New thread so that we can await this morning's hearing.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 5 threads have been.

Fingers crossed that this can all be resolved today and that Charlie and his parents can find peace.

I really don't think this will be decided on how the parents behave in court. It's not about the parents.

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 13:08

Court adjourns for lunch break. Will reassemble at 1355 to be ready for video link from New York planned for 1400. On my way to @SkyNews.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 13/07/2017 13:08

I haven't commented up to this point, but I do feel that the Gards are living in an altered reality. They have been let down and taken advantage of by their families, friends, the media and internet vigilantes calling themselves CA. In the midst of their grief they're being fed utter bull by the people they trust, then you've got so called expects wading in, and even the fucking president! They're clinging onto that last bit of hope, and where they should be being consoled and protected by their families, they're being given (false) ammunition to keep on fighting.

I can only begin to imagine what they're going through, but this circus their living in benefits nobody, and as an outsider I am starting to fear for their mental health once it's over.

stitchglitched · 13/07/2017 13:09

CA saying surely if the brain damage was irreversible he would be a lot smaller and thinner than he is now.

Who needs doctors eh.

ShatnersWig · 13/07/2017 13:09

That's what it boils down to though. They have previously agreed that he has no quality of life. Which contradicts things such as "He enjoys watching his ipad and having his feet tickled" that they have since claimed.

The Judge is going to want to hear from this expert this afternoon what the chance/prognosis is of this possible treatment. What is the chance of it IMPROVING his quality of life. Everything heard so far tends to suggest no more than actually sustaining him as he is to live longer but not actually any improvement.

And if the parents have said there is no quality of life, then giving him treatment that does nothing except prolong that non-quality of life, then clearly the Judge isn't going to overturn the three previous rulings. If there is a chance of improvement, the Judge will listen to that and then balance it up. But if that chance is as low as the claimed 0.1% and not the false 10%, he won't grant that.

Trampire · 13/07/2017 13:10

CA think it's going all Gards way because "GOSH have submitted no evidence or said anything"

I don't think they get the idea that the Gards barrister presented argument first.

ViveLesVacances · 13/07/2017 13:10

Easy now folks. They may not be conducting themselves with a lot of dignity right now, but they are two people under a lot of stress and who are on the brink of the most unimaginable pain.

Let's not get personal and too harsh.

passmethewineplease · 13/07/2017 13:11

Someone the CA page has actuat advised parents not to take their children to a government hospital of they're seriously ill.

Words fail me.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 13/07/2017 13:11

I am starting to fear for their mental health once it's over.

Im fearing for the safety of the medical staff come the day Charlies life support will be switched off.

passmethewineplease · 13/07/2017 13:12

I agree vive. They're obviously not coping. I don't think it's fair to call them disgraceful and tantruming children.

ViveLesVacances · 13/07/2017 13:12

Exactly, @CJ Hard to imagine there wasn't a single sensible voice in their whole support system.

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 13:12

Im fearing for the safety of the medical staff come the day Charlies life support will be switched off

Me too, this is very volatile.

totallyliterally · 13/07/2017 13:12

Thank you @ViveLesVacances and @ShatnersWig for both your posts. Totally agree.

HouseOfMouse · 13/07/2017 13:13

And that (re quality of life) is what they said in April. It is clear that poor Charlie has deteriorated even further since then.
Unfortunately I think CA and the various idiotic twitter commentators have watched too many legal dramas where all you have to do is go in and give an emotive speech and the judge says, fair do's. That's simply not how the legal process works. If the parents are acting this way when their own counsel is putting the case, goodness knows how they will be when the guardian's and GOSH's counsel start.

Fantastictwistsand · 13/07/2017 13:13

Vive I couldn't agree more! I think people are forgetting that their child is most likely going to die.

darbyshaw · 13/07/2017 13:14

Sadly I do not think the parents have the intellectual capacity to break through the emotional side of this. They are absolutely entrenched in what they believe to be 'the truth' and are very much in an echo chamber - they are either incapable of letting anyone break that or unwilling entirely to even listen to another perspective.

I do believe they genuinely feel they are acting in their son's best interests but they are incapable of taking on board anything that shows them they are wrong. Whether being more educated (or surrounding themselves with more educated people) would've helped them understand this, I don't know. But I've said it before as have others, that they are being supported in very much the wrong way.

CA, if they really were fighting for Charlie, would be supporting GOSH, but they are too bloody stupid to figure that out.

Sluttybartfast · 13/07/2017 13:14

Was there need or requirement for GOSH to present evidence? They aren't contesting the existing ruling. Although if I were them, I would still, if at all possible, present records of Charlie's current condition and of his condition since the previous hearings.

I really think the Gards should be regarded as not in their right minds right now.

muckypup73 · 13/07/2017 13:16

I have just come off Charlies army page................................ I couldnt read anymore, they are talking about punching peoples faces and all sorts of vile stuff.

ShatnersWig · 13/07/2017 13:16

Good news from the Barmy though....

Connie & chris have the monkey guys its a lie!💙💙💙💙

Blimey, everyone's a liar these days. Almost.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 13/07/2017 13:16

I'm torn with pity for what they must be going through but also thinking that if this has been their behaviour recently then it must have been hell in that unit for the other children, their parents and the staff.

Oh dear, how do you behave with dignity when your heart is breaking? What on earth could prepare you for that? But if others around you are facing the same then do you not have to reign in your emotions for the greater good?

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 13:17

but whyy last week did thy say ok we accept it we want to take him home?

was that just a ruse?

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 13/07/2017 13:18

*rein Blush

CaveMum · 13/07/2017 13:18

I'm assuming if they shout in the court room while the GOSH barrister/Charlie's Court Guardian are speaking, there's a risk of being held in contempt.

Of course the Judge will try to be understanding given the circumstances, but he won't be able to allow them to continually interrupt the hearing.

muckypup73 · 13/07/2017 13:18

ShatnersWig, I think all these people are probably the type of people that have trust in nobody and have no respect for nobody either.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 13:18

The judge sounds astute. Also think the courts sound very reasonable asking them back if they want to. Must be understandable, the stress they are under, I guess.
