.

mummmy2017 · 09/08/2017 08:07

You do know 1 in 4 tourists to Spain are English.
This is about 25 million people, it's a massive amount of income to lose.
Spain has one of the highest unemployment rates, what do you thing would happen it they lost this trade? 11% GDP
Their own PM has public commented on it this week due to the problems.
Rather a case of bitting the hand that feeds you.

I am was pointing out to Maths that a lot of British go to Spain, are living in Spain, and spend money in Spain.

Sharm El Sheikh holiday bookings rightly stopped after the attacks, and the place is a ghost town, with very little income.
If the same loss of bookings or even 50% happens to the EU next year do you not think this will effect the destinations?
Will this not have any impact on the thoughts of the countries and how they view us leaving?
