Margot and Maraget be careful not to cause offence.. there are teen parents on this board you know Hmm

Oysterbabe · 29/07/2017 16:32

There are some really fucking vile, snobby comments on here. You are talking about a hair accessory for little girls not crack.

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/07/2017 16:33

Dd has 5 real JoJo bows and 2 fake ones plus a massive bow. She has had them for presents and bought with birthday money etc. Totally harmless. She likes to wear them dancing. That's traditional ballet/tap/modern etc, not nipple tassels. She's 9. And no, I don't anticipate her being pregnant before she sits her GCSE's Hmm.

MargotLovedTom1 · 29/07/2017 16:35

Oh FGS not giving in I was rebuffing what MargaretTwatyer said in a mildly sarcastic way.

Balfe · 29/07/2017 16:36

Like them. If a wee one wants to spend their money on a hair bow I am certainly not going to stop them!

implantsandaDyson · 29/07/2017 16:36

Yup - this thread really shows MN at its best - referring to a child's hair accessory as tacky, chavvy, revolting, hideous and making assumptions about how a primary school aged girls future is going to pan out because of a hair bow.

JacquesHammer · 29/07/2017 16:37

Fashion has no social significance or semantics and never has done. Suuuuure

And if that was the dicsussion then no issue. But it isn't - its an excuse to feel superior to a kid wearing a bow because you think them "chavvy" or "common".

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/07/2017 16:38

They're horrible but so were Madonna bows in the 80's and we all wore them Grin

Sirzy · 29/07/2017 16:39

Socially there is a massive mix at DS school. That doesn't show in the bow use though at he last non uniform day (they are banned in uniform) I would say well over half the girls where wearing them irrespective of "class"

TinselTwins · 29/07/2017 16:39

Meh! Kids like tat, let em at it!

45 year old women though….

RainyDayBear · 29/07/2017 16:39

I dislike them, but I wore hair mascara in the 90's... Therefore I do not judge!!

megletthesecond · 29/07/2017 16:40

Not only does dd have jojo bow I also have a soft spot for 'Boomerang' . Blush #peaceouthaterz

GreeboIsACutePussPuss · 29/07/2017 16:42

Every time I see a girl with one of those on her head I get a distinct feeling she'll be pregnant before GCSEs. I was pregnant before my GCSE's, I went into labour during my final exam, I can confirm it was totally down to my choice of hair accessories and general chavvyness actually I was a goth and would have died rather than wear anything so popular, but you know, that's nowhere near stereotypical enough

Anyway, back to the point, JoJo bows look ok on some girls, not many though and I suspect a 3 year olds head is way too small to pull it off, amazon however have some really cute smaller bows.

couchparsnip · 29/07/2017 16:47

DD (9) loves them and so do most of her friends, it's just a fashion and will go away soon. A few years ago it was loom bands, who cares if they are a bit naff if it keeps the kids happy!

noeffingidea · 29/07/2017 16:48

Such a shame that even young girls are judged in a sexual way for their choice of clothing. Especially by other women (making assumptions about those particukar posters).
Buy your daughter one if she likes them , OP. It's just a fashion, a fun one that will die out before too long.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 29/07/2017 16:48

My DD's (6 & 4) love them and I think they look cute. Lots of girls at their school wear them... (in our very affluent area I might add)

MargaretTwatyer you sound delightful Hmm

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/07/2017 16:50

Margaret Yes, my dd is really rough Hmm. Perhaps they're actually banned at your ds's school and some kids continue to wear them. Otherwise it would be a sea of the, as it was in dds school regardless of 'class'.

Margot. I'm still not getting the sarcasm.

ScarletSienna · 29/07/2017 16:52

As fashion fads go, I think they're pretty great: they can be worn by anyone regardless of size or shape without feeling self-conscious, they come in fun colours and patterns and they're not overly expensive (especially the non branded ones).

I would have loved them when I was at primary school! I wouldn't put one on a toddler or baby just because I like them but if a dc was old enough to choose then I would let them.

Passmethecrisps · 29/07/2017 16:52

What are we actually talking about here? Large hair ribbons? MIL bought a big rainbow hair clip for my 4.5 DD. I said "thank you very much, she loves it" now I realise she has ruined my daughter's life chances and I should have gone NC.

If a child really would like something like this and the parent has a couple of quid to spare I cannot see why it is an issue.

Pollaidh · 29/07/2017 16:53

Awful, tacky. DD (7) begging for one as one girl came to school in one and now it's spreading even though the parents hate them. If I have to capitulate, she may be allowed one to wear in the house only. That's what some people are doing.

TheFairyCaravan · 29/07/2017 16:54

It's a harmless bit of fun.

I really can't see how you can tell that a girl is going to be pregnant before her GCSEs because she's got a bit of ribbon in her hair. What are the boys wearing who are going to impregnate said girls Margaret?

JacquesHammer · 29/07/2017 16:54

And you know Margaret with regards your totally crass post regarding teen pregnancy, and your smug little pat on the back that you have sons..... It's quite often a teen boy that gets a teen girl pregnant. So I wouldn't be celebrating just yet.

Gonegonegone · 29/07/2017 16:55

I'm pretty sure my hot pink cycling shorts & teenage ninja turtles tshirt were tacky af in their day also. Raffelo didn't get my knocked up before I got my MA though.

Marcipex · 29/07/2017 16:55

DGD has a fake one. Although huge on her head it looks quite cute. She hasn't much hair so actually the big bow makes her look more like the others.

sonlypuppyfat · 29/07/2017 16:55

How on earth can a ribbon bow on a young girl be hideous etc! Where you lot never little
