If the window ever was a fire escape (highly unlikely) then right of way through OP's garden must be mentioned on her Lease/ Freehold. If this is a new fire escape (why would you trap yourself in the Middle of an inferno) then right of way/access should have been applied for and the OP notified. A quick call to the solicitors should solve this.

TakesTheCake The builders were obviously in her garden yesterday hence the new addition of cigarette butts. Unless they were planning to knock another massive hole in the wall for those other doors I'd say they intend to replace the doors with ones more similar to the OPs after receiving the notice to stop works. Building materials were also moved outside and disposed of which they weren't supposed to do.

Ps I'm back in Northern Ireland now so that's another for your list

I assumed cigarette butts could have been flicked out via another window (if there was one) rather than conclusive proof that someone had used those doors to access OP's garden.

Pretty sure, as an intelligent woman who's followed, and is continuing to follow, (RL) advice from the appropriate (RL) authorities every step of the way, OP is perfectly capable of differentiating between (RL) sensible, legal and safe actions....and lighthearted daftness and escapism on here.

Indeed, she's repeatedly said these threads have kept her spirits up during this entire stressful RL saga.

And, in contrast to the very few true cases of "egging on", she's had plenty of moderating, cautionary advice throughout from knowledgeable MNers in relevant fields of expertise.

References to past MN threads which escalated into serious RL consequences have been made from the very 1st thread.
Hence why a lot of posters (me included) know OP interprets our suggestions entirely as fantasy, not literal encouragement.
