Longleat Center Parcs, taking £600 a night to be on a 24hr building site! Aaagghh

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 02:05

We are currently staying at Longleat centre parcs. Having saved for this for a year, it's costing an eye watering £600 a night for 4 nights. Total £2400.

What we weren't told was our villa was opposite a 24 hour construction site. Which, as I type is sounding like smashing bottles being thrown into a bottle bank crossed with several generators running.

I'm fuming, no sleep possible and we have 4 children to entertain tomorrow.

AIBU to have expected Center Parks not to have booked out our villa knowing this. Or at very least warned us.

Any advice? We've called customer services at 2am to be told that extra work was being carried out!

I'm not happy at all.

Can people stick to the point of the thread!! OP can choose to spend her money on what she likes. Unfortunately she is not getting what she paid for and a large chunk of her holiday has been ruined. Would be nice if everyone could stop having a dig about the relative value of the holiday (which sounds priceless to me if keeping 4 challenging kids and 2 adults happy is what they want). I doubt OP wants to hear that kind of criticism after almost no sleep!

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 10:11

I'm not going to give details of my actual holiday am I juanca but I have said what I am getting and when and that it wasn't the cheapest deal. Suffice to say, don't go into a travel agent, do the work yourself, book things separately and directly if necessary. Enough detail ?

JustDanceAddict · 25/07/2017 10:12

It's not true that construction workers can't work through the night. We had it as lived in an overground part of the tube and had many disturbed nights. We complained, nothing constructive happened, so we moved.

PearlyPinkNails · 25/07/2017 10:12

Kick up a MASSIVE fuss.

redjoker · 25/07/2017 10:13

Yes, CP is expensive. Yes there are cheaper places that are not CP. Right, now we have that sorted can we move on to the actual issue?

With that amount of work going on they shouldn't be renting out the lodges surrounding it. You should push for a full refund here.

Agreed. Let's move on. looking forward to hearing about your full refund OP!

JustDanceAddict · 25/07/2017 10:13

Re the holiday, that is different and I would expect to be compensated. Have been to CPs 3 x (never paid that much though!) and never had an issue with anything.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2017 10:18

Returned after several pages.

Where OP is staying is immaterial. One could have construction problems anywhere and the OP wanted and chose to stay in high standard accommodation in The UK at CenterParcs. Up to her.

ANYWHERE - expensive or cheap, should inform guests about construction work noise in advance.

Thanks for correcting spelling!

SandyDenny · 25/07/2017 10:19

I'd exepct the whole amount to be refunded, I don't suppose they'll be stopping the work for the rest of your nights.

Do you have the energy to get on social media if you don't get a satisfactory reply today?

It doesn't matter what it cost, it's totally unacceptable

WandaOff · 25/07/2017 10:20

I understand the appeal of predictability and we've been to CP many times because it suited DC.
Everyone who goes knows the cost and it's not a good choice if that's going to niggle you.

I also agree they are very good at customer service and I'm sure the OP will get this resolved.

As to travel abroad, I need flights from a local (Northern) airport in the day time, and a good 4/5* hotel or villa. It's not going to happen for £2500 for four adults however hard I google Grin.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/07/2017 10:20

I hope the OP gets more than "wine and chicks" !

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 10:21

Same wanda and it has happened. Must not derail thread though.

PinkHeart5911 · 25/07/2017 10:22

That is really rubbish OP!

I don't know why people are trying to derail the thread with "oh I found a 10 bedroom villa with pool in a private island with unicorns for less" I mean yes there are cheaper places but op can spend her money how she wishes and she booked centre parks.

Whatever you paid for this holiday nobody would be happy with the service op has received, it is just not good enough.

I'd want a refund for the entire holiday OP and I hope you get one

Kittychatcat · 25/07/2017 10:29

Op, I hope you get your accommodation sorted out and get a more restful night tonight.

To everyone quoting prices for holidays abroad - not everyone wants to go abroad on holiday. Some people can't or won't fly or sail, many don't like hot weather and have special needs or disabilities that simply can't be met in France, Spain, Greece or other places. (It's irrelevant to the OP but many places in Europe are nowhere near as clued up on wheelchair access as the UK)

Centre parcs is a brilliant place to go for someone with ASD because you can pre book activities and tell your dc exactly what they will be doing each day and not upset their routine. You can take their usual food, bedding etc with you to keep familiarity going from home.

NauticalDisaster · 25/07/2017 10:34

I quite like the description of the accommodation and that would be a great family holiday. I would be furious with the all night noise and hope you get your full refund, OP.

thereallochnessmonster · 25/07/2017 10:45

Monster pour wine, get online with dates and trawl. End of August always cheaper.

Hmm

No shit, Sherlock. MsHarry, our villa holiday is already booked.

I was wondering where you found these things (in the school holidays) as all the villas we have looked at, in France and Spain, are more expensive, never mind car hire and flights...

KimmySchmidt1 · 25/07/2017 10:51

wait until you see what they offer and then if its crap go to social media.

no point shooting your bolt and going on it too early, or you wont have that threat as a bargaining chip.

they are usually very good with their customer service.

Aroona24 · 25/07/2017 10:53

Yes I definatetly would be fuming. Your sleep is very important. I would fight my case in the first instance by insisting on them moving me and failing that fight for a refund. If you are someone who has struggled with mental health issues, for example, the lack of sleep can to you becoming unwell again and being off work. Its appalling in my opinion for them to charge so much and not provide you with value for money. Fight the good fight!

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 10:55

Oh silly me, you're right, I'm making it up.Off to pack.Grin

agedknees · 25/07/2017 11:12

Yanbu. We us d to live in an apartment near a rail track. Every bank hol they used to do overnight work on the track. Noisy drills, bright lights, etc. No sleep for 2-3 nights. We sold and moved elsewhere.

If it continues you should get either a full refund or a new holiday. Sleep is important.

MrsPringles · 25/07/2017 11:13

Kick up a fuss OP, get your money back

Slarti · 25/07/2017 11:14

There are a million other places to go both in the UK or abroad for the same price or much cheaper, but everyone flocks to Center Parcs?

Yeah, for what the OP paid you could have 6 months in Pontins... Confused

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 25/07/2017 11:15

But many people would not want to spend anytime in Pontins, that's why they pay more, to go somewhere else.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 25/07/2017 11:19

May as well start a thread saying
Why do people ........

Shop in Waitrose when you can buy food in Asda
Buy a Mercedes when you could buy a Skoda
Shop in Jigsaw when you can shop in Primark
Etc Etc Etc

It's so ridiculous!

MrsFigg · 25/07/2017 11:22

I'm really sorry to here this op. We are arriving next week, I'm wandering if I should call in advance as we are in a similar lodge..
Am watching this thread with interest, I would be fuming. I hope the management act on this better.
Would not be happy at all Angry

PearlyPinkNails · 25/07/2017 11:25

Don't justify your holiday choice OP
