Longleat Center Parcs, taking £600 a night to be on a 24hr building site! Aaagghh

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 02:05

We are currently staying at Longleat centre parcs. Having saved for this for a year, it's costing an eye watering £600 a night for 4 nights. Total £2400.

What we weren't told was our villa was opposite a 24 hour construction site. Which, as I type is sounding like smashing bottles being thrown into a bottle bank crossed with several generators running.

I'm fuming, no sleep possible and we have 4 children to entertain tomorrow.

AIBU to have expected Center Parks not to have booked out our villa knowing this. Or at very least warned us.

Any advice? We've called customer services at 2am to be told that extra work was being carried out!

I'm not happy at all.

Wonder if the OP had any sleep?
I bet CP has cut off her wifi to stop her posting on MN!

Ijustwantaquietlife · 26/07/2017 08:44

No word from op so she probably had a good night's sleep, I know I would be venting on mn if I couldn't sleep. Hopefully it's better now

Mumblebeebee · 26/07/2017 09:34

It wasn't too disturbed last night. Work did start up again late evening and continued through the night, but the noise level was about equal to a portable bedroom fan going. I managed some sleep on and off.

Bang on 8am it started up full volume, I'm listening to sawing, banging and building noise.

Im going to concentrate on giving the children a good break. I've had some rest and don't feel as awful as I did yesterday.

I know lots of people cope with sleep deprivation, sadly I'm not one of them.

At least CP took action last night and we had complete peace from early evening just for a few hours. That was lovely.

Bloody awful.
Agree it's probably best to focus your energies on making sure your kids have a nice time.
Record all the noise etc. When you can. And take it up with them when home, resorting to twitter, trip advisor etc if you need to.
If all else fails contact the sunday papers money sections.

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 26/07/2017 09:50

Have they offered you any compensation though?

I'm glad you had a few hours peace. But that is still NOTHING compared to what you should be enjoying

Still can't find anything on their sodding website either

But glad you had a bit of rest Flowers

PhilippeFlop · 26/07/2017 09:54

I hope you get it sorted OP.

We stayed there last year and loved the tranquility of the place, I would be fuming it we had to put up with that level of noise with absolutly no warning.

I hope you can enjoy the rest of your holiday as much as possible Flowers

Were currently at Bluestone in Wales for the second year running. Smaller, cheaper, really nice.

Whenever I've looked at Bluestone it's never been that much cheaper than CP. In fact I've just compared a mid week break the first week of next August and Bluestone's cheapest accommodation is £100 more than CP.

Kilicat · 26/07/2017 12:25

Sounds like an experience we had at elveden when I was a kid - so maybe 20 years ago. Nice lake side chalet with building work going on all week. Even the main area had film crews in and they brought in loads of extra plants etc to make it look better for whatever they were filming. My dad complained and got us a free week the following year. They initially offered us £100 off our next visit but my dad complained again and got the free holiday. Not sure what he said though - he worked in customer complaints so knew how to complain well! Hope you get appropriate compensation.

hmcAsWas · 26/07/2017 13:23

What Slarti said having checked their website after reading this thread. Also not as many activities (again just looked, with an open mind as considering booking) - where is the target archery, field archery, crossbows, quad bikes etc?

sowhatusernameisnttaken · 26/07/2017 13:40

I'm always stunned at the price people will pay to go to centreparcs. They sound like miserable places to me yet people part with hundreds/thousands to stay there.

A1Sharon · 26/07/2017 14:28

The OP is staying in a 4 bedroom lodge, with hot tub, daily maid service, games den and more. . It is superior accommodation to the usual static caravan/apartment/whatever that people usually get on these sites. That is why it is so much more expensive. She has paid more for the extras, surely that isn't too hard for people to understand?!
If she paid £2400 for a weekend in a tiny caravan in the back of beyond fair enough. They charge it because people will pay that and they aren't running a charity but a business.
Anyway, it doesn't matter if she paid £20 or £2000, no one should have building works going on all night outside their house.

