New thread so that we can await this afternoon's hearing at 1400 (UK time)

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

If the US doctor needs to see recent scans before he can give an opinion then it would be foolish of the family to refuse. Surely?

Guavaf1sh · 14/07/2017 19:30

This sad situation is being pointlessly prolonged and those people giving the parents false hope and being angry on their behalf - the so called charlie gard army - should hang their head in shame

rabbitnothare · 14/07/2017 19:31

Indeed, Laura Gard has just posted on there again, I think that she is unwise to keep interacting with them.

muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 19:32

Deux, its going to pan out the way the judge wants it too, and I personally think he is covering all bases beforethe machine gets switched off, charlie may even pass away before then, poor little soul.

Ellie56 · 14/07/2017 19:32

If there are no up to date scans available and GOSH explain why the US doctor will quickly get the measure of the parents and what GOSH have been putting up with for months.

I don't for one minute think the medics will not meet on their own. It just won't be publicised.

reallyanotherone · 14/07/2017 19:32

The monkey thing- i think he has 2.

Cg carrying it around like that does make me uncomfortable though. It feels very kate mcann and cuddle cat, almost as if they're copying their actions for media attention...

muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 19:33

Deux, he was not told the truth about the full extent of charlies condition, he will find that out when he is here and there is no way he will then be able to say it will make charlie better.

GriefLeavesItsMark · 14/07/2017 19:33

Well there is a post saying 'that Trollope dollop needs a slap' and others calling her Gollum Gollum, so it looks like Laura's request for love and peace is being ignored.

However, someone is querying why The parents have apparently refused to let Charlie have an Mr I scan, as that would prove his head has grown. The replies to that are priceless.

alpacasandwich · 14/07/2017 19:34

but still in many ways I wanted to doctors to take control and tell us rather than ask.

Sadly, this course of action has been getting less and less likely because of the threat of legal action towards doctors, and the push towards patients knowing best.

It is a shame for those who appreciate more guidance. Unfortunately, nobody wants to be the doctor on the front page of the DM who "ordered treatment that killed my boy!"

Some doctors are still comfortable being paternalistic, but it comes down to professional risk. If the patients understand, consent and agree, it's easier to deal with for the doctor.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/07/2017 19:37

I don't think there would be much grounds for a lawsuit against the Dr (now they've released the name, I simply can't remember it) in the US. To proceed with a lawsuit you have to have some type of actual 'interest in the case' (beyond your agenda, I mean). For example, I am not entitled to file a lawsuit if my next door neighbour's car gets wrecked, I simply have no legal grounds for it. Pro-life groups, etc have no legal 'standing' in the Gard case. They could file a lawsuit, of course, and it would probably cost the doctor a bit to rebut it, but it would be dismissed. This is especially true if everything the doctor says/does for Charlie takes place outside of US legal jurisdiction.

It may be a very good reason why this doctor may be backpedalling smartly on bringing Charlie here. He probably doesn't want to create a situation in which he could be sued for malpractice directly by Charlie's family, or that some group with an agenda may talk his parents into creating some type of PR nightmare of a lawsuit for 'violation of Charlie's Civil Rights'.

muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 19:37

Taken off Ca This sounds encouraging. Is there any way of getting Charlie off the morphine in the meantime? Will this doctor be able to see through the effects it has had on him?

My goodness, so they want the poor child to suffer pain now????

muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 19:38

GriefLeavesItsMark, I have not saw that one, I will go look for it and see the replies.

Are the family running the 'official' twitter account? Lots of re tweets for anti GOSh messages and talk of cover ups.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 14/07/2017 19:40

Nice to see the specialist is Hinaro. I was reading some of his research yesterday while trying to get an overview of MDS subtypes and wondered if it might be him. He certainly does seem to be top of his field.

I had a thought... That bloke in Italy on the end of the phone line - it isn't the pope, is it?! Wink

Ta1kinPeace · 14/07/2017 19:40

The lack of medical understanding on CA has reached a new high

as if they want him on pain meds surely there is something better than morphine

sorry, what !!!!!!
Morphine / heroin are the best painkillers in the world and medics love them because they do not clash, unlike synthetics.
Do these people not even know the basics ???

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/07/2017 19:43

People in there keep going on why they didn't start with calpol for the pain ...ermmmm....

Jux · 14/07/2017 19:45

However that meeting goes will make no difference in the short term. If they explain things as they go along she will not believe them, and if they don't she will think they are deliberately hiding thngs from her. She will come out believing the same as she does now.

The parents are totally invested in believing that there is a cure and that no one wants them to have it.

Those the gods love, they first make mad, is the saying isn't it? I worry how CY will cope once it's all over.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 14/07/2017 19:46

I've taken the evil drug morphine today. It hasn't killed me yet, I'm even able to sit here, read and type. What do they think it does?!

HouseOfMouse · 14/07/2017 19:47

muckypup73 "Deux, he was not told the truth about the full extent of charlies condition, he will find that out when he is here and there is no way he will then be able to say it will make charlie better."
I agree with this - I think the judge has effectively called the parents' bluff. The approach he has proposed means that, once all the medics get round a table and the facts get aired, then all the misinformation which has been bandied about re Charlie's condition goes out the window. Hopefully.

originalbiglymavis · 14/07/2017 19:48

It's as if the car are almost enjoying the drama and pantomine of it all. Boo the evil baddies, cheer the goodies, and with a good dose of conspiracy theory thrown in.

Back in the pre Facebook and social media days I had the misfortune of working for a company that was wrongly thought to have dealings with a monkey lab (done idiot got names muddled up and put put our head office address on their website). The stuff we used to get through the mail was definitely from sick and twisted minds. Plus we were on IRA target lists anyway so we also had to consider parcel bombs.

I couldn't deal with the new world madnesses.

Yamayo · 14/07/2017 19:49

I thought the CA page had disappeared?

rabbitnothare · 14/07/2017 19:50

originalbiglymavis my dh has a high profile public position. We have been sent wreaths with our dc name on.

3littlebadgers · 14/07/2017 19:54

Rabbit that is awful! I'm so sorry that happened to your family. People can be so twisted!

SimplyNigella · 14/07/2017 19:56
