Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 16:51

I've just had my hair done, hair extensions at the hairdressers, altogether £410 and I didn't tip.
Should I of ?
I'm moving in the next few weeks and as its a council house I need to buy all new carpets as its basically a empty shell so i need every penny I can get really.
Do you tip?
And if so how much?

The fact that you have a council property is irrelevant to your question about whether you should have tipped. I think you are purposely trying to wind us up.

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 23:54

Yeah of course I have a Paul's boutique jacket ,I also drink my bottles of cider on the street corner ..you know like council tenants do Hmm

I'm not kicking you Op and your entitled to spend your money as you wish but spending over £400 on hair is quite a priveledge.

MSLehrerin · 21/07/2017 23:54

C'mon. How long did it take you to save up for the hair stuff? Two years? What about he the PB jacket?

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 23:54

I'm replying to idiots who have turned this thread into a debate on who they think should live where..

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 23:56

People will spend a lot more on a holiday than £400 on hair

AccrualIntentions · 21/07/2017 23:56

You were the one who brought your council property into it in the first place and made the thread about that.

MSLehrerin · 21/07/2017 23:57

This windup has made my night! I've got a crazy mental picture of @Ashkey234 now. Extensions, PB jacket, JC pink velour tracksuit, cider sitting outside her social housing accommodation. Is there a trampoline in the front garden and a Staffie too? Massive telly and no carpets as the owner has sporting extensions instead.

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 23:57

I think you will find I said I felt guilty leaving a tip after already giving them £410 of money when I was moving into a council property with no carpets and I knew that was a big spend coming up ..you've taken that to mean What you want it to mean ..

OP posts:
Allwashedup · 21/07/2017 23:58

Surely if you 'need every penny you can get' to be able to carpet your property then it would have been better to spend the £410 on that rather than hair extensions.

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 23:59

MELeherin- you seem like a very nasty individual...maybe you should take a long look in the mirror

Not when it was making me so unhappy no

400 pound on fucking hair . Jesus wept!

Oh, and you can afford it because subsidised housing means you can save more!

Maths lesson. 1000 pound (eg) monthly salary - 400 (subsidised) rent = 600.

1000 pound - 800 (private) rent = 200.

Takes longer to save in scenario B no matter how much you earn.

Yes, really.

MSLehrerin · 22/07/2017 00:02

@Ashkey234 I'm right aren't I though? Thanks for the feedback. You've still not told us how long it took you to save up for your extensions. Am waiting patiently.....six months? Am I anywhere close with my three guesses? And you've got typos in my username. See if you tap the @ key and type the first letter, you'll get all our user names come up. Every day's a school day, eh?

Allwashedup · 22/07/2017 00:03

Sounds like you need to get your priorities straight sweetie.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 22/07/2017 00:07

I'm clearly missing something. Why can't OP get hair extensions if she lives in social housing? These posts seem very judgemental to me. Can't council house tenants save up for something? And the references to OP's clothing seem rather offensive.

MN isn't normally like this, so I must be missing a back story.

AccrualIntentions · 22/07/2017 00:08

I couldn't give a shit what she spends her money on, I was just always led to believe social housing was for those who needed it rather than people with partners earning hefty salaries on the rigs.

PixieXox · 22/07/2017 00:14

@AccrualIntentions & that's the way it should be. The system is fucked though

HiJenny35 · 22/07/2017 00:20

If you didn't want people to be judgemental then you probably shouldn't have posted on here.
And actually I do think that you do have to be accountable at some level when living in a council property, surely on some level you appreciate the fact that you are receiving housing at a reduced rate while most other people are struggling to pay mortgages without any help and by putting it on here and spending £400 when most of us couldn't afford to do that is rather ignorant. You didn't need to mention any of that as it was irrelevant:
Yes if you are going to blow £400 on your hair you should a thrown in a tip, what difference does it make once you've got to that amount of money.

BreconBeBuggered · 22/07/2017 00:23

Aaaanyway. No, I don't tip my hairdresser, because he owns the salon, and going by what I pay for a straightforward cut & blow dry, his hourly rate of pay is pretty good.

HappydaysArehere · 22/07/2017 00:25

My hair cut costs £75 every 8 to 9 weeks. I used to give a tip but as the price has gone up annually by about a fiver a time I now do not give one. I feel my tip is the fact that I return regularly and there is a limit to what I can spend.

Ceto · 22/07/2017 00:27

I said I didn't want to pay more money than I needed too when I had something else that needed my money

But you spent £410 more than you needed to just so that you could damage your hair.

kirinm · 22/07/2017 00:36

My son's a hairdresser and gets paid fuck all. Minimum wage and only gets commission if he hits his target every week which is pretty high

I'd imagine the cost is because of a) buying the hair and b) spending hours on one customer when they could do 4/5 haircuts in the same time.

steff13 · 22/07/2017 04:23

No, I don't tip my hairdresser, because he owns the salon

It's customary NOT to tip the proprietor of an establishment.

SabineUndine · 22/07/2017 05:59

I tip about 10%. I can't imagine paying £400 for a new 'do' and not leaving a tip. Incredibly bad form.
