CFN patio doors onto my private garden thread #3

Wattyyyy · 28/07/2017 12:22

Okay I thought I'd start this for when they inevitably show their faces!!

Sorry all the threads have different titles Confused

I have a slight update - I managed to catch the nice neighbour at the other side (I think he'd heard the commotion and was loitering about waiting for me Grin )

He was gobsmacked! Apparently he's lived here for thirty years and has never heard anything like it. I told him I'd keep him updated and he asked if i wanted to come in for a cup of tea, I politely declined hahahah. Glad I now have a nice normal neighbour on my side!

cjt to stop people from fucking about with them JUST like this!

cjt110 · 28/07/2017 13:25

SabineUndine I agree,. Lets say the garden was communal and their home was not listed. It'd be common fucking courtesy to warn a neighbour of building works

Oliversmumsarmy · 28/07/2017 13:26

Surely there is no way you can buy a listed property without knowing it is listed. It would be all over the Estate Agents details and also all the conveyancing stuff. The CFN cannot claim ignorance

Your solicitor makes you aware of the fact it is a listed property before you sign anything and tells you exactly what you can and cant do.

Ignorance is not a defense.

cjt110 · 28/07/2017 13:26

SabineUndine But why - is the purpose to protect a historical/important building?

NaymeChaynge · 28/07/2017 13:26

Place mark!

blueskyinmarch · 28/07/2017 13:27

I hope the CFN come back soon but i fear they are away for the weekend.

KinkyAfro · 28/07/2017 13:27

Can someone link to thread 1 please please please

IloveBanff · 28/07/2017 13:28

The planning people have been and gone! read thread #2 at Fri 28-Jul-17 11:44:00

SabineUndine · 28/07/2017 13:28

What if . . . what if the builders are relatives and decided they'd provide the CFNs with a nice French window as a surprise . . . without telling them first?

I'm letting my imagination run riot here, yes?

Rachel0Greep · 28/07/2017 13:28

Daily Fail would love this, OP. I would hate to give the satisfaction of getting a news story out of it. Tbh, I think it must be very stressful for you. Fair dues that you are coping so well with it.
Someone mentioned already about the disruption for you, and I presume the mess created. I would make sure all of that is documented also.

FUNM · 28/07/2017 13:28

maybe a twitter account?? CheekyFingNeighbors@gardenzillas for regular updates - pretty please

cjt110 · 28/07/2017 13:29

Yes Sabine

I'd still like to know, who the fuck employs builders from 100 miles away...

SabineUndine · 28/07/2017 13:29

cjt It may be historical, or it may be of architectural importance. By a famous architect or the first time something was built that way.

Valentine2 · 28/07/2017 13:30

I can't believe that they haven't comeback yet. Definitely away for a break and definitely have heard from the builders so their break is broken. Grin good luck op.
Makes me so happy when at least some CFs get the blow they work so hard to deserve.

fourquenelles · 28/07/2017 13:31

Catching up during the lunch break of the 100th Test Match at The Oval. This is almost as exciting as the cricket!

Funko · 28/07/2017 13:31

Can't wait for Barry and Gloria to get home with their new potted pampas and BBQ set 😄

WoofWoofMooWoof · 28/07/2017 13:31

I once lived across the street from a house that had been extended 1cm too far into the passageway between it and the house next door (without PP). For over a decade, a For Sale sign would go up and a week later a Sold sign. Two weeks later a For Sale sign, a week later a Sold sign. Nobody was allowed to buy the place because of the PP issue. As far as I know, in the decade since I moved, the place is still standing empty. The owners can't sell it because of that illegal 1cm, and they're not allowed to live in it. Expensive mistake.

Nothing to do with your story lol, just thought I'd share Grin.

Wattyyyy · 28/07/2017 13:32

Haha I can't believe how many posts there are, I'm trying to keep up!!

How do I stop the Fail stealing my threads Angry

I don't know if I'm allowed to cable tie their doors or put anything infront at the moment as the planning folk told me not to touch anything... I might drop them a quick email.

Love the image of the CFN finding out via Facebook!!

SabineUndine · 28/07/2017 13:34

Who, the Fail? I believe garlic is the best way of warding them off.

newdaddie · 28/07/2017 13:35

Wow this thread has got legs!

@Wattyyyy

Please please do not approach the CFNs and if they approach you just be civil but firm. Heritage/planning will take it forward.

A couple of pp mentioned building control too, because of all the measuring etc the lady did it sounds like the two departments may be combined for enforcement in your area but it's worth checking and making a separate enquiry so that they can look at any possible structural/construction issues.

The work imo counts as construction (even if it was done in a day) so the builders may fall foul of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015))_ even if the work is structurally sound, there is so much wrong with what they've done from H&S perspective (section 4) not letting you know, leaving dangerous items unattended etc

CFNs are definitely hiding or arranging a quick sale and one way tickets to Mexico

TaggieRR · 28/07/2017 13:35

Via mumsnet I mean!

cjt110 · 28/07/2017 13:35

Anyone reckon the CFN's have gone to Maui for a week?
