Parking wars - on my own drive !

I know the rules, diagram is attached. 😉

I'm on half days this week and have just got home to find a car in my driveway. As we are a corner house we have two driveways, big enough for one car each. Parking is really tight around here and permit only too. Opposite us is 8 terraced houses with no allocated parking, so quite often they either park in their garages or in the handful or visitor bays opposite my place but in front of theirs. My front drive is VERY clearly my driveway.

Cheeky Fucker Neighbour (CFN) runs a business from home which involves a lot of clients coming and going from her house throughout the day (pet groomer) and he employs two people to help.

I came home today to find a car in my drive which was not DHs. So I park down the side (pink section) of the house on the road where neighbours park their cars. I go and knock on several doors to find out who it belongs too, turns out it's one of the employees who is staying for a little while longer (P/T). "But I'll only be another hour, so I'll move it then." I reply "No, move it now please as I have to unload my car." Person refuses and I end up leaving telling them to move it within 30 minutes.

That was an hour ago and when I knock on the door there is no answer.

My next door neighbour has just told me that this car is on either my front drive or rear drive each morning ! When he questioned them about it, apparently CFN has said it's OK for them to park there and they have cleared it with us. No they bloody haven't!

Thing is this went on last year but after words it sooner stopped but obviously they are doing it again.

I'm sat here glaring out my front window waiting for the fucker to move his car then we will have words. I would block it in, but the road is only wide enough for one car so would block the road.

Brilliant Grin Cheeky Fucker indeed!

BenjaminLinus · 26/07/2017 16:43

Sod cones and fencing, get table and chairs set up, extension lead and a tele, takeaway delivered and refuse to move for the evening.

Lweji · 26/07/2017 16:43

Would it be really rude to read MN in restaurant??

Only if you don't read it to him.

LurkingHusband I like how you think.

ohfourfoxache · 26/07/2017 16:43

Good move with the bollard

But I really think you need to lean on their door bell; cause as much noise as possible

TheMaddHugger · 26/07/2017 16:43

dammit, it's 1.14 AM. here in Oz.

I can't go to bed now

SquareWord · 26/07/2017 16:44

Are you on a new housing estate? We are and are not allowed to run businesses from home if they involve visitors and extra traffic to the property.

BenjaminLinus · 26/07/2017 16:44

Do you have a friend with a motorbike that could come and visit and park their bike on your drive blocking the car in? Ideally one with a very loud alarm?

blankface · 26/07/2017 16:45

sorry, in a rush, not RTFT
As CFN is running a business from his home, do check he's paying business rates, won't you? they cost a lot more than ordinary Council Tax.

Oh wow that's amazing OP. You're the parking heroine Mumsnet deserves.

Barnes79 · 26/07/2017 16:45

I would first of all contact the Council. I'd assume planning permission would have been needed for change of use of the property, especially with increased traffic etc. I would also assume that their business has a Facebook page? I'd do a really bad review based on their rudeness, inconsiderate behaviour and unprofessionalism with perhaps a comment for future customers about the lack of parking.

I'd probably use my wheelie bins as a temporary blockade rather than pinching someone else's stuff to use... That and a strategically placed nail next to each tyre so when they moved the car they got punctures (although I hasten to add i'm not sure about the legality of the last suggestion so I'd do a quick Google - but it's your drive so I'd have thought you could put your belongings - the nails - wherever you want. I admit, I'm not sure I'd have the guts to do it though).

LazySusan11 · 26/07/2017 16:45

Hurrah another cheeky fucker thread! Have been looking for one of these to keep me entertained!

timis · 26/07/2017 16:45

"I will but a hammer through your car window if you don't move it now"

"You can't do that"

"Wanna bet"

That should do it.

LexieLulu · 26/07/2017 16:47

Call the none emergency police number?

OpalMoon · 26/07/2017 16:47

I'd be writing No Parking across the windows. With Sudocrem.

EvansOvalPies · 26/07/2017 16:47

I do love the blockade. Can you record the results and post on here? Or is that too much to ask? Every parking thread needs a follow-up You-Tube-type result.

Questioningeverything · 26/07/2017 16:48

Oh I luffffffs a good parking thread

As you were

IdentifiesAsYoda · 26/07/2017 16:48

Opal

Yes, or Metanium

TreasureInMyTummy · 26/07/2017 16:48

Following as can't believe the check of cfne

Woobeedoo · 26/07/2017 16:49

My Grandad once parked his car down a side street when he popped to the shops. He wasn't blocking anything or anyone, but clearly his car being there pissed someone off as when he returned he found his whole windscreen had been covered in lard. He managed to borrow a bucket of water and cleaning materials from a kindly shop owner but it took him absolutely ages to clean it all off.

Neutrogena · 26/07/2017 16:49

Just leave it - I'm sure they will move their car soon and won't park there again.
Have a NICE AND CIVILISED word with the neighbour about parking on your drives. Make it clear that no-one is to park there, but be gracious, calm and cordial.

Getting yourself so het up over a parking space is bonkers. It's unhealthy. It's cheeky, don't get me wrong, but you don;t have to add to the anger and rage in today's world.

ILoveMyMonkey · 26/07/2017 16:50

OMFG I can't believe how entitled cfne is to still not have move his car, you have the patience of a saint to have not gone back round there.

HerOtherHalf · 26/07/2017 16:50

Now you need to coat the various parts in something sticky - dog poo would be ideal, but golden syrup or treacle would work. Even toothpaste.

I'd go with bleach. He won't realise until well after he's dried his hands by wiping them on his trousers.

Collaborate · 26/07/2017 16:50

collaborate wind your neck in; prosecuted for 'theft' of tyre air. Lol.

OK. Go ahead and let out the air from a tyre whilst a police officer is watching. Go on. I dare you.

FFS I don't make the law. If you can't hack being told what it is that's not my problem.

Funnyface1 · 26/07/2017 16:51

I just can't believe he refused to move it! He deserves whatever he gets now.
