New thread so that we can await this morning's hearing.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 5 threads have been.

Fingers crossed that this can all be resolved today and that Charlie and his parents can find peace.

Catherine Glenn Foster (who I think is something to do with the American pastor but stand to be corrected) has tweeted that she's had meetings with Connie, Chris and their legal team during the break.

I'm sure the legal team is thrilled to have had her input.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 13/07/2017 13:42

Catherine Glenn Foster is an American pro-life lawyer and legal writer who should know better than coming over to the UK and purposefully mis-characterizing the provisions and application of the relevant legislation here

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 13:42

I am attaching the tweet shatner, I couldn't quite believe it until I saw.

This is just disgusting to prey on them like this.

No it doesnt mean anything opening his eyes, my brother who had severe cerabal palsy was blind and deaf his eyes were always open.

Imaweeble · 13/07/2017 13:42

No I know that, but that's what they are claiming that because he can open his eyes he can see and watch tv etc.

which is ridiculous im

ShatnersWig · 13/07/2017 13:45

Latest from the Barmy:

It is true in the uk hospitals are very flick switch happy ,let's just turn em all off cos we have a budget .this is our wonderful nhs

Which is about as distasteful as I've seen today. How much will this treatment that Charlie has had for the past best part of a year cost? This is nothing to do with budgets and how dare she. If it was to do with budgets, hell, just get the parents to hand over all the money made from the car stickers, bracelets and donations which were something like £1.7 million and GOSH will simply agree to leave him on the ventilator for another six months. Morons.

SumThucker · 13/07/2017 13:46

Aaah the sycophancy of that tweet!!

muckypup73 · 13/07/2017 13:47

ShatnersWig, i am staying off barmy for a bit, if it was about the money, Gosh would have let the parents take him to America when theyd raised the money.

JigglyTuff · 13/07/2017 13:47

The number of disgusting parasites leaching off this poor baby and his beleaguered parents is becoming beyond parody.

muckypup73 · 13/07/2017 13:48

JigglyTuff, its crazy, Iam just glad Mumsnet is letting us have a little platform with a balanced veiw.

Sostenueto · 13/07/2017 13:49

Understand where you are coming from blimp and agree they have made terrible choices because they do not have a proper supportive family around them to advise them.

arsenicistheanswer · 13/07/2017 13:49

Mccakes that ethics piece is very interesting and thought provoking.

Sluttybartfast · 13/07/2017 13:50

Thanks for posting the article mcakes. I can see that it's perfectly sound ethical reasoning, but I think it's taking too high-level and vague a view of the medical evidence. Granted, it's complex, but you can't just go "some doctors say X, some say Y, so it is reasonable to wait and see which ones are right", you have to look at the veracity and balance of the evidence. And I don't think it addresses the fact that the treatment of Charlie would be experimental, and would thus probably not pass a standard medical ethics board anyway.

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 13:51

Court will reassemble in 5 min

BabyHamster · 13/07/2017 13:51

blimp that comment was no better than the hatred spouted by CA.

An interesting video, given the Charlie situation.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 13/07/2017 13:51

There is no standard way of grieving. Today the focus must stay on Charlie, but the parents must be forgiven and pitied for what they are going through.

I absolutely agree. Some of the comments here re: the parents are indefensible.

Ceto · 13/07/2017 13:51

It's telling that the grandparents are keeping well out of the spotlight. I wonder whether the reality is that they don't support what is happening, and/or that they couldn't confirm all the stuff about Charlie enjoying watching the iPad.

Minkyfluffster · 13/07/2017 13:52

I think that there is a very good chance that at some point either Connie or Chris may read these threads (there will be some long, dark nights ahead). Please consider this when posting

alpacasandwich · 13/07/2017 13:52

The argument that Charlie has already endured ITU for six months is pure sunk cost fallacy. Just because he has endured it does not mean it should continue.

I still don't understand why a country that is overwhelmingly pro euthanasia for animals and grown adults is so emotionally blinded when the patient is a helpless baby.

redshoeblueshoe · 13/07/2017 13:53

can I just say the behaviour they showed in court last week would not have been permitted in nicu at the hospital my relative was at. There are signs everywhere about what will not be tolerated.

muckypup73 · 13/07/2017 13:53

ViveLesVacances, someone posted that lastnight x

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 13:53

I think it's better to ignore comments that you don't agree with rather than highlight them again, otherwise it will turn into a bun fight.

No one is 'better' or 'nicer' than anyone else for expressing a different view.
