Tacky but my 9 year old is a fan: the bigger and brighter the better. It's just a fad, let them have the fun.

ChickenBhuna · 30/07/2017 11:09

Agree Lola!

The only kids' fashions that I have any kind of issue with are the ones that sexualise (sp) our young people. Heeled shoes , teeny bikinis etc. A bow is fine imho.

NevermindtheBollocks · 30/07/2017 11:20

What's the difference between a fake one and a real one?.... Surely a bow is a bow regardless of where it came from?

Talith · 30/07/2017 11:20

I loved big bows like that in the 1980s. I think they're cute. Not exactly a neck tattoo!

MsGameandWatching · 30/07/2017 11:27

My daughter has never watched Dance Moms in her life and neither have her younger cousins who also wear them. She likes them because they're pretty colours. On the back of this thread and some of the disgusting comments on it, I have been searching for photos of girl's wearing them historically and there are LOADS. Google "historical hair bows" and they look exactly the same as the ones girls are wearing today.

Fine if you don't like that look but it's not for you is it? Anyone who labels this chavvy and common is just a horrible snob, honestly what else can you be when you're slagging off little girls and their families the way some have on here.

Something that made me laugh was someone I know in RL moaning about how vile they were and her kids would never have them, as she stood there with her blue and purple colour slices in her hair.

reuset · 30/07/2017 11:37

Anyone who labels this chavvy and common is just a horrible snob, honestly what else can you be when you're slagging off little girls and their families the way some have on here.

It's a misplaced snobbery, hilariously, and unwittingly, highlighting their own utter lack of class.

Lyricaldancer · 30/07/2017 14:17

Just to add that JoJo always conducted herself well and seemed like a good role model.

HateSummer · 30/07/2017 14:40

What's the difference between a fake one and a real one?

A real one has a little metal tag with a heart on it sewn on the side of the bow Grin
My dd has a few, and I've never stopped her just because I dislike them. What's tacky for an adult is fun for a child. Making them wear dull black and white and brown in childhood is cruel. That's another reason why I dislike Myleene Klass 😂😂

NevermindtheBollocks · 30/07/2017 15:09

Thanks hate I didn't realise JoJo was an actual person until I read the post above yours.

I'm so behind the times!

dotdotdotmustdash · 30/07/2017 16:43

Dotdotdot but did said leg warmers and Ra Ra skirt caused you an underage pregnancy?

It was tough, but I managed to hold out until I had finished Uni and turned 27...

JacquesHammer · 30/07/2017 16:46

Hate try finding clothes to dress your kid in who only wants to wear black. It's tricky Grin

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/07/2017 17:53

I didn't know JoJo was a real person. My DD is fed up of them, it's a fad that will go as quickly as it came and the arseholes on this thread will have something else to sneer at.

Sirzy · 30/07/2017 17:57

I only realised she was a real person when I saw a shopping centre locally post they had sold out of tickets to meet her in seconds last week!

winglesspegasus · 30/07/2017 18:11

busy
actually they are much more popular in uk.
and what little was here(usa) went out about 6 months ago

that being said they are children ffs
i am sure you are/were very chavvy when you were 8

m0therofdragons · 30/07/2017 18:49

I think they look ridiculous but I'm pretty sure my parents felt the same about some of the stuff I wore as a dc. Dds would love them but dh is saying no - no idea why he suddenly has such a strong opinion but it's a very clear no. Might have worn him down by Christmas - I mean, I can't always control what Father Christmas puts in their stockings. I can't see it's much to get stressed about.

People do judge and as horrible as the word "chavvy" is, the reality in this life is people make an instant judgement based on your clothes etc. I guess it depends whether you care about that. I don't. A colleague always made odd comments and finally it came out that she thought I was a single mother with a council house - I'm fairly well spoken, grammar school educated, married to my childhood sweetheart for 14 years and own our house. My point is, people will make assumptions and at least I can laugh at dcs' funny childhood fashion sense of giant bows 😂

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 30/07/2017 19:21

Very tacky. Waiting for the children to take off at any moment.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 30/07/2017 20:57

I think they look ridiculous

They don't look ridiculous. They are pretty and fun. And worn by children.

If any recent fashion item justifies being called ridiculous it is jeans with ready made tears and holes. Worn by grown - ups. I wonder if any of the posters on here who have said bows are chavvy, tacky, tarty, cheap, ridiculous etc are in the Venn diagram sector of people who wear jeans with ready made rips?

Ojoj1974 · 30/07/2017 21:00

Awful!!! However, smaller bows, hair bands minus diamanté are lovely. Look on Trotters website for the smart versions!

m0therofdragons · 30/07/2017 21:08

Me: I think they look ridiculous

Other poster: They don't look ridiculous

Er okay, you don't think they do but in my opinion they do. By all means disagree with me but you thinking they don't look ridiculous isn't going to alter my opinion Hmm

HateSummer · 30/07/2017 21:11

Jacques she designs b&w clothes for babies and small children though! Put them in bright oranges and yellows and rainbow stripes when they're small, that's what I say!

nevermind neither did I until DD kept going on about JoJo siwa on YouTube 😆. She apparently has 7 phones: iPhone 6 and 7's as dd told me yesterday 🙄.

The posters calling the kids who wear them chavs

I thought it was a new contracrption - most boys would run a mile

Lyricaldancer · 30/07/2017 21:30

Trotters website is poor quality, I've found. It might be ok for something like hair bows, but you can buy grosgrain bows like that anywhere.

letmepeeinpeace · 30/07/2017 21:36

Lulu bows here!! Much cheaper! DD7 loves them

Pigface1 · 30/07/2017 21:38

I think they're ugly tat. But they're completely and utterly harmless, and I wore some equally ugly tat in the 90s (velvet alicebands emblazoned with child's name in glitter?? Bright orange Kappa popper trousers? Shudder).
