About number of beds...

bedformeplease · 21/07/2017 10:11

Am staying in converted barn holiday place with one other couple. 3 bedroom place.

Before we came we flipped a coin for the 'nicest' bedroom of the three. We won Wink.

Anyway we just arrived last night to find 'our' room isn't made up... only the other two rooms are. There are no towels on the bed etc either.

Aibu to think we should have access to the whole house that we paid for!?

Their response is so weird, have you paid for the entire use of the place?

LemonBreeland · 21/07/2017 11:25

I would not be at all happy with that. Their response is incredibly rude. I get they are trying to save themselves some work, but it is ridiculous. And as you say, they don't know you are two couples. Four people could reasonably book a 3 bed place for number of reasons.

KoalaDownUnder · 21/07/2017 11:28

That is utterly crap. Unacceptable.

Ginslinger · 21/07/2017 11:31

I would use everything all the time all day and all night. I often book places that have more rooms than necessary because family not always sure what they want to do. I very rarely complain about things but I'd complain about this until I was blue in the face. You've paid for the whole place not per person.

JaneEyre70 · 21/07/2017 11:32

That's really weird, I've never stayed in a cottage and not had all the beds made up. They can't assume your sleeping arrangements, and presuming you paid for the cottage and not per guest, I'd be complaining to the website direct that you booked through.

WatchingFromTheWings · 21/07/2017 11:34

I'd message them back "we paid for a 3 bed place so expect use of a 3 bed place. Please supply bedding for the unmade bed asap as we will be using that bed this evening."

MetalMidget · 21/07/2017 11:38

Wow, that's shocking. We've stayed in loads of self catering places with surplus rooms, and they've always all been made up! Telling you not to use the ensuite is particularly shocking - if they're charging a flat rate for the cottage, then you should have access to everything. If they want to cut rooms off, they should offer a discount.

MrsOverTheRoad · 21/07/2017 11:39

The cheek! "don't use the ensuite" indeed!!

Complain! Insist you need more sheets and will be using the ensuite.

If it's out of order then you want a partial refund! They can't advertise one thing and then present another!

Merrylegs · 21/07/2017 11:40

We are staying somewhere next week (not a barn so not the same place!) We will technically under occupy by one room. But we'll want to use all the rooms due to different configurations of family. I clocked that the description says rooms will be closed off if unoccupied so I have preempted this by emailing and asking for all rooms to be open. We're renting a house, not rooms in a hotel, and paying a lot for it. YANBU. They are being v uncool.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 21/07/2017 11:43

This is completely unacceptable. They are making assumptions about your sleeping arrangements, which could be completely inaccurate (& is none of their business!). To close off the nicest room adds insult to injury.

Don't forget a Trip Advisor review.

AngelaTwerkel · 21/07/2017 11:45

Wow, really cheeky! I'd be really annoyed, too.

I'd probably say you don't want to share a bed with your brother, as another poster suggested - just to push the point! But really, you shouldn't have to - you paid for the whole cottage. If you want to sleep a night in each bed you're perfectly entitled to.

Laura1206 · 21/07/2017 11:46

How rude! Lazy people! I'd be mad if it happened to me. I hope you get a discount. Never heard of this happening before.

EvelynWardrobe · 21/07/2017 11:46

Championship level dick move. Holiday cottages cost a fortune!

Unbelievable! My partner and I no longer share a room if we can help it, so if we rent a cottage it has to be four 4 people, I.e. 2 bedrooms. We would be horrified if only one bed was made up. Is this through a reputable cottage renting company, or a private rent? The cheek of telling you not to use the en suite. Do keep us updated.

Additionally, how do they not know whether you have invited another couple to join you for a few days, seeing you have a 'spare' bedroom?

StinkPickle · 21/07/2017 12:00

I have NEVER come across this. I would reply and say that you booked (and PAID!!) for a 3 bed place because you need 3 bedrooms.

Say it's a couple, and 2 single friends. Not that you should have to justify but it's outrageous!!

You booked a 3 bed place!

MyfatheristheKing · 21/07/2017 12:02

How cheeky, I hope they come round and get it sorted.

numbmum83 · 21/07/2017 12:03

How weird ! So you've obviously spent a fortune on a letting and you can only use one level of it ? I would definitely give it a bad review and make others aware . Are they scared of a bit of cleaning and washing when they've pocketed your money .

LexieLulu · 21/07/2017 12:08

I'd respond saying you're not four couples. You're one couple and two friend who don't wish to share

meercat23 · 21/07/2017 12:16

We often choose to stay in a larger property than we need because of location, facilities etc. We have never arrived to find that the choice of rooms has been made for us in this way. In one very large property we were asked to close off any rooms we were not planning to use so that it was clear that bedding and towels had not been used and didn't need to be changed but it was our choice which to use, or for that matter to use them all in turn! We had paid for the whole property after all.

Ceto · 21/07/2017 12:16

Even if they did think you would only want to use two rooms, why assume you want to be on the same floor? Do they think you're swingers?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/07/2017 12:16

Happened to my folks once (well before the internet or airB&B). They were furious. To add insult to injury the alarm was set for 5am in the unused room and the owners refused to fix it even though it woke them each morning.

LadyLapsang · 21/07/2017 12:18

Unless the rate for 6 people is more, then they should expect the whole property to be used. Not all couples share a room and some people prefer their own bathroom. I have seen ads for large houses where there is a clear discount for under-occupancy, not using all bedrooms, and of course that is fair.
