To think it will serve some smokers right if outdoor smoking is banned

Yesterday a friend and I were sitting outside a cafe in a park (no indoor seating) having a coffee. We were the only people there as it was late in the afternoon. A couple sat at the table right beside us and proceeded to light up and enjoy a couple of cigarettes with their coffee.

I was sitting at the bus shelter a couple of evenings ago and a guy sat down beside me and proceeded to light a cigarette. I got up and walked a few feet away and stood until the bus came. He just smoked away, oblivious.

There was a long queue at the ATM today as several in the area weren't working. A woman smoked away in front of me and around loads of other people as we all waited for our turn.

Surely, just because smoking isn't illegal out of doors, it doesn't mean smokers don't have to show any consideration of cop on towards others.

AIBU to think that some smokers (and I know it's only some) will have only themselves to blame if smoking out of doors is eventually made illegal?

I'm usually an introvert, but I lost the plot with a lady smoking right next to the school gates (there are signs everywhere telling people not to smoke so close to school).
Three nights before that, I was at A&E with DTS not breathing properly with his asthma and him being given nebuliser. So when he was well enough to come back to school, here was this lady puffing away in our direction. I called her all sorts of things😤😡

How can anyone justify and defend smoking around other people? Mind boggling.

Because it gets people frothing... properly spitting and snarling. It's the feels Grin

No you're right! It's utterly disgusting to sit next to someone smoking and they rarely show any consideration for others. The worst is when you see parents smoking in cars with their kids. It's illegal but doesn't seem to stop any of them.

Saw this report, and thought of this thread.

Bad news for vaper-haters ....

Ugh, that document makes me ragey.

It is not government business.

FluffyPineapple · 18/07/2017 23:41

I apologise if you have already answered this OP but is there a valid reason why you couldn't have left the queue at the ATM and let your DH keep your place?

I note you did the sensible thing and moved away from the smoker at the bus stop. What about the café? Did you move or ask the smokers to move or did you sit there spluttering and gagging all the way through their couple of cigarettes?

I have never smoked but I can't for the life of me see how other people smoking is such a big deal.

Don't like it - Move away. If my space is invaded by parents with their noisy, unruly, tantrumming offspring I move away and find a spot which suits me. Its not that difficult - Honest!

great news about the report! It will happen, we will eventually be smoke-free, not a minute too soon.

Regarding the government business: why do you care if I am wearing a seat belt or not? Unless I am in the back sit right behind you, it has no impact on you if I wear one or not.
When you smoke, not only it affects you, but other people around. We just have to campaign to see the changes coming into effect earlier. Banning smoking from all eating places, parks etc for a start is necessary.

It should be banned in all eating areas inside and out. There is a lovely ice cream parlour near us and seating inside is limited. The outside seating is ruined by people smoking. My son is asthmatic and it puts his health at risk, hence we seldom go there.
