I think best friend should be played by Joanne Froggatt (sp?). and yy to Dame Maggie. In the Grade I house next door. Margaret Rutherford could be a helpful spirit who flitters in and out through the walls giving OP updates.
In the style of Shakespeare/Love Actually/Greek Drama etc., we definitely need subplots -

Purveyors of news/interest, Fairies, spirits, ghosts (Shopkeeper, box room friend, NNDN, planning boy, Dcats, and TEKL), Hades/Brutus/Lock Stock baddies = CCFFNs, NewDaddie (and his Mammie), and builders.
Definitely Laurence Fox, Tom Conti, and Rupert Penry-Jones in planning office. Just so Olivia Coleman has someone to explain things too.
It will all culminate in a scene at the airport with MM/Spanish nana, and all the other characters meeting CFNs off the same plane coming back from their Spanish mini-break. Hilarity will ensue.
