About number of beds...

bedformeplease · 21/07/2017 10:11

Am staying in converted barn holiday place with one other couple. 3 bedroom place.

Before we came we flipped a coin for the 'nicest' bedroom of the three. We won Wink.

Anyway we just arrived last night to find 'our' room isn't made up... only the other two rooms are. There are no towels on the bed etc either.

Aibu to think we should have access to the whole house that we paid for!?

That is NOT standard practice at all. Your reasons for booking a 3-bed property are none of their business. Even if there was only one person staying, they'd be entitled to sleep in a different bed every night, and certainly use all the bathrooms.

Tell them you'll be leaving 1* reviews all over the internet unless they sort this out pronto.

chitofftheshovel · 21/07/2017 14:43

How long are you staying for? If a week then I would push for it, if only another night I'd drop it for now and do some sternly worded e mails from home.

Their customer service is appalling!

bridgetreilly · 21/07/2017 14:47

Oh, also, HomeAway? Whose advertising slogan is 'Book the whole house...'?

Redsippycup · 21/07/2017 14:47

Bloody hell! That's not on at all! I would be replying telling them you need all 3 bedrooms - not just 2.

I have friends who rent a holiday cottage on a similar site and there are quite strict rules on what they have to do. Complain to Home Away too.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/07/2017 14:50

Wow. Appalling response from them. They should be doing everything possible to make your stay a comfortable and happy one.

Shame them on social media; they deserve to have everyone know what they're like.

MrsOverTheRoad · 21/07/2017 14:52

Oh I'd be taking that a LOT further.

Send a message back

"We will be taking this further as this cottage has been misrepresented"

AtHomeDadGlos · 21/07/2017 15:08

Dear HomeAway,

Unfortunately I have very heavy periods, and due to being up and down in the night will need to sleep in the third bedroom. I booked the accommodation knowing that I would require an en suite bathroom for my needs. Should you wish for the mattress and duvet to be in good condition for the next person staying please provide me with appropriate bedding for the king sized bed. I would hate to bleed all over it.

Clearly, by refusing to provide bedding, I shall also refuse to be held liable for any damage caused to said bed and duvet.

I imagine I'll be going to bed around 8pm, so if the bed hasn't been made up by this time I'll assume I'm ok to go ahead as mentioned above.

Kind regards

Bedformeplease

Questioningeverything · 21/07/2017 15:09

Oh this is just appalling customer service. Their handling is horrendous.

I'd be very firmly telling them that they need to put this right or your review will very accurately describe your experience and can be backed up with their emails. I'd not let this lie.

I'd reply that you explicitly booked this cottage precisely because it has an en-suite as well as a main bathroom as you do not wish to share a bathroom with others.

That's why you went for this cottage over other, cheaper, alternatives.

Had the owners explained beforehand that the bedroom and en-suite are not to be used then you certainly would not have booked it.

But accepting the booking and the payment and then unilaterally changing the terms of the contract afterwards (without even informing you) is just not on.

CantChoose · 21/07/2017 15:18

That is definitely not standard practice. DH and I book holiday cottages at least twice a year for the two of us and very often book larger size ones, I've never had a room be unmade.

KoalaDownUnder · 21/07/2017 15:21

"Dear Crappy Cottage Owners: you keep using that phrase 'standard practice'. I do not think it means what you think it means".

frieda909 · 21/07/2017 15:26

A PP makes a good point, there are various medical reasons why someone might need an en suite bathroom at night. I'd be furious to get that email saying 'please avoid using the en suite'! How can they possibly justify that?

Cuckingfunt1981 · 21/07/2017 15:30

At home that's a bit much ?? Needing an extra room cos she is on her period ahah heard it all now

chocatoo · 21/07/2017 15:34

That's ridiculous! At worst go and buy a cheap sheet from the supermarket.

iamdivergent · 21/07/2017 15:36

I would definitely email back. If I rented a 3 bed I would expect the 3 bed!

frieda909 · 21/07/2017 15:36

"Dear Cheeky Homeowner,

I refuse to believe that it is 'standard practice' in your industry to advertise a property with a kind-sized bed and an en-suite bathroom, only to deny your guests the use of either based on your own assumptions about their sleeping arrangements and preferences.

We have paid the full cost for a three-bedroom property with two bathrooms, and we therefore expect either to be able to use the full property, or to receive a partial refund in light of your decision to restrict our access to a significant portion of the property."

flickerty · 21/07/2017 15:36

Absolutely ludicrous!

And how dare they tell you not to use the ensuite 😡😡😡

EggysMom · 21/07/2017 15:39

We often go on holiday as a booking of 4 needing 3 bedrooms - myself & DH; our autistic son; BIL who comes on holiday with us too (he's a good child wrangler!)

I thought the selling point of firms like HomeAway was "book the whole house" (as opposed to AirBnB where you just book a room). By denying you this room, you haven't booked the whole house.

livefornaps · 21/07/2017 15:42

Downright lazy cheeky fuckers!!!

I am massively fucked off for ypu.

Shame shame shame is the answer.

Plz keep us updated! We need to know !!!!

peachgreen · 21/07/2017 15:45

I'm outraged on your behalf!

TyrionLannisterforKing · 21/07/2017 15:48

Make that the sex room. Use lots of lube.
Leave a rotting fruit tucked between the matress and the bed. In fact, eat there.
Designate the en-suite as the shitting room.

Vindictive? Yes.

Oblomov17 · 21/07/2017 15:54

OMG
This is really poor.

Didiusfalco · 21/07/2017 15:54

Yes link to them. Then leave a crap trip advisor review - sounds like they deserve it.

flickerty · 21/07/2017 15:58

Yes, what Tyrion said.
