About number of beds...

bedformeplease · 21/07/2017 10:11

Am staying in converted barn holiday place with one other couple. 3 bedroom place.

Before we came we flipped a coin for the 'nicest' bedroom of the three. We won Wink.

Anyway we just arrived last night to find 'our' room isn't made up... only the other two rooms are. There are no towels on the bed etc either.

Aibu to think we should have access to the whole house that we paid for!?

They're having a laugh - you paid for a cottage, you should have full use of the cottage. Let us know the response - hopefully it will be something along the lines of, "bed linen and towels will be there by 7pm"!!

DoomGloomAndKaboom · 21/07/2017 16:00

I would be stripping the double and making the best of using the bedding from there on the kingsize. Surely they must have spare sheets in the house somewhere?

And fuck them telling you not to use the en suite! What next - 'please only use 2/3 of the cutlery and plates - also please only use four seats on the sofa/chairs and under no circumstances must you close the curtains more than 2/3rds of the way across because we don't want the full wear and tear when there's only four of you in the house.'

I imagine your review on trip advisor is going to be fairly harsh.

HolidayTimeAgain · 21/07/2017 16:01

That is ridiculous!!! I've never come across this and have rented villas / houses all over the place for years. I would be livid - I would be expecting full use of all bedrooms and bathrooms as listed. Complain to Home Away and insist the owner provides the missing bedding and towels.

BlondeGinger · 21/07/2017 16:04

I'm intrigued to know what they'd have done if you'd have gone as a family - mum, dad and two adult kids say girl and boy aged 18 and 20?
Because when booking, all you'd have had to put is four adults, not ages and relationships to each other. So would they expect an adult brother and sister to sleep in a double bed together?!

requestingsunshine · 21/07/2017 16:04

They are seriously having a laught aren't they? You booked for a whole house not a bit of it. And to ask you not to use the ensuite. Paste a link to them here so we can all NEVER book that house and also so we can all bombard them with emails until they arrive to make the bed up for you. Thats just beyond rude!

Rafflesway · 21/07/2017 16:08

Well after 35 years working in the travel industry I really thought I had heard it all.

Obviously not!

The rudeness of this owner is outrageous and to say I would be livid in your shoes OP is a MAJOR understatement.

Standard practise in the industry???? I can guarantee it definitely IS NOT!! 👿👿👿

BestIsWest · 21/07/2017 16:10

Yep, we regularly book cottages with DD (24) and DS (19) so need 3 bedrooms and have never encountered this.

In fact have booked a 5 bedroom one for next month or 4 of us. I'm already fantasising about having a king size to myself.

WaaWaaWaaa · 21/07/2017 16:10

yes can you make sure you only use three out of four sheets of the loo roll please! LOL

... not placemarking oh no!

MissBeehiving · 21/07/2017 16:15

We have 3 holidays lets and that is outrageous!

cjt110 · 21/07/2017 16:17

I think they deserve a Biscuit

duxb · 21/07/2017 16:17

Definitely use the en suite. You've paid for it.

steppemum · 21/07/2017 16:19

I am amazed.
Even if you are 2 couples, you may easily need the third room. In fact, the owner should assume you would use three rooms.

One of my friends never shares a bedroom with her husband, as one of them snores (it might be her Grin)

But the oddest thing about this is that the largest room and the ensuite are out of bounds. As 2 couples, in a cottage with 2 bathrooms, of course you would have a bathroom each!

steppemum · 21/07/2017 16:23

we used to let holiday houses in France. We didn't make up the beds, as the house had a lot of beds, to allow for many combinations (so one attic room had 4 singles, great for all kids sharing, or could be used by a couple/2 single adults etc)

We left a set of clean sheets on each bed and asked people to make up the ones they used. That way we didn't end up washing sheets that hadn't been slept in. but if every set was used, well, they paid for the house! The cost of the house is based on number of rooms and people, so in the French house, if it sleeps, 12, the price is based on 12. You may use it with 5, or 8, or 12, or even 12 plus a baby, but you have paid for a 12 bed house!

RebootYourEngine · 21/07/2017 16:23

I bet it wasnt a cheap rental either.

I would be putting a truthful review online. Are you sure the others are real reviews.

maddening · 21/07/2017 16:24

I would say it is 4 people not 2 couples and you need the 3rd bedroom that you have paid 4.

CottonSock · 21/07/2017 16:26

I'd be fuming. Ridiculous

peekyboo · 21/07/2017 16:27

The reviews could be by the owners and friends.
I remember staying in a b&b run by an eccentric couple who had a knack for making guests feel uncomfortable. At the end they asked us to sign their guest book and almost every entry in it was a glowing review, praising them as hosts and written in almost identical handwriting with a few tweaks. They then stood over us while we wrote in It, so no chance to warn future guests.

EyeDrops · 21/07/2017 16:28

We've also regularly booked 3-bed cottages just for ourselves and sometimes had friends stay a few days, sometimes not - I've never come across one or more rooms being unavailable. Sounds absolutely ridiculous! Definitely take it further if they don't sort it out.

chicaguapa · 21/07/2017 16:29

Do you have a king size bed at home? If so, I'd be tempted to buy a king size sheet I could use at home too and move the pillows and duvet upstairs.

Binkybix · 21/07/2017 16:29

Oooh. I'm 😡 on your behalf. Hope you get it sorted!

Silvercatowner · 21/07/2017 16:32

If you'd wanted a 2 bedroom cottage presumably you would have booked a 2 bedroom cottage. I agree with previous poster - buy a kingsized sheet and use the bedroom.

babybubblescomingsoon · 21/07/2017 16:32

Biscuit for them. Someone has posted this link onto the Home Away Facebook page, I may have added an angry comment too Blush

peekyboo · 21/07/2017 16:38

Will the thread be taken down if HomeAway complain?

Goodasgoldilox · 21/07/2017 16:38

The sheets etc. might be tucked away somewhere in the room. I'd certainly check!

rightwhine · 21/07/2017 16:39

No way is this standard practice. Say that due to snoring you don't share rooms and that is why you specifically booked a three bedroom place and it needs to be as described. Look up contract law.

The key word is reasonable and a reasonable person would assume that somewhere advertised as a three bedroom with an ensuite, would indeed be a three bedroom with ensuite.
You would have a case regarding the ensuite by itself regardless of the number of bedrooms.
