Okay I thought I'd start this for when they inevitably show their faces!!

I have a slight update - I managed to catch the nice neighbour at the other side (I think he'd heard the commotion and was loitering about waiting for me )

He was gobsmacked! Apparently he's lived here for thirty years and has never heard anything like it. I told him I'd keep him updated and he asked if i wanted to come in for a cup of tea, I politely declined hahahah. Glad I now have a nice normal neighbour on my side!

It does sound like they arranged to be away while the work was being done.

Have they come back yet?

I agree that speaking to the solicitor you used when buying the house and getting them to write a formal letter to CFN would be a good idea.

You could also ask your solicitor for advice about whether you could bill them for damage to your garden / access / inconvenience if you were so inclined (I would be!).

I just want to see the flats. Is it one of those old tenement style buildings that had the courtyard in the middle? I live for that shit.

When they come home can you sit on a deck chair in the garden and give them that mothers "I'm not angry, I'm disappointed" face?

I wouldn't go anywhere near them, the planners will put a stop to it. they don't need to know it's you that caused the monstrous massive costly reparation problem planners to get involved.
It could be anyone in the building/complex, heard the noise, looked out the window...

Maybe you should leave them a box set of Porridge or Prisoner Cell Block H for them and a handy manual called "101 things to do indoors when you don't have a garden".
