If we can get our hands free to type from the constant facepalming, we should be able to post on this topic.

You can't accidentally hit submit.

Or then take 5 months to submit the amended version.

Would it be true that they did send a wrong version and then told the FBI 12 hours later it was a mistake, he wouldn't have got security clearance.

“Insurance companies would once again be allowed to refuse to cover basic preventive health care, as well as charge women co-pays for birth control, immunizations, and cancer screenings.”

All of this is absolutely disgusting, but the removal of cancer screening beggars belief, particularly when earlier coverage has pointed out men can still get medication for erectile dysfuction. It is absolutely evil. Angry Angry Angry Bastards!

Donald Quixote. I am going to be giggling about that one all day.

But on the down side, this from the Guardian article on the removal of contraceptive coverage: "Early research has also associated the contraception mandate with a historic drop in the US abortion rate that occurred in 2014." If ever one needed proof that the GOP/religious right attitude to abortion and contraception has sweet fuck all to do with saving the darling ickle foetuses and everything to do with deliberately screwing over women because they are raving rampant misogynists, there it is, right there in that one sentence.

Re healthcare: some of them are all heart /sarcasm off

Paul Ryan
Paul Ryan @SpeakerRyan
I stand with #CharlieGard & his parents. Health care should be between patients & doctors—govt has no place in the life or death business.

He clearly hasn't turned his sarcasm or irony filter off or he'd note the discrepancy of a foreign government official commenting on something that he himself proclaims "govt has no place in".

Lweji · 15/07/2017 10:07

There's no irony for Paul Ryan because he thinks those parents should be paying for their son healthcare. Not the government.
He does forget that an insurance company would probably have stopped paging anything quite a while ago.

Lweji · 15/07/2017 10:08

Or paying instead of paging...

Gumpendorf · 15/07/2017 10:25

I suppose Ryan and Pence using the Charlie Gard case to promote their own crappy health care philosophy is inevitable, but it annoys the hell out of me even more than them normalising Trump's behaviour.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 15/07/2017 10:48

Gump likewise - with knobs on!

lionheart · 15/07/2017 11:24

My word. I have just seen that Trump-Macron-group handholding thing.

BiglyBadgers · 15/07/2017 14:54

The GOPs commenting on the Charlie Gard case make me bloody furious. It is the outrageous hypocrisy! Under their plan the poor child wouldn't have had any treatment at all unless his parents were really rich or had amazing insurance. The case is also primarily about child welfare and whether moving him and continuing treatment is actually causing more suffering than help. I am pretty sure that American law does in fact have something to say on the subject of child welfare and protection. Hmm

AcrossthePond55 · 15/07/2017 15:02

Spot on, Lweji. In the US, Charlie by now would have been allowed to die with dignity. Insurance would have stopped paying and chances are that the doctors would have refused further treatment and resigned from the case. The hospital would probably have begun court proceedings to turn off life support and I believe it would have been granted.

Gosh, when even insurance companies are complaining about the new gop healthcare bill Confused

Millions More Uninsured Could Impact Health Of Those With Insurance, Too
khn.org/news/millions-more-uninsured-could-impact-health-of-those-with-insurance-too/

From article:
That is mostly because it is difficult for health providers to maintain services in areas with large numbers of patients who cannot pay for care. “Those communities are less attractive for physicians and other health care providers to locate,” said Ayanian. “That affects access to care for everyone,” he said, particularly for critical but high-cost services like trauma care, burn care and neonatal intensive care.

The potential is not merely theoretical. Hospitals in sparsely populated areas, particularly in states that did not opt to expand the Medicaid program, have been cutting back services like maternity care or closing altogether in recent years. These are the same parts of the country that voted for President Donald Trump by large margins.

The impact is not just on availability of services. A 2007 study from researchers at the University of Pennsylvania in the journal Health Affairs found that in areas with many uninsured people, the quality of care was lower as well. Primary care doctors “reported that the higher the proportion of uninsured people in their community, the less likely they are to be able to refer their patients to high-quality specialists,” found the researchers. “Specialists also reported that the higher the community uninsurance rate, the less able they are to deliver high-quality care to their patients,” the study said.

Meanwhile in Congress

The right to bare arms.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 15/07/2017 16:41

Hahaha. I thought Orlantina had committed a crime against spelling, but no:

US Congresswomen have protested for the right to bare arms in parts of Washington DC's Capitol building.
The National Rifle Association may be disappointed to learn that this is not a typo. They are not campaigning to bear weapons, but to stand against the Congressional dress code.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Stock Market hit another all-time high yesterday - despite the Russian hoax story! Also, jobs numbers are starting to look very good!

orlantina · 15/07/2017 18:00

I wonder who he'll blame if the stock market goes down?

orlantina · 15/07/2017 18:01

Oh - and what's the hoax?

More gaslighting by Trump

So, this Russian lobbyist who was at the now infamous meeting claims information was handed over to Jr Shock Confused

Russian-American lobbyist: I just strolled into Trump Jr. meeting

"Although Trump Jr. has insisted that Vesenikstaya mainly wanted to talk about Russian adoptions, Akhmetshin said she brought a folder with information about an American hedge fund operating in Russia that she believed was funneling money to the Democratic National Committee. “She spent years researching this stuff,” he said. She left the folder with her hosts at Trump Tower, Akhmetshin said, adding that he had never seen its contents and doesn’t know the details of what was in it. “I didn’t prepare the document,” he said."
