About number of beds...

bedformeplease · 21/07/2017 10:11

Am staying in converted barn holiday place with one other couple. 3 bedroom place.

Before we came we flipped a coin for the 'nicest' bedroom of the three. We won Wink.

Anyway we just arrived last night to find 'our' room isn't made up... only the other two rooms are. There are no towels on the bed etc either.

Aibu to think we should have access to the whole house that we paid for!?

You need to contact Home Away ASAP and flag this to them...
They surely won't let your deposit be withheld over this

honeysucklejasmine · 21/07/2017 23:17

Using the facilities you paid for in a reasonable way is no excuse to keep your deposit op. But do make sure Home away are on your side, not their vendors.

NorthumbrianGirl · 22/07/2017 00:30

Well done on sourcing your own sheet!

C0untDucku1a · 22/07/2017 00:39

This isncrazy!

viques · 22/07/2017 00:47

What a crazy situation. I have often booked cottages with an "extra room" and used it to invite additional friends down for a night or two.

Flamingosarepink · 22/07/2017 01:17

How ridiculous snd assuming of them.
What if you were not 2 couples but mums/dads with adult children or just friends. Why assume 4 people who have booked a 3 bed cottage only want 2 beds. It could be many different group dynamics/set ups than just 2 couples.
Ffs. Bloody stupid and shit customer service. At the v v v least leave the crappest room un-made up if anything.

Oblomov17 · 22/07/2017 07:44

Please can we have a link, so we know roughly where this place is. I'm sure poor OP wouldn't want anyone else subjected to this nonsense!!

RebootYourEngine · 22/07/2017 08:47

An advert for HomeAway has just been on the tv and it says 'book the whole house'

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 22/07/2017 09:04

What ridiculous and bizarre behaviour! Some years ago I booked a two bedroom cottage for a long weekend away with a friend. When we arrived only one was made up, so we rang the owner who was round within the hour with extra bedding. He had assumed we were a couple, and was very, very apologetic - he came back early evening with a bottle of wine for us!

AtHomeDadGlos · 22/07/2017 09:10

It says 'book' not 'use'. The OP has booked the whole house (there isn't a random extra person using the room) it's that she's not allowed to use the whole house. Which is still ridiculous. I'm just pointing out the semantics of it, as she can't really complain based on their strap line.

LIZS · 22/07/2017 09:21

If you book a whole house suitable for a party of say 6 , you should have the flexibility as to how you occupy it. Unoccupancy isn't anything to do with owner unless you were offered a discount for it. Were you ever asked about which rooms/beds you wanted set up? Surely it would be more usual to prepare all? Bet you paid the same deposit and cleaning fees as a fully occupying group too. Hmm

BillBrysonsBeard · 22/07/2017 10:38

Absolute madness. I don't get it at all. Siblings, cousins, friends are always going away together, surely couples are only a part of the customer base. Madness!

Smallangryplanet · 22/07/2017 11:51

Good for you for getting a king-size sheet. Cheeky fuckers.

cansu · 22/07/2017 12:10

Take lots of photos before leaving dated so they cant try anything on with your deposit. They are totally in the wrong and are handling it all terribly. Correct and easiest response would obviously have been to send over sheets and apologise. The cheek of telling you not to use bathroom is breathtaking.

Motoko · 22/07/2017 13:43

You need to contact HomeAway to let them know what's happening. Tell them the owners are being difficult.

Lucisky · 22/07/2017 13:57

Motoka - having read the horrific reviews on trust pilot, I don't think this company will give a flying fig!

Birdshitbridgegotme · 22/07/2017 14:04

Please leave them a turd in the ensuite
bathroom just so they know you DID USE IT!

Ceto · 22/07/2017 14:07

Tempting to put a question on the FB page along the lines of "We're a party of four. If we book a house with three bedrooms, will we be allowed to use all three?"

justilou · 22/07/2017 14:21

Omg! That's horrible customer service!!!

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 22/07/2017 14:28

From reading the FB page, you need to contact Home and Away and arrange your refund with them. They don't release your payment to the home owner until at least 30 days after the holiday, so they're the ones with the power to do it.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 22/07/2017 14:32

Don't leave a turd in the en suite, you don't want to give them an excuse to withhold your deposit.
Just use most of the toilet roll to make it clear that you have used it

JiggyTuff · 22/07/2017 14:42

I've booked lots of time via HomeAway and never had this happen. I stayed in a 4 bedroom house earlier this year which slept 8 and there were only 4 of us. All the beds were made up and we each had our own room which is why we booked a 4 bedroom house!

Motoko · 22/07/2017 14:44

Lucisky I know, but if OP wants to take it further, she can show she tried both avenues to get it rectified.

bedformeplease · 22/07/2017 16:02

Hi ladies - thanks again everyone for the supportive words. We have decided to just use the room including the en suite! Turns out upon checking we didn't actually pay a deposit! Which seems very odd (we had on the other place we booked though HA so I must have been thinking of thing). So at least we don't have to worry about them taking some from that. I will however be raising the misrepresentation and other issues directly with HA too!

So did they not get back to you, OP? Did you ask them to provide bedding and they just ignored it so you had to source your own?
