Longleat Center Parcs, taking £600 a night to be on a 24hr building site! Aaagghh

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 02:05

We are currently staying at Longleat centre parcs. Having saved for this for a year, it's costing an eye watering £600 a night for 4 nights. Total £2400.

What we weren't told was our villa was opposite a 24 hour construction site. Which, as I type is sounding like smashing bottles being thrown into a bottle bank crossed with several generators running.

I'm fuming, no sleep possible and we have 4 children to entertain tomorrow.

AIBU to have expected Center Parks not to have booked out our villa knowing this. Or at very least warned us.

Any advice? We've called customer services at 2am to be told that extra work was being carried out!

I'm not happy at all.

I hope you get it sorted OP.

You need to ask for a refund for last night, plus a move away from the noise. If they can't move you right away you need to be given a huge refund, plus ear plugs for all.

AtHomeDadGlos · 25/07/2017 09:21

My family love Centre Parcs and we always stay at the Longlear one. Going next year for a family celebration. The cost is exorbitant (during school hols) but if the OP can afford it then fair play.

The building noise overnight is not on, and I would expect a reduced rate if there was building work going on during the day too, as that removes the option of nipping back for lunch/afternoon nap etc and enjoying your outside space.

In my experience CP are really good at resolving problems. One year we had an ivaision of ants which ate crawled all over a birthday cake. We got a meal voucher for £30 as compensation. Another time I was having a shower and the tray filled up. I pulled a tennis ball worth of human hair out of the plug hole. A bottle of wine and chicks arrived the next day.

I'd be asking for a refund for the first night, no more building work after 5pm and a refund of 10-20% or lunch meal vouchers for the whole family (£100 a day) to compensate for the building work during daylight hours. That would be fair.

.

thereallochnessmonster · 25/07/2017 09:22

I'm amazed they're allowed to work all night. Suerly it's affecting loads of villas, not just yours? And why on earth do it in the summer hols?

OP - Twitter, FB, take pics and times, and get on to customer service today. That's APPALLING.

Good luck!

fairgame84 · 25/07/2017 09:22

I hope you get it sorted OP.
I go to CP every year with DS who has ASD and we love it.
I've booked to go abroad next year and it's cost £1900 for just me and DS for 4* AI in Spain for 1 week so there is no way you could get abroad with 6 people for £2400 unless you were in a cheap and cheerful hotel.

thereallochnessmonster · 25/07/2017 09:22

A bottle of wine and chicks arrived the next day.

Shock

What did you do with the chicks??

AtHomeDadGlos · 25/07/2017 09:23

Longleat not longlear.
Chocs not chicks

JaneEyre70 · 25/07/2017 09:25

It's your holiday OP and up to you where you choose to go and what you pay. FGS. We've stayed in those villas and they are amazing, very worth the money in my book and I love that you get the daily maid service. It's the best accomodation on site, and for that reason, I'd expect to be warned in advance about possible noise issues and in August?? Construction work at Peak time, that's very bad management.

Take lots of evidence with photos/videos and be prepared for a very long battle, CPs don't like issuing refunds - we had a long battle to get some money back but got there in the end. I hope you all manage a good day on such little sleep.

Silvercatowner · 25/07/2017 09:25

*some people just like raining on parades/pissing on chips.

Exactly what you are doing silver.
Eurgh..... cheapie package holidays crammed in hotel rooms and stuck by a pool...... no thanks!*

I apologise that my irony passed you by!

Rossigigi · 25/07/2017 09:26

OP you don't have to justify your choice of holiday that is no ones business. Feel for you though what a nightmare. If the manager comes back with nothing then tweet and get the power of mumsnet to re tweet- you may find you have a better outcome!

Dowser · 25/07/2017 09:26

Overnight work is not acceptable on a holiday complex.
I agree it's difficult to get work done in a holiday complex that's open twelve months of the year but to work through the night while people are trying to sleep is just a big no no

I can remember everything closing down in Sherwood Forest at 10pm for that reason. That was 20 years ago

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 09:27

fairgame AI is always more expensive, is CP AI?

thereallochnessmonster · 25/07/2017 09:27

Just seen your update, OP - hope the Village Manager can sort it this mornig. Totally unacceptable. Flowers

thereallochnessmonster · 25/07/2017 09:28

Ms Harry - CP is self catering.

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 09:28

Shatnerswig, that's exactly what I said to the duty manager this morning.

We are too tired to access our day activities, tomorrow's weather looks poor which is why it was booked for today.

I've said I want a full refund and that a third of our stay has already been written off. That's assuming they can stop the noise, which seems very loud today.

OP posts:
MsHarry · 25/07/2017 09:29

Then can't be compared to AI in Spain.

ASDismynormality · 25/07/2017 09:29

Was the duty manager apologetic and understandi?

DirtyChaiLatte · 25/07/2017 09:29

I would post the video of the middle of the night noise on social media too to warn future holidaymakers of what to expect.

I'm sure they'll deal with your complaint in an appropriate and timely manner once they get a barrage of calls from future irate holidaymakers.

fairgame84 · 25/07/2017 09:31

harry no it isn't but when you're abroad with a child with ASD then AI makes life so much easier as there is an element of routine and predictability. Obviously I don't know the OP and she might be a self caterer but I'm just saying that holidays abroad are expensive if your going for the higher rated hotels that would be comparable to CP.

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 09:39

When I holidayed with my nephew with ASD we chose a private villa where we could provide the same routine as at home without a noisy dining room, lots of other people etc Price was comparable, weather far better!

Notso · 25/07/2017 09:39

How are people finding villas abroad in school holidays for 6 for £2,400 or less? and if they are does that include flights?

Anewcareerforme · 25/07/2017 09:39

"To the posters saying you could go abroad for that price, right now at the start of the busiest season you definitely couldn't.
We looked and the best we came up with for two adults and two dc was £4000 and that wasn't all inclusive."

Utter rubbish, out of interest I've just searched last minute.com for this weekend and theres loads fore around £2000 for 7 days. Not necessarily places Id choose to go too but frankly I would choose CP either.

Anewcareerforme · 25/07/2017 09:40

That included the flights and was for 4 adults. I didn't look at the details because I've had my holiday but it clearly is possible.

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 09:42

This year I have a villa that sleeps 6, 2 bathrooms, private pool, car hire for the week and flights for 4(adult prices) for £2500. This was not the cheapest price we found as this was 3 bedrooms and in an upmarket town.

KatyBerry · 25/07/2017 09:44

I bet that when the Daily Fail is needed to pick up a thread, they won't bother. Unless OP can throw in that she's paying for some step children as part of the package?!
24 hour construction is not permitted in residential areas, there are realy strict guidelines on when noisy works can take place and I'd be astonished if they didn't apply to this situation too - ask mr duty manager what permits they have to carry out 24 hour noisy works (if he doesn't come up with a full solution to your problem, set the council on him. that'll teach him)