2014newme · 26/07/2017 15:03

Bluestone is not a patch on center parcs. It's like holidaying on a Barratt homes estate. Even the pool isn't great. Nice beaches in the area though.

mcdog · 26/07/2017 20:26

How has today been OP? Any further updates from management?

Libitina · 26/07/2017 21:01

Is the work still going on tonight?

hmcAsWas · 26/07/2017 21:04

Longleat (when not noisy!) is also quite lovely scenery with its Giant Redwoods

Mumblebeebee · 26/07/2017 23:07

At this point in time it's silent Grin

They were noisily working as normal today. I believe night works are happening tonight after late scuba sessions.

Day time continues to be noisy with grinding, constant beeping, sawing and general building noise.

Last night, every few hours were crashes and bangs which disturbed us, but we did get back to sleep. No way as bad as the first night.

It's not the tranquil woodland holiday we were sold, and only now are our stress levels starting to reduce. Centre Parcs are aware of this, and the negative impact on our family holiday.

We did have a meeting with Guest services management today to discuss our concerns. They explained to us they didn't think the night works were going to be that intrusive as it's all internal works now.

They were apologetic and are keeping an eye on the next few nights.

We will be meeting on Friday to discuss how the week has gone.

They have started drilling again Confused

Goodythreeshoes · 26/07/2017 23:45

Try and get a recording OP.
I hope you get some rest tonight.

SeetheseeyessogreenIcanstarefo · 26/07/2017 23:47

Op you thought they had stopped or reduced building noise the night before. I suspect it was nothing to do with guests and noise and just work schedule. I wonder if you going to guest services house and start ti drill and beep outside what they would say. Confused personally what they think or thought might happen is irrelevant. What's relevant is what is happening. It's awful op, but I don't understand why they are being ng so difficult over giving you a refund? A huge massive company, why can't they refund this stay totally and offer you another one for half price at least?

ZenNudist · 26/07/2017 23:53

We went on holiday this year and there was building work going on. We got a 50% refund. Doesnt make up for using up precious holiday time on crap.

I recorded all the disturbances. And took loads of pictures. Because of the refund i didnt use them. Fairs fair they did their best to sort it out and it probably wouldn't affect others so no need to warn them.

Demand full refund. Take it from there.

Nellysmagichat · 26/07/2017 23:54

They have started drilling again

WHAAAAATTTTT????? ShockShockShockShockShock

Absolute disgrace. Angry

DarthMaiden · 27/07/2017 00:06

I'm so sorry to hear that OP.

I really hope you get properly compensated.

I love CP, yes I know it's bloody expensive but it gives us a really nice break with the kids.

It's not our main holiday, but it's somewhere the kids have a lot of independence now they are early teens (they usually bring a friend) and do activities they want both together and separately.

DH and I then get some lovely time to ourselves that I spend in the spa during the day and then we all catch up a dinner and find out how everyone got on. Everyone is happy Grinwhich given how different DSD and DS are in terms of hobbies and interests is a really plus point.

We stayed in one of the treehouses last year in Sherwood. Honestly it was epic. Think we've actually spoiled it for ourselves now though as even the posh villas struggle to compete!!! Better start saving my pennies Blush

josCS · 27/07/2017 00:12

How awful for you all OP. I hope you manage to get some sleep and compensation! I am not sure if you have heard of Neilson holidays. If going abroad is an option for you they have kids clubs and you can book 1-2-1 nannys for children with special needs. Might be a holiday that consider for the future. I hope you can enjoy the rest of this holiday!

ThinkOfTheHorses · 27/07/2017 00:31

@Edsheeranalbumparty I don't know why everyone flocks to them but I can say that some of my best childhood memories are at CP and I barely remember the abroad holidays ....

TheLambShankRedemption · 27/07/2017 00:36

£600 a night for Butlins with trees? Saved all year for a 4 day holiday... in the UK?
