To hate how fat I am

fatbernie · 16/07/2017 15:57

I know all I have to do is stop eating so much (so please don't give me diet advice. I've heard it a million times before).

It irritates me so much that no matter what diet I try I can't stick to. I lose a stone and then it's all back on. I even went a full 6 months on slimming world but eventually got bored.

It's not savoury food I crave. I make all my meals fresh. It's just I eat far too big portions and far too much sweet food. Today I've eaten a magnum, a mr kipling apple pie and an ice cream cone. My breakfast was scrambled egg on wholemeal toast and lunch was baked sweet potato with veg and chicken so my main meals are healthy but I eat so so much snacks it's unbelievable.

I can't stay at anyone's house because I feel like I'm dying of starvation when eating 'normal' amounts of food.

I walk a lot and enjoy walking. I walk two miles a day at least so that's one positive but I cannot stop using food as enjoyment.

I just eat when I'm bored. I would love to be slim but I never will be. I never have been since the age of 8 and I'd not even know how to eat a normal diet as I'd be starving!

Anyone else the same? I know it's acommon problem.

I'm only 28. I should not be so fat. I have a pretty face, I could be gorgeous. It's such a shame.

'I'm shocked that so many think that people wearing size 14 are fat. No bloody way. I'm 5ft6, size 14 and am not fat. You're not fat OP. You eat way more than I do and you're only the size you are, you're lucky. I eat much less than you, walk every day and struggle to stay this size. Just goes to show how differently all of our bodies work.' yes you are theres no way you dont have 'excess fat and those measurements.

Italiangreyhound · 17/07/2017 01:56

fatbernie I am loads fatter than you! I hope that makes you feel better. You sound very normal. You are bored so you eat, you are addicted to sugar, so you eat it. All normal. The only real difference for me is I am older than you, fatter than you (although I rarely use the word 'fat' as I don't like to use it. I would use the word heavier.)

I tend to go for savory stuff rather than sweet.

I've tried EVERYTHING. I am currently having counselling.

You can and will find an answer if you keep looking.

mrbob · 17/07/2017 03:54

Oh I missed the size 14 bit. If I was size 14 I would carry on doing exactly what I was doing ;)

MirabelleTree · 17/07/2017 05:51

I was expecting you to substantially bigger than that from your OP! It can be hard to be at home so hopefully your new job will help with the boredom. I've lost about 5 stone so far since last November and what is working for me is setting myself an exercise Challenge. I've never run in my life and never wanted to but decided I want to do the race for life next year so started C25K and try do about 10-12k steps a day. I still get sugar cravings and do eat it but food is starting finally to be more about health, though it is a gradual process. I find the exercise does help suppress my appetite a bit overall.

I'm still clinically obese, 5ft 6 and can now get into 14 bottoms, though my top is 18 as large chest.

stevie69 · 17/07/2017 06:07

Purple I did not insult anyone

I'm definitely a 'Skinny Minnie'. I don't think that Ragdoll intended to insult anyone at all. You know what? It's really hard addressing an audience of so many people and trying to find a set of words that sit easily with everyone. Doing so can also have a tendency to make our posts rather 'vanilla'.

Thew people on here are great; in the main. If something causes me to prickle a bit, I stop and ask myself: 'Was the REALLY intended to upset ME?' The answer is invariably 'no'. So I move on—as I hope others would do to me if I were to write something that caused eyes to widen. Be assured, however, it would never be intended to offend.

S xx

I really do sympathise - compulsive overeater here.
I'm a sucker for dessert too (and huge greasy main meals as well- I'm just bloody greedy frankly)
I know you said you don't want advice - fair enough - but can I offer a suggestion just on the off chance?
Buy yourself a really really pretty dessert bowl and whatever our favourite posh fruit happens to be. When you feel the urge to have one of your "downfall" items, chop up the fruit nicely and present it in your lovely new bowl (topped with a mint leaf if you're feeling extra fancy) and sit down and make a little "occasion" of it for yourself
The aim is that this will address the physical sugar craving as well as the psychological craving for a treat
Then again, everyone is different , and you did say you weren't after advice so feel free to tell me to shove it grin

I like that. It sounds like a really good plan. I will keep that right at the forefront of my mind for the weeks when I'm trying to hit my 'fighting' weight, so to speak. Thank you Smile

AceholeRimmer · 17/07/2017 06:41

Gosh OP, I thought you were 20 stone or something! You are actually very near my target weight as a fellow 5ft 7er which I am extremely slim at (10st 10lbs) But yes all body shapes are different.. you just seem far too hard on yourself for the weight you are.

sparklefarts · 17/07/2017 07:13

Seriously op? You're 11 stone something? Seriously.
Well my earlier post is well and truly null and void

Ecureuil · 17/07/2017 07:30

No, not having it. Size 14 is not overweight at 5ft6

What are you not having?! I'm 5ft 6, a size 12 in most places a 10 in others. My BMI is just under 25. If I was a size 14 I'd be overweight, that's just fact.

laurelstar · 17/07/2017 08:15

The dietdoctor.com site that some posters have recommended is excellent. The best thing about cutting out sugar and refined carbs is that after a while you don't want them anymore. I say that as a sugar addict! It's hard for the first few days but gets so much easier. Good luck.

