Those of you who have recent work or study experience.

Would you mind listing institution names and their policies?

NC if you need to of course.

Curry I use cis to describe myself, because in my social circles it is seen as polite.

Assassinated I will from this point forward only use cis to refer to myself, my friends (who I know are cis) and anyone on this thread who has identified themselves as cis.

I feel really gross about using simply trans women and women, because it feels really horrible to my trans friends. Would it be acceptable to use natal/biological women instead of cis?

hasitcometothis33 · 26/07/2017 23:34

Absolutely not a thread about trans at all this one

MissBax · 26/07/2017 23:36

Just use "women" ffs!!! We're WOMEN. Not cis / biological / natal(wtf?) just women.

IAmEatingACurry · 26/07/2017 23:36

There's nothing wrong with being trans.

Quit erasing people and their identities please.

And stop yelling "transphobia!" every time someone disagrees with you or looks at things from a different viewpoint to you. You're not helping anyone.

AssassinatedBeauty · 26/07/2017 23:37

Biological/natal/born women is better than cis if you're looking to clarify what your talking about.

IAmEatingACurry · 26/07/2017 23:37

But can you not see why some people might not want the trans prefix to go and might want to keep it?

IAmEatingACurry · 26/07/2017 23:38

Biological/natal/born women is better than cis if you're looking to clarify what your talking about.

Or just women if you're talking about people who aren't trans. No idea why some people here have such a problem with women and transwomen.

hasitcometothis33 · 26/07/2017 23:38

Who's 'yelling transphobia' curry?

confoozed · 26/07/2017 23:39

I am not trans but I think if I were I would feel that same as you Curry.

You're experience is not identical to non-trans people (sorry if I get the terminology wrong and so why wouldn't you want that recognised. I completely get that. I am not identical to all women or all feminists!

May I ask what toilet you would prefer to use? Womens/ unisex/ gender neutral? Assuming they blocks rather than individual units like disabled toilets tend to be.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/07/2017 23:40

Would it be acceptable to use natal/biological women instead of cis? My understanding was that natal and biological were now considered transphobic. I'd prefer people knowing the difference between sex and gender and the terms 'man' and 'woman' being kept to refer to sex.

Who's 'yelling transphobia' curry? You're quietly and repeatedly implying it. Unless I've missed something...

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 26/07/2017 23:40

Really???? Are they actually offended or are you just being offended on their behalf. I ask because I'd have to start taking shoes off if I had to count up my friends who are trans and literally none of them buy into this whole transactions stuff. They, like Curry just want to be accepted for who they are which are transmen and transwomen.

Loopsdefruits · 26/07/2017 23:40

curry nobody has said there's anything wrong with being trans? Or tried to remove the word trans. Or erased people's identities.

MissBax natal means born, and was used upthread as a preference instead of cis. I have said, and will say again, I am not simply using 'women' and 'trans woman' because I feel that is super gross and othering to people I love and respect, I'm not going to say they're not real women even in places where they won't know about it.

So when requiring a distinction I will use biological women and trans women, not that that distinction needs to happen on this particular thread, as most organisations seem to have established gender-based identity policies...to much success.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 26/07/2017 23:41

*transactivism not transactions obviously

Loopsdefruits · 26/07/2017 23:41

Formerly absolutely they would be offended, it's not really viewed as very nice in my social circles, and were I to talk that way at uni I'd probably get in trouble for transphobia.

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 26/07/2017 23:42

Derby Uni, main campus... 1 gender neutral toilet (set of 5/6 cubicles). SU has a women's officer elected.

hasitcometothis33 · 26/07/2017 23:42

Where have I done this then? Unless I've missed something

PiratePanda · 26/07/2017 23:43

At mine (London, Russell Group), we have men's loos and showers; women's loos and showers; and unisex loos and showers. I don't know about changing rooms, as I work there and change in my office if I have to!

Very recently we have had a few loos that have completely self-contained cubicles (loo, basin and mirror behind a lockable door) turned into "gender neutral" loos, but I don't really know why, as surely the unisex loos are de facto the same thing.

I'm pro gender neutral and don't mind at all, though I also agree that there should be men's and women's loos, changing rooms and showers for those who do mind.

Also congrats guys, you seem to have frightened off everyone else who might disagree with you. That is the Mumsnet 'feminist' way.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/07/2017 23:45

Is it actually transphobia, or is it "person with adult male strength and possessing of adult male penis" in female safe spaces phobia?

I actually think that there would be a lot less what is termed transphobia around if the male-privileged autogynophile agenda had not somehow managed to trample its way all over the gender dysphoria rights debate.

SerfTerf · 26/07/2017 23:45

Thanks panda

MissBax · 26/07/2017 23:45

You'd be accused of transphobia for using the term women, which you find "super gross"?!

Can we stop the world please, I want to get off now!!!

AssassinatedBeauty · 26/07/2017 23:45

I find it unnerving that universities are now policing your beliefs. If you express a belief that is contrary to the current gender identity politics then you'll be disciplined?

FerretsAreFeminists · 26/07/2017 23:45

Also congrats guys, you seem to have frightened off everyone else who might disagree with you.

Welcome to our world.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/07/2017 23:46

Your enquiring about women's space because you are concerned about the encroachment of men (aka 'transwomen') into those spaces, Serf? Your name isn't subtle. I assumed that was a transphobia reference. And your constant Absolutely not a thread about trans at all this one posts.

I mean that sounded like you thought Serf was transphobic. Are you saying you don't think that?
