Do you tip at hairdressers? I didn't and now I feel guilty

I've just had my hair done, hair extensions at the hairdressers, altogether £410 and I didn't tip.
Should I of ?
I'm moving in the next few weeks and as its a council house I need to buy all new carpets as its basically a empty shell so i need every penny I can get really.
Do you tip?
And if so how much?

As for the OP in her local authority property, she doesn't have to justify it and it has nothing to do with her desire for hair extensions. A lot of snobbery and jealousy on here

Not at all. It's the simple fact that it would cost £700 to carpet her house. She said she didn't particularly want to pay that much in one go, she would have to save to get it carpeted then went on that she was reluctant to pay it and didn't see why she should.

Then doesn't think twice about spending more than half of the cost of the carpets on hair extensions but didn't tip a fiver as she could put that towards stuff that's essential for her house that she needs more.

She made it the issue by then telling everyone it's a council house with cheap rent to purposely wind people up and once they bit, she then plays the whole woe is me.

As previous posters have said, me included, sort your fucking priorities out. Personal grooming shouldn't be put above home essentials. Ever.

What @Brittbugs80 said! This has been a complete wind up thread, very carefully played by the OP. The "woe is me/anxiety" sympathy card played as a trump.

And I hope @Ashkey234 has declared her high earning partner is now lodging with her in her subsidised social housing. If she hasn't that's fraud and her £410 extensions and subsequent dichotomy about whether to tip or not will be the least of her worries....

I think some people are reading whatever they want to read here ...
When did I say why should I?
Personal grooming isn't above house essentials..you've just made that bit up to try and make me look like someone who is rather narcissistic.

@FanjoForTheMammaries I think the OP has done an equivalent amount of lording actually. HTH.

As I previously said my partners earnings don't affect our tenancy in the slightest ...as I had my tenancy before we were together.

Never read the Daily Fail in my life @FanjoForTheMammaries. Major assumption much?

As someone who was brought up in social housing and is now privately renting to free up social housing for those who need it more than me I think I know what I'm talking about.

No. I go to a really high end salon now and I pay what they ask. At Christmas though, I'll tip the junior.

PUGaLUGS · 22/07/2017 10:08

In the grand scheme of things tipping a tenner after paying £400+ is neither here or there tbh.

Perhaps you shouldn't have mentioned the carpets and perhaps you shouldn't have posted in AIBU.

Another classic example of

My DD was a shampoo girl on £3.20 an hour a quid tip really made her wages up

Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 10:09

In all fairness I can post wherever I want ..you've made the choice to comment and turn it into something it's not.
Why wouldn't I get defensive when people mock my anxiety and judge because I have painted nails

@FanjoForTheMammaries you are way off the mark here petal. You've no idea how much. Some people should learn that making assumptions about strangers on the internet makes them look slightly foolish. However, you're entitled to your opinion. As am I.

Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 10:11

I wouldn't of been able to afford private renting 5-6 years ago and I had no guaranty which you need on most places now.
If my partner didn't work I would be ridiculed and because my partner does work still the same reaction.
I know we are lucky to still have the tenancy but if we are entitled to it and it's very helpful to us why should we give it up and possibly put ourselves in hardship

I only got to page 6, but it's up to the OP how she allocates her money and I couldn't care less about her housing situation.

OP, I need to get a semi-permanent hair colour (permanent at the roots) and haircut every 8 weeks or so now and it's about £280 each time. Normally in restaurants, etc, I would tip 15%, but giving the hairdresser £42 tip (or even £28 if I tipped 10%) feels excessive. Plus, there are usually 3 people involved - one who colours the hair, one who washes it and one who cuts / blowdries it. Do you tip then all? I'm never sure what to do and it feels a bit awkward tbh. Usually, I just give £10 and get out Blush

Everything is declared, earnings payslips etc etc
We aren't doing anything wrong

OP posts:
Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 10:13

When I get my hair done just a normal cut blow dry if it was £34 I would say just keep change from £40.
It was because it was expensive why I wasn't sure what tipping is acurate

I don't tip my hairdresser. She lives in a nicer area than me, and has a snazzy little personalised mini whereas I have an ancient clunker. I'm a teacher, and she clearly earns more than me, so why would I tip her? She is a professional and has set the rates she wants to set.
