About number of beds...

bedformeplease · 21/07/2017 10:11

Am staying in converted barn holiday place with one other couple. 3 bedroom place.

Before we came we flipped a coin for the 'nicest' bedroom of the three. We won Wink.

Anyway we just arrived last night to find 'our' room isn't made up... only the other two rooms are. There are no towels on the bed etc either.

Aibu to think we should have access to the whole house that we paid for!?

OMG!!

My in-laws once booked somewhere with more rooms than they needed and got a discount on the understanding that they only used one room - no problem.

But, if you've paid the full price, then you get to use the whole place and WTH expecting you all to use the one bathroom when there is another one lying empty - tight bastards!!

DoneInn · 21/07/2017 16:41

Judging by the comments on the FB page HomeAway has lots of dissatisfied customers.

rightwhine · 21/07/2017 16:44

Do they realise how big this this site is and the damage this could do to their business. If I were them I"d rectify this pronto. We need to know the op has been successful or else we'll all be remembering that name

3 rooms, 4 people, what if one of the 'couples' were siblings? Shock

WaaWaaWaaa · 21/07/2017 16:50

I'm sorry but I'd be taking a MASSIVE dump in the en-suite...

but I'm childish AND petty!

OlennasWimple · 21/07/2017 16:52

Just phone the booking company direct and complain to them now

Changebagsandgladrags · 21/07/2017 16:53

Come on, let's let them know we're on the case:

honeysucklejasmine · 21/07/2017 16:57

Has OP actually confirmed it's a Home away property? Thought she just said it wasn't AirBnB.

honeysucklejasmine · 21/07/2017 16:58

Nevermind me, can't read Blush

Changebagsandgladrags · 21/07/2017 17:00

No it's not Airbnb (though all the ones of those I've used have been great!) it is booked through a reputable company - Home Away.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 21/07/2017 17:01

According to the last 20 second or so of for HomeAway their standard practice is that you book the whole house, not two out of three bedrooms.

I suggest you contact the corporate office, confirm this is their standard practice and ram the response up your home owner's electronic butt.

Witsender · 21/07/2017 17:05

I would find a way of using that room, whether by getting a new sheet tomorrow or making a smaller one fit.

And use the en suite, what can they do about it?

As well as bad reviews of course.

brasty · 21/07/2017 17:07

If we go away with another couple we always try and book a place with 2 bathrooms. Who wants to share a bathroom with another couple?

ememem84 · 21/07/2017 17:09

Absolutely ridiculous.

eddielizzard · 21/07/2017 17:09

no way that is standard practice!!!!! you book the house, you expect to be able to use it! wtf do they think they are deciding what bedroom you want?!? bloody cheek.

Oldraver · 21/07/2017 17:09

Presumably you booked this cottage as it had two bathrooms, but are being told not to use one ?

On what grounds do they get away with something so odd

RandomMess · 21/07/2017 17:11

I would have just said we need the use of all 3 beds hence booking a 3 bed place!!!! I would have said that we weren't 2 couples

clairethewitch70 · 21/07/2017 17:13

This would drive me nuts - If we booked for 4 people, my 2 adult DS's would not want to share a bed. We would expect all 3 bedrooms that were paid for. This is really odd, not standard practice I would have thought. Don't let them get away with it, use the ensuite.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 21/07/2017 17:16

When DH and I book holiday apartments, we always book a 2 bed because of my insomnia.
Means I can bugger off to other bedroom and read

NatalieRushman · 21/07/2017 17:17

That is completely unreasonable. Presumably you're paying the same between 3 couples as 3 couples would? We once booked a hotel room that slept 7 for only 4 of us. That didn't mean they closed off half the rooms!

WyfOfBathe · 21/07/2017 17:20

I went away with my parents and sister when I was in my early 20s, and only 2 out of 3 bedrooms were made up, but there were sheets for the third room and the host offered to make up the beds when she saw our family.

I would point out to them that you've posted on Mumsnet and will post on HomeAway and any review sites they're listed on.

mygorgeousmilo · 21/07/2017 17:22

Tell me this is in the Cotswolds?! Sounds eerily similar - even down to the twatty response from the owner with all the passive aggressive kisses!

Somerville · 21/07/2017 17:26

I wouldn't want to spend my holiday making complaints and chasing all that up. Unless the rooms are physically locked up then just use them.

Are you too far a drive to nip round to a supermarket and buy a kingsize sheet? Or order one on Amazon Prime. Move the pillows and up from the queen bed.

And I would take great pride in using the banned bathroom. Y'know those Bath salts that have bits of lavender in? They leave the bath tub very obviously used. Wink

They won't have a leg to stand on in complaining after the fact.

Did the OP agree to this thread being linked to a company website? IMO it's not very fair if she didn't.
