If 20% of children in a particular primary were drequently in trouble and their parents frequently rowing, id assume id made a terrible Choice of school And move them!

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/07/2017 18:01

Unfortunately that's not true NicolasFlamel. I always wanted a gay, premiership footballing son, but despite DS's keen interest in hair accessories (he got his first sparkly rainbow hair band when he was 2) he is heterosexual and not sporty at all. I just don't know where I went wrong.

Banderwassnatched · 29/07/2017 18:01

LadyP- can I ask, are all hair bows tacky? If I tie a ribbon in my daughter's hair, is that tacky, too?

My daughter's nearly 10, and she does her own hair- so she and her friends will like it, not their mums or their teachers. I just don't understand why that would make you angry.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 29/07/2017 18:02

They have been around for quite a while in one form or another. Some are nicer than others. Prefer the cat ears though.

Im quite shocked by the language throughout this thread to describe in the main 6-9 year old girls. What mesaage do you send saying if a girl wears a particular item she must be a particular way / class / pregnant at 16?!

Replace hair bow with short skirt and think about what youre saying.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 29/07/2017 18:07

Hideous but totally necessary for any 7 year old round here.

I wore a shell suit at that age, who am I to judge.

Aworldofmyown · 29/07/2017 18:10

Hate them - horrid things. However, the kids love them so, meh!

Not chavvy or tacky just a dubious current fashion.

Passmethecrisps · 29/07/2017 18:13

I am absolutely boggled by this thread.

I used to teach a girl who, at the age of 16 wore a flipping massive bow in her hair. She was a dancer and pretty much top of her game so I presume it didn't hold her back any.

It also never occurred to me as her teacher to think anything about it. The idea of being annoyed or consider it a distraction is frankly ridiculous. If a child wearing a large, colourful bow in her hair is the worst you are dealing with in a classroom then you are awfully lucky.

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/07/2017 18:13

I used to wear a Cindi Lauper necklace, does anyone remember them? A plastic chain that you hung loads of plastic keyring things on. Now they were tacky!

reuset · 29/07/2017 18:16

The large bows for young children come and go in fashion history. We have some old photos from the 1920s (probably my grandmother and siblings) with girls and hair bows. Tacky? Who knew Grin

Old fashioned ribbon bows are gorgeous bander

And for those saying they aren't a distraction in class, I totally disagree. We've had arguments because someone's now is bigger than theirs, that when them off for PE someone has taken them, that people can't see past some of the massive ones on top of the head, etc, etc, the list is endless.

elisa2502 · 29/07/2017 18:25

Hideous

BlurryFace · 29/07/2017 18:26

Can't believe some of the classiest, judgmental comments brought on by fashion accessories for preteen children. Chav/chavvy is a horrible word, derived from Romany for "child". Funny how all the enlightened types will defend homosexuality and Asian/black people to the hilt, but you're still happy to stick the boot in the vulnerable working class.

Sorry, I don't see the difference. I have a drawer full of ribbons, they get braided inti my hair and my daughter's hair, tied into bows, we have hats, clips, clasps, glittery stuff- and I cannot see the difference between those and the JoJoBow. The only difference between the 'beautiful traditional bow' and JoJo is the branding. We've come to a point where people can't see a hair bow for what it is, because of branding, and that is stupid.

Take it from someone who has spent hundreds on hair adornments over the years- those market-stall bows will break within 2 days. Our JoJo bows are not broken.

loubar101 · 29/07/2017 18:32

You guys would hate me, I'm early 20's and sometimes wear bows in my hair (albeit not jojo ones or as big) Grin

Do explain, Penelope68. The current trend isn't all diamanté encrusted bows, many are little different to the 1920s bows.
I'm surprised some schools still allow them. They're banned in many of the primary schools here, apparently.

reuset · 29/07/2017 18:35

I was just about to look for a photo, Missgame. That saves me the trouble. That's a typical example, too Grin

Banderwassnatched · 29/07/2017 18:35

The huge ones are banned at our school. Happily JoJo do a small 'suitable for school' range, smaller bows in black and dark blue, which pass muster with the teacher. A lot less hassle than fidget spinners.

reuset · 29/07/2017 18:37

Msgame*, sorry (not Miss)

Banderwassnatched · 29/07/2017 18:37

Loubar- I do too. But I had twins aged 23, so maybe I'm 'chavvy'.

Hollipopsmum · 29/07/2017 18:39

3yo did has the smallest one in baby pink it looks quite cute in quite often with a pony tail - she only has it as 8yo is obsessed with them - hated them at first but have grown to tolerate them Smile. If she's only 3 get the ones from home bargains- a quarter of the price and virtually identical

Jemimapuddleduk · 29/07/2017 18:39

My dd loves the smaller blingy bows and has loads of them. Once she's at school she won't be able to wear them. You are only young once, why not experiment and adorn yourself in the latest trend. I remember having hair wraps done when I was younger and wore some pretty horrific tye die and global hyper colour tat. I think the jojo bows are much cuter than the trends we had back in the 80's!

FrogsSitonLogs · 29/07/2017 18:40

I think they look ridiculous.
