We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we?

Lukewarm Remain voter here. Understand that the Government has to listen to 'the will of the people' and all that.

But for the love of God, now that it's clear what absolute economic suicide we're committing surely we've got to put a halt to it whilst the govt and the opposition work out what the fuck's going on!

In my first paragraph, I do mean, of course a 50 mile HIGH wall all around the UK!

ginghambox · 31/07/2017 23:37

Leave 17,410,742
Remain 16,141,241
The UK is leaving the European Union.
Just in time before the "Experiment" descends into total chaos.

thecatfromjapan · 31/07/2017 23:38

I suspect that the whole 'The EU has had it's day. Just wait and see: the UK will leave and the whole thing will fall apart,' is going to be revealed as the biggest, most expensive fantasy of all the expensive fantasies peddled by the Daily Mail and the Leave campaign.

It's clearly not falling apart, The UK's Brexit shambles seems to have revitalised the desire of other members of the EU to remain within the EU (and probably transform it from within).

Unlike the situation outlined in the fantasy literature, the UK is not in a vanguard position, happily detaching itself from a crumbling EU. It appears to be the case that the UK is now going to be outside a very powerful trading bloc, with lessened global influence, losing a lot of it's key economic producers to European cities which are within the EU.

That is a very different scenario than the one outlined by some elements of the LEave campaign.

NameChanger22 · 01/08/2017 00:23

Let's face it, things can't get much fucking worse!

I've heard this said by quite a few leavers and it is possibly the most naive and stupid statement of all.

Of course things can get a million times worse. Have you never been outside the EU, or watched the news?

Kursk · 01/08/2017 00:54

Ha! My family members who haven't left the UK are preparing for full on economic collapse.

Dad said that he would probably end up as a British refugee crossing the channel to get into Calais

StrangeLookingParasite · 01/08/2017 01:04

One of the things I've seen recently that horrifies me is possible trade deals with the US, the worst, most polluted food production in the world. The EU standards are a different world. I feel very sorry for you if you have to accept all the chlorine washed chicken, feedlot beef full of hormones and antibiotics. .. the US system prioritises money, not quality or animal welfare. They will do awful things unless expressly forbidden.

squoosh · 01/08/2017 01:10

Onwards and upwards, to the hardest Brexit possible!

Life must be so simple for you when your brain cells are in single digits.

Valentine2 · 01/08/2017 01:22

Let's face it, things can't get much fucking worse!
Life must be bad for you to say something like this!
But trusts me, I have worked outside EU, you have no idea of what sort of "worse" you are talking about.

Valentine2 · 01/08/2017 01:23

Please ignore my grammar/spelling. Too slept and tired.

Your dad is talking bullshit. If he really believes that, I'd be seriously concerned for him.

Kursk · 01/08/2017 02:16

I am not concerned for him, everyone is allowed a backup plan

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 01/08/2017 02:23

Well he would certainly be right at home on the preppers board Grin

Kursk · 01/08/2017 02:27

WhatToDoAboutThis2017

Yes. Yes he would (me to secretly)

TheDowagerCuntess · 01/08/2017 03:29

Let's face it, things can't get much fucking worse!

Exactly how sheltered and uninformed are you....?

scaryclown · 01/08/2017 04:26

When the world economy is USA, Middle East, Asia and Europe and we are a tiny economy with a few guffawing posh people doing OK versus the rest of the population in poverty with a rapidly weakening pound, well wake up..
Oh, wait..

scaryclown · 01/08/2017 04:27

I was looking forward to getting back to cheap flights and rapidly expanding economy... Hmmph

LadyWithLapdog · 01/08/2017 05:00

Let's keep to the plan: cut our nose to spite our face, say leavers.

diamond49 · 01/08/2017 06:05

I do not believe there is any consensus that the UK eii be worse off after brexit especially long term. The effect certainly will not be homogeneous across the socioeconomic spectrum

LadyWithLapdog · 01/08/2017 06:12

There may not be a consensus, but every strong indication that it'll get shittier.

makeourfuture · 01/08/2017 06:33

Regardless of the will of the electorate at the Referendum, why do they keep fumbling along with no plan? Nor any real sense that they need one? Is it incompetence? Or ignorance? It is a rolling disaster.

Hufflepug · 01/08/2017 06:39

I don't know where we're up to.
Have we agreed to fulfil our financial obligations or still arguing about that? How much exactly are we coughing up?

EU say our plan for EU citizens in UK isn't satisfactory - what are we doing about that?

What is our plan for Northern Ireland?

Are no remainers concerned about the mounting sovereign debt crisis in the EU?

Also those saying 'things can't get much worse here', what a load of crap. Lool at Spain, Venezuela, or a load of other plces with unemployment or massive economic problems. Half the probkem in this country is that people don't realise how good we have it.

Staunch remainer and horrified at the folly of Cameron calling a referendum in circumstances where there was no Brexit plan (not even high level) and where lies were a deliberate feature of the leave campaign. I can't think of a single high profile leave campaigner whose views I have the slightest time for (Gove, Johnson, Leadsom, that man from Wetherspoons who now wants an exemption for his bar staff......). It is a ludicrous thing for the UK to embark upon.

However I don't want another referendum. I'm not whinging or 'remoaning '. There is a Trumpesque pigheadedness about those who blindly voted leave and who steadfastly keep saying 'leave is leave' or 'Brexit means Brexit' without for a moment looking at the reality.

What brexit will look like changes on an hour by hour basis and we look like imbeciles on the world stage. Transition for foreign nationals in the morning to an about turn in the evening. It's a shambles.

Finally, what makes me absolutely resolute that there is no sensible way to deliver brexit is the simple fact that no one is challenging May for the leadership. She's a lost cause post GE and her approval ratings abysmal. But the night stalkers who dream of leading the Conservatives are strangely silent ...... cos the last thing they want is to have to pull together this fucking disaster.
