We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we?

Lukewarm Remain voter here. Understand that the Government has to listen to 'the will of the people' and all that.

But for the love of God, now that it's clear what absolute economic suicide we're committing surely we've got to put a halt to it whilst the govt and the opposition work out what the fuck's going on!

a man leaving his wife in a mid-life crisis whilst simultaneously being upset that he has to wash his own streaky pants and pay a single supplement on holiday

Yea that is what Brexit is Confused

Catchytune · 03/08/2017 20:47

Talk the country down and it will go down. There is no reason the UK can't stand on it's own two feet. Switzerland and Norway manage to be happy and prosperous and they are on the same bloody continent as the rest of the EU.

Talk the country down and it will go down.

I dont think thats actually possible

retreatwhispering · 03/08/2017 20:53

Well come on then Catchy talk us back up again. I'm extremely skeptical but listening. Norway has loads of oil revenue. Switzerland has dodgy banking. What do we have?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 03/08/2017 20:56

Switzerland has dodgy banking.

I thought that was one of our plans, be a tax haven

But apparently we are not going to do it any more

Scrumpernickel · 03/08/2017 21:02

Talk the country down and it will go down.

These seems to becoming a common refrain with the Brexiters. The economy will only tank if Remainers refuse to believe in sunlit uplands dotted with herds of unicorns.

Fresh8008 · 03/08/2017 21:20

The economy will only tank if Remainers refuse to believe in sunlit uplands dotted with herds of unicorns.

Isn't this the same as the economy will tank if Remainers scream loud enough about every little thing they can?

rosietosey · 03/08/2017 21:23

I've been searching the www for the positives of .brexit. Plenty of negatives coming from threads like this.

Getting our sovereignty back, when did we lose it and what was the impact on us?

Immigration... we always had visa controls for non EU.

Free movement....PM refused to put eu permitted controls on Eu fom. Belgium did.

There is a list a long as the Severn that I could list, but I am on iPad and typing on it is killing me.

We haven't left yet!!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 03/08/2017 21:38

fresh

But what positives will there be?

There must be some...

Peregrina · 03/08/2017 21:38

Switzerland is in EFTA, Norway is in the EEA. Both are in Schengen, both accept Freedom of Movement. The UK isn't in Schengen and never had plans to join, and Theresa May has ruled out Freedom of Movement.

Few ever said it would be uneventful The Remain camp were accused of peddling Project Fear when they suggested it wouldn't be straightforward.

What has May achieved in the one year she has had at her disposal?

Next arguments, please.

rosietosey · 03/08/2017 21:41

@Fresh,

I'm really curious to know what the benefits will be if and when we do leave!

I'm really not getting many positive vibes yet, now I know it's a journey not a destination yet, but still.

I am waiting for the uplifting news!

@Maryz

I really think the NI/ROI aspect could get very serious, esp with DUP propping up Mays govt, and all the rest of it.

I don't think that the public at large realise how difficult this could become for lots of reasons.

Sigh.

Yes the NI border issue will not go away, no matter how much people wish it would. And no DUP it's not up to the Irish govt to come up with a solution. You shat in the bed, you clean it up.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 03/08/2017 21:56

Could someone do me a favour and start talking up the odds of me winning the lottery

I'm sorry maryz

I cant help thinking that was a bit half hearted

mummmy2017 · 03/08/2017 22:01

At this moment in time the EU set how much you pay on how well your country does, not sure if it was a couple of years ago or nearer, but the Uk was the only country in EU to have a good year, do you think we got a pat on the back and carry on great work.
No we got a Billion Pound Bill on top of what we had already paid , and refunds were give to France Germany and others. It was a joke as even Greece were asked to pay more as they didn't do as BADLY as they had been expected.
UK is the EU cash cow, we have for most of our time in EU performed well and been made to pay for it.
Once we are out this won't happen.
And if the EU are worried about their budgets and the holes left, does that not tell you just how bad the accounting is in the whole block.

rosietosey · 03/08/2017 22:13

Maryz

If there is NO open border it will be VERY serious, very. Imv

I'm watching this aspect as it may be the killer blow, forget about finance, science, Euratom, air traffic, fishing ,pass porting etc. Watch this space.

rosietosey · 03/08/2017 22:15

So has anyone filled the thread with Positives of Brexit yet.... I'm waiting

Patiently with an open mind.

Rufus if you truly believe in yourself you shall win that lottery. If you lose, however, it is merely because you are a faithless traitor. The power lies within you and your unicornesque fantasies alone. Invoke your Dunkirk spirit and Gamble for Victory.

HTH.