GelfBride · 17/07/2017 09:00

YouTube Butter Bob Briggs. Everything he says on those vids and on his website explain exactly why you crave sugar and why you are not shifting the stored fat. Once you read (or listen to) the science, you will get interested in it for that sake alone and knowing what is going on inside will help you stay off the carbs - I guarantee it.
Agree with PP's don't have the stuff in your house. If you do and you crave it, clean your teeth as that re-sets the urge.

I have started his method of eating and it has taken away my appetite and that has put me back in control. You can't do anything without control. I also second the posters that say try hypno.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 17/07/2017 09:06

I'm 5ft 11 . For mea size14 is still overweight territory for me

Size 12 is about right. Depending on which store though

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 17/07/2017 09:18

I'm.trying to lose weight. Not dieting as such. Just not buying as many goodies. Trying to drink lots of water. Keeping busy and brushing my teeth up to four times a day! I find it easier to resist snacking if I've just brushed my teeth! Also trying not to eat in the evening too. Corrie toast and tea is my downfall

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 17/07/2017 09:22

I'm 5'7 weigh 12 and a half stone. Waist size 12 bottom can be 16-18 because of broad back and ample boobs! My doc says I am a healthy weight for my height / build - I'm just trying to lose for me

Groovee · 17/07/2017 09:40

A year ago I thought I looked great. But being told my BMI was too high for me to be considered for treatment is what kick started me into losing weight. I've gone from 44bmi to 34 BMI, was at 33 but had a holiday gain and am now recovering from the surgery I lost weight for.

Maybe you need www.oagb.org.uk/ for help.

AceholeRimmer · 17/07/2017 09:42

I agree low carb all the way.. I don't crave sugar or bread/potatoes/pasta anymore and I'm a binge eater (several share bags of chocolate a day, huge portions in meals, whole tubs of icecream) It only took a week to feel like that and the weight is falling off.

RockyBird · 17/07/2017 09:49

www.12weekstowow.co.uk

These people do brilliant hypnosis apps. There's a free lite version that is all you need to start with.

Completely adjusted my attitude towards food and portion size.

Mislou · 17/07/2017 10:03

I know you don't want advice but everyone's doing it so I'll add my bit . It sounds like you need something to replace your interest in food. I know when I'm really getting into something, like learning a new craft/ skill / computer graphics programme I get so into it that I just don't want to stop for food. I just want to keep going. I might stick a banana in my mouth on the way back from a toilet trip but could go all day- which I know isn't healthy. Being busy at work and being frugal with your money could help ? ( If I forget to make my sandwiches for work I'm too tight to spend money on extra food when I have real food at home in the fridge so I just try to ignore the hunger pains till school pick up)

hollyisalovelyname · 17/07/2017 10:34

Hypnotherapy did not work for me Sad

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 17/07/2017 12:16

I'm shocked that so many think that people wearing size 14 are fat. No bloody way. I'm 5ft6, size 14 and am not fat

Surely it all depends on how much fat we can grab? We should obviously have some subcutaneous fat, but if we have muffin tops and rolls of the stuff then that is excess to requirements. I'm 5'6", just under 9 stones and a size 10. If I was a size 14 I'd have rolls of excess fat and would feel very overweight/chubby/fat (whatever you prefer to call it) because I'm small framed (small boobs, thin arms and legs). So if OP says she feels as though she personally needs to lose some weight to feel right we should respect that. Whatever happened to the mantra, can you "pinch more than an inch"? It's pretty close to the most accurate way of determining fatness; the use of anthropometric skin-fold calipers after all. Yet we get so hung up on clothes sizes and what the scales say that we ignore that.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 17/07/2017 12:18

OP, diets don't work in the long term and can be soul destroying, so don't go on them. Instead you need to deal with the root cause of your eating habits; boredom, comfort eating, etc. Easier said than done, obviously. I agree with PPs who have suggested going to the GP and asking for counselling for these issues. You may find that if you can deal with the cause, you will naturally eat less and your weight will reduce without needing to "diet".

Ifartrainbowsandglitter · 17/07/2017 12:24

I'm afraid I have no advice. I am fat too and find it difficult to control my desire to eat when I am not even hungry. I even considered going on Dragons Den wii a view to setting up a clinic where people are kept under general anaesthetic until they get to their target weight (and I am only half joking).

GoodBadOrIndifferent · 17/07/2017 12:47

ifart More difficult than you think. Main general anaesthetic agent is formulated in soybean oil and quite calorific

OverTheHammer · 17/07/2017 13:19

Food for thought (literally!)

I have half a mint aero chocolate bar in the cupboard (the large, sharing type). I'm desperate to eat it but I'm reaching my max calorie intake vs outtake for the day if I do.

So I've in putted my upcoming gym session tonight - 20 minutes treadmill, 10 minutes bike, 5 minutes rower ... it only just covers the half chocolate bar.

Exercise does not burn off as much as you think and a simple walk every day is not going to cancel out any amount of cake unfortunately.

ExConstance · 17/07/2017 13:29

I'm 5'3" and 12 stone, and pleased to be so as I have just lost a stone on the BSD in less than 5 weeks. I know that at my height I have another 3 stone to loose but please, OP, don't be depressed, it is not a hugely excessive weight and at 5'6" size 14 is fine. Don't depress yourself thinking about diets and how difficult they are, perhaps tackling the reasons you over eat gently and over time might be far more useful.
