Hi guys new thread.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

Just been put out in statement on sky about scans.

AnneofGreenGablesAgain · 15/07/2017 22:30

I said parental rights in the sense of the right parents have to make decisions for the child, in the child's best interests. That is what parental responsibility gives all of us unless the state intervenes, as here. Explained well on the NSPCC website here www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/child-protection-system/england/care-proceedings/

Sirzy · 15/07/2017 22:30

Around the clock other than when they are spending hours sat in court of course!

AnneofGreenGablesAgain · 15/07/2017 22:31

I don't think any parent of any sick child owes any hospital or staff member gratitude. Staff are doing their jobs, no doubt very well and are paid for that.

MirandaWest · 15/07/2017 22:31

I think they are just desperate.

redshoeblueshoe · 15/07/2017 22:31

since these threads started I have had a sudden family bereavement, my only solace has been - that they died very peacefully.
I really wish someone would give Connie a very big hug, and tell her its really OK to let him go.

Writerwannabe83 · 15/07/2017 22:32

In their defence, these days parents are allowed to do a lot of the care of children with complex needs. They will have been trained to mix and give him his feeds, they will do his personal cares, they will give him his medication (if it's via his NG tube), they will know how to handle him/move him correctly and they may have even been trained to suction out his ventilation tubing if it's required (depending on what sort it is).

When we have long term complex patients the parents usually do more of the patient cares than the nurses do. It's a way of getting the parents involved and it is very much encouraged.

Sirzy · 15/07/2017 22:33

I don't agree anne I will be forever greatful to the staff that saved DS life, and contine to treat him now 7 years down the line.

Ta1kinPeace · 15/07/2017 22:34

Anneofgreen
and you accuse OTHERS of heartless posts !!!

You are unbelievable.
The nurses at GOSH look after Charlie 24/7 while his parents slag them off publicly.
I have the manners to be grateful for that even if you do not.

anne - I would expect a nurse working at GOSH might have really problems paying London rents

Yep, just doing our jobs, saving lives. It's nothing really.

Hmm
MoreProseccoNow · 15/07/2017 22:37

I'm surprised the parents are allowed on the ward overnight; when DS was in NICU, parents were huckled out at 8pm so that the babies could rest.

I understand there's often a relative's room on the unit, Ronald McDonald unit nearby, but I'd be surprised if they were in the actual unit overnight, particularly if relations with staff have broken down.

RJnomore1 · 15/07/2017 22:38

I'm obviously a bad personal because "she set her chihuahua on him" made me chuckle.

LikeAFish · 15/07/2017 22:39

GOSH has a hotel for parents over the road.

SimplyNigella · 15/07/2017 22:39

Anne I think you ignoring how far above and beyond so many members of staff go. It's a vocation rather than a job and one that requires more dedication and takes a greater toll on those in the profession than most.

I am grateful for the nursery workers who care for my son when I'm at work, I will be grateful for the teachers who will one day educate him and I am eternally grateful to the doctors and nurses who saved him life, several times. I cannot imagine ever dismissing what they do as just a job that they get paid for.

Lelloteddy · 15/07/2017 22:40

Peace and love folks. And no I'm not a bloody head girl but it's all getting a bit tetchy and a bit too focused on stuff that we actually know fuck all about ( in terms of how much hands on care etc)
Would hate for these largely informative and sensitive threads to disintegrate.

And yes I know if I don't like it I can piss off etc..... Wink

rabbitnothare · 15/07/2017 22:40

AnneofGreenGablesAgain , words fail me with your latest post. Truly abhorrent.

Lightlovelife · 15/07/2017 22:41

She set her Chihuahua on him for some reason this made me laugh til I cried and now DH thinks I'm barking.

Sostenueto · 15/07/2017 22:41

Well I've sussed it. IF indeed they are having scans done either they are shitting bricks at results and that statement is to wind the judge up to such an extent he says OK then f.... off to the US or the scans may not be as bad as they thought, though I must remind people that cellular damage may not show up on scans.

AcrossthePond55 · 15/07/2017 22:42

For those interested in the private bill proposed in the US House of Reps, HR 3188. The following link will allow you to track the progress (if any) of the HR.

www.congress.gov/member/trent-franks/F000448

As you can see from the link, this bill must go through committee, be debated and voted on in the House, then passed to the Senate for committee, debate and vote, then on to the President to sign. The House adjourns for August recess on (IIRC) 1 Aug. It's highly unlikely that this HR will come to a vote in the House before then as I'm sure the House at large does not consider this issue a priority. They have real business to take care of. And even if it does, the Senate is currently too embroiled in the healthcare debacle to take up this private bill.

No, it was a grandstand gesture by these two Congressmen. It's especially despicable because it may have given false hope to the Gards and unneeded fuel to Charlie's so-called 'Army'.

And FWIW the US President does NOT have the ability to 'grant citizenship' to anyone. Nor does he or the Congress have the ability to bypass immigration laws. Fast-track and give preferential treatment, probably yes. But they cannot magically waive the legal requirements for immigration.

AnneofGreenGablesAgain , words fail me with your latest post. Truly abhorrent.

I'm a children's nurse and I can't put into words how it makes me feel without telling Anne to fuck off.

Lightlovelife · 15/07/2017 22:43

Glad I'm not the only one RJ.

Sostenueto · 15/07/2017 22:45
