Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

I so don't want that to be a myth user Grin

user1498911589 · 24/07/2017 03:32

Same here 🤣

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 24/07/2017 09:09

Lynda, can confirm that Tom Conti is lovely. I went to see him in Whose Life Is It Anyway, and was just knocked sideways by how brilliant he was, so I wrote to tell him so. I got a lovely letter back - most of it was typewritten, but then he'd scribbled me a PS and signed it! Grin

Years ago, a little Manchester primary school in a deprived area performed their version of A Midsummer Night's Dream for an end of year concert. Their teacher took some photos and sent them to Sir Laurence Olivier! They received a package of photos of Sir Laurence, with a lovely hand-written letter that started "Dear fellow actors....." Smile

Patriciathestripper1 · 24/07/2017 12:51

clawdy that's a really lovely thing to do. I bet the children were delighted!

My mum and her sister met Harrison Ford in Venice when he was filming Last Crusade. They both said he was absolutely lovely. Mum had been a massive fan since Star Wars. Grin

Charles Kennedy stands out as one of the nicest people I've ever met. I interviewed him in a café on the campaign trail and - as I recall - he ordered us a doughnut and a Diet Coke

BusMum I was invited for drinks on the House of Commons terrace four years ago. It was hosted by a LibDem MP for party workers and though I'm a Labour voter I tagged along. Charles Kennedy joined us to kind of rally the troops. He was so nice and it was obvious that people really respected him. Then the waiter brought our drinks and he excused himself and left. My friend said: 'Charlie can't be around alcohol.'

It was so sad to hear of his death and the struggles with alcoholism he had. I met him for 15 minutes and it was obvious that he was lovely and so well-loved.

ShatnersWig · 24/07/2017 13:17

I've done my Michael Winner story on previous "celebs who were actually really nice" threads. His persona was very much a deliberate invention; he was the most generous, supportive and fabulous famous person I've ever met and I won't hear a word against him.

I've been lucky with work to meet some very big names indeed and in addition to Michael, the others who I found to be utterly lovely were Dame Judi Dench, Dame Angela Lansbury and Bob Monkhouse.

I know some people have little good to say about Paul Daniels and Bruce Forsyth but again I found them to be great, very hard working and very encouraging of others.

The biggest most miserable tosser in the world is Jeremy Irons.

Badcat666 · 24/07/2017 13:27

I met Jeremy Paxman randomly walking down a crowded street in London and we did the "move left and right " move to get out of each other's way. He then said "shall we dance" and burst out in the most lovely proper laugh which set me off into giggles. He then turned round and waved at me as he walked past.

My friend once met Joan Collins a few years ago who said she was a total cow and acted liked she cured cancer instead of just being an actress.

limitedperiodonly · 24/07/2017 13:40

My mum did the 'shall we dance?' thing with Edwina Currie and said Edwina burst out laughing and gave her a little hug. It's very unsettling when you hear things like that Wink

ProphetOfDoom · 24/07/2017 13:53

To stop school children bothering him at his Kent station, Tom Baker does a fine performance as an irascible old man - as he boards his London train turns and give them all a beaming smile & raises his hat...they wait for it!

HelenaDove · 24/07/2017 17:49

Tom Baker was the first Doctor Who i remember. Apparently he once said he didnt care about what adults thought "i care about what the kids think" in reference to the kids who watched the show.

I and loads of others were upset and outraged when they killed off K9.

KERALA1 · 24/07/2017 17:57

Shatners have heard the same from friends who have worked with them about Jeremy Irons and also how Judi Dench is lovely.

nina2b · 24/07/2017 19:20

For some reason, I am pleased to discover that Jeremy Paxman is nice!

BabychamSocialist · 24/07/2017 19:29

I've always had a soft spot for Michael Winner since I saw him defend those lesbians against Richard Littlecock Littlejohn who clearly thought Michael Winner was as much of a nasty arsehole as he was.

BusMum79 · 24/07/2017 19:49

Yes limited I was so sorry to hear of his death. Such a lovely man.

Patriciathestripper1 · 24/07/2017 20:15

Jeremy Irons lives near me and spends a lot of time in my local village (loves fiddle music) he is an incredibly quiet man and dosnt like attention. Dresses quite scruffy and grows a beard between filming. I have seen him say no to people asking for autographs which is a shame as he is so famous.
It can get quite touristy here in the summer so I suppose he gets fed up if he just wants a pint.
His castle is well cool and looks pink in the evenings.

The best ever has to be Bill Clinton when he was in his prime. I was almost unable to breathe. He shook my hand, didn't let it go and looked at me as if I was the only person in the room. Huge, huge amounts of charm and charisma. And that voice! I don't remember a thing about our conversation. I'd have happily laid down then and there for him. Blush

Masonbee · 25/07/2017 07:48

I'm going to disagree on Eamon Holmes! I worked at a venue where he was filming once and whilst he would turn on the charm for members of the general public, he was quite rude and snappy with us mere underlings. It was the contrast between the two that bothered me. He came across as insincere and a bit smarmy. From the odd overheard comment, he wasn't well liked by his team either!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/07/2017 08:21

This may well be an urban myth, but apparently one member of the flight crew got so exasperated by this performance that s/he retorted 'i always knew you couldn't sing, but I didn't realise you couldn't fucking speak either'

Lovely retort! I hope it's true and that he didn't lose his job.

So upset to hear that Jane Horrocks can be an arse - I always liked her.

KERALA1 · 25/07/2017 17:40

My sister met bill Clinton in work capacity and said the same. Even those who beforehand had scoffed at him when they actually met him were bowled over.

Patriciathestripper1 · 25/07/2017 17:43

Shock omg Bill Clinton the old fox.
What makes a man so charismatic? I wish they could bottle it looks at Dh snoring on sofa next to me

OP posts:
nina2b · 25/07/2017 17:58

Apparently, Clinton can work an entire room using eye contact and smiling. Think the general consensus is that he has amazing charisma.

Tapandgo · 25/07/2017 18:43

Prettybird
I can second that for The Glasgow Warriors. So friendly and kind to my critically ill son who met them. His hospital bed (in England) had a Glasgow Warriors flag across it - in their honour!
Pleased to report he is in remission - 😀. Yay for the Glasgow Warriors!

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 25/07/2017 18:43

Does anyone remember the Family Guy episode with Clinton? So funny. He was just as charismatic there!
