Hi guys new thread.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

thank you acrossthepond, my extensive knowledge of the American legal system is based on watching too many episodes of Law & order Grin

Lightlovelife · 15/07/2017 22:47

Thank you, AcrossthePond. Very interesting and informative.

FallenUnicorn · 15/07/2017 22:47

So sorry for your bad news redshoeblueshoe Flowers

I instantly thought it was crowds of CA turning up at the Gard's house, really wouldn't be shocked at all.

And yes they should be grateful to the staff at the hospital, or at least not let others call them evil murderers if they can't bring themselves to be thankful.

Ellie56 · 15/07/2017 22:48

I thought the scans were to ascertain if his head has grown?

muckypup73 · 15/07/2017 22:50

FallenUnicorn, I am truly and utterly astounded that a woman has an apointment with her child at Gosh and is still protesting. where do these people get off?

One of CA has just suggested that any pain he might be experiencing could be caused by teething . . .

muckypup73 · 15/07/2017 22:51

Ellie56,I think they will show eveything including skull measurment.

The parents have always spent time through the night at Charlie's bedside.

But I would hope that all the staff dealing with Charlie attend to him in pairs so if anything happens, nobody can be accused of doing anything untoward.

NatashaGurdin, oh my goodness....................................

Has anyone listened to Any Answers on R4 today? Charlie's situation was the topic. I must say the very final caller left an indelible impression. Warning - it's pretty harrowing account of a mother who chose once to switch off the life support for one of her babies and choosing not to terminate life support for her second baby. It's one of the most impactful accounts I heard in the entire debate especially when it comes to preserving life at any cost.
Link to programme below. The caller I'm talking about is right at the very end. I think it's extremely relevant to this case.

muckypup73 there are several people on CA who have dc that have been successfully treated by GOSH.
It beggars belief and back to the psychology of it...

thatdearoctopus · 15/07/2017 22:56

I assumed the measuring scans were the ones C&C had objected to. But if they want any chance of this American bloke helping their cause, he has to have up-to-date info, so maybe they've consented to those?

Sostenueto · 15/07/2017 22:58

Yes your right I think Ellie though I'm a bit confused tonight.
Yes I expect the parents do a bit of care, but I would not think they would be touching that ventilator. Connie's a carer, I was a palliative carer for 30 years and even though I was highly qualified on a par to the old SENs (state enrolled nurses) using drivers for drugs and giving diabetic injections, doing stomas, fitting catheters etc ( none of which carers are allowed to do now because of health and safety) I doubt the hospital will let them do much for the same reason of health and safety even if Connie is a carer. Personal care is easy but again I doubt that there would not be a trained nurse on hand just in case that ventilator got blocked etc.

PickAChew · 15/07/2017 23:00

I have plenty of empathy for the parents facing their ultimate nightmare, one they could never have imagined a year ago.

I have no empathy for the hoards of hangers on who are constantly goading grief stricken parents into fighting the system.

I have no empathy for the idiots who call medics doing their absolute best murderers and make their own threats of violence and more agains medics, lawyers and anyone who doesn't believe Charlie will ever be riding a bike.

I have even less tolerance for the shoddy journalism that takes the suggestion that there might be a 50% chance that the nucleosides will cross the blood brain barrier and reports that as a 50% chance os a cure. Idiots, again, when the facts are that the treatment is as likely to have Charlie riding a bike as the pastor's ostentatious public prayers. And even if the public bedside prayers are 1000 times more likely to lead to a miracle than quiet, private prayers, it's still 1000 times fuck all.

goodbyestranger · 15/07/2017 23:01

Thanks for the link affectionincoldclimate :(

muckypup73 · 15/07/2017 23:02

rabbitnothare, it absolutely makes me sick, I truly wish they would do something about that motley crew, not a friggin brain cell between them. And I am sorry ifanyone finds that offensive, the whole case is pissing me off.

OP posts:
NatashaGurdin · 15/07/2017 23:03

One of them also suggested that maybe people should have a choice as to whether they pay NI or private medical insurance. Shock

The sad thing is that I would guess that a lot of the members of CA would not be able to afford comprehensive health insurance would they? Especially as it would almost certainly be more expensive than paying NI.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 15/07/2017 23:05

NatashaGurdin yeah I saw that...no words..

muckypup73 · 15/07/2017 23:05

NatashaGurdin, I seriously think regarding all the comments, the judge should make them all pay private healthcare, its utterly appaling the way they are slagging off the Nhs.

Sostenueto · 15/07/2017 23:06

Well if this damned case helps the government even more in their agenda to dismantle the NHS then I'm more than willing to assist anyone that wants to go and all members of CA onto a plane to the USA

Jux · 15/07/2017 23:07

The US doc needs to know about brain damage though. That comes from scans, I think, or comparisons thereof. I think the head measurement was just a quick indication to tell if his brain was growing, but it's not really good enough in these circumstances.
