We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we?

Lukewarm Remain voter here. Understand that the Government has to listen to 'the will of the people' and all that.

But for the love of God, now that it's clear what absolute economic suicide we're committing surely we've got to put a halt to it whilst the govt and the opposition work out what the fuck's going on!

The Non Eu queue in any airport I have arrived at is always massive.

Surely that is what Brexit is for? You know, keep them out.

But soon it will also be for UK passport holders.

mummmy2017 · 08/08/2017 21:38

The passport checks have been imposed on travellers entering and leaving the EU’s Schengen area which stretches from Sweden to Spain.

Britain and Ireland are not members of Schengen, meaning citizens face checks on leaving or entering the zone.

See it already happens...

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 21:41

The tabloids were in a fury at delays in European airports this week. Better get used to it...

Peregrina · 08/08/2017 21:46

The firm boarder would be entry into the mainland of the UK, and we are already discussing immigration, and there could be a deal about how and what could be claimed by people in Ireland.

So you are effectively telling us that we have a border within a country? That makes it clear that people really don't think that NI is part of the UK.

Fresh8008 · 08/08/2017 21:47

Sorry, ClamBakeSnake, that Irish times article is just bias political commentary and only really says 2 things: Ireland has a veto over extending the negotiating period (yeah we knew that over a year ago), and the DUP (a pro Brexit party) have influence at Westminster. And?

Peregrina · 08/08/2017 21:47

There is another thread running where someone has opined that NI isn't in the UK.

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 21:48

When did people start saying bias instead of biased?

rosietosey · 08/08/2017 21:49

Brexit means that UK passport holders will be treated the same as NON EU passport holders.

Shengen is something that never caused a problem up to now did it?. It is more a pay rise thing IMO. But anyway.

Give us your experiences to the contrary.

CardinalSin · 08/08/2017 21:50

Daily Heil "We need Brexit because EU borders are too lax!"

EU, tightens border controls

Daily Heil "Waaaah! Honest, decent, racitst, idiotic DM readers are being held up at airports by nasty EU"

The stupidity, it burns...

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 21:50

Depressing as that is it doesn't surprise me. Day after day people show themselves to be woefully uninformed.

rosietosey · 08/08/2017 21:54

I am still waiting for the benefits of Brexit to be laid out, 1. 2. 3. and so on.

Silence is what I'm getting though.

Still waiting.

Ah yes, that was so that we could keep Johnny Foreigner out. Not that the other countries would treat us as Johnny Foreigner. Oh no, we are Important, we had an Empire on which the sun never set.

Here you go Rosie;

Littlepleasures · 08/08/2017 22:09

I wonder if the bookies are offering odds on whether it will go through. I'd put a wager on it not happening.

Fresh8008 · 08/08/2017 22:11

It's gonna be the place to be - clorine washed gm coated chicken

What are remainers so obsessed with chlorine? They are happy to swim in, drink it, clean their teeth in it, disinfect with it, eat salads and vegetables washed in it. But chicken washed in it, which the EU says is safe, is somehow abhorrent? Salmonella, which is endemic in raw chicken in the UK and kills people has the right to life. Stay in the EU save the salmonella!

I wonder what Europeans eat when they visit the USA!

Fresh8008 · 08/08/2017 22:13

Quite a while ago.

rosie We Remoaners just don't understand the clearly laid-out concrete benefits on a defined timescale because we don't have enough IQ to interpret the runes. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for doubting.

do you know why they wash it in chlorine
Yes

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 22:20

Ah yes, the latest thing. Leavers falling over themselves to praise chlorinated chicken! You do know why they douse their chickens in chlorine don't you? It's because standards for live animals are so low that it's cheaper for them to wash carcasses in chlorine than to comply with higher animal welfare laws like in the UK

And on the subject of salmonella which you say is endemic in UK chicken well look at these figures. There are 142,000 cases of salmonella in the US each year from eating contaminated eggs. In the UK in 2009 there were 581 cases of salmonella. So yeah, leave the EU save salmonella!

Pesky truths eh?
