The comments about socialized health care causing this - the Government being able to kill at will etc.
Right now I'm talking to a couple of pregnant American mums who are trying to get medical intervention for their child. Due to a diagnosis of Edwards Syndrome moat hospitals are loathe to help. Even in America. Plus they cant even afford to go to the best hospitals who are moat likely to help because their insurance won't cover it. That's the cost of American care. Months of pregnancy wondering why you cant use a hospital that will fight for your child because of a clause in your insurance

Carriemac · 12/07/2017 11:41

Sarah Vine - too stupid to take her own poorly child to see a doctor then bashing GOSH? how is that a news item?

TheWeeWitch · 12/07/2017 11:41

@Lotsofsighing thanks. This bit 👏

We live in an age where feelings matter more than facts, faith more than truth. If Connie Yates believes her son is “getting stronger”, that this US treatment could make Charlie — who cannot swallow, open his eyes or breathe unaided — “a normal boy”, who are experts to contradict her? It is entirely understandable when poor Chris Gard, grieving for his son and empowered by tweets from the Pope, yells, “When are you going to start telling the truth?” at a High Court judge. But does the magnitude of the couple’s suffering make them right?

goodbyestranger · 12/07/2017 11:43

The Sarah Vine article is generalizing from one example of a midwife not spotting a problem. The doctor got the problem in an instant.

ArgyMargy · 12/07/2017 11:43

Do you have to be a member of the CA group in order to report comments? I can't seem to find the "report" button, only a "hide" one.

Much love to you and your daughter, Lonelymummyof1

Oogle · 12/07/2017 11:44

sum Grin you are not wrong. I could weep at the stupidity of some of the posters on that site, I really could.

Rabbitnothare · 12/07/2017 11:44

So they're actively trying to obstruct care for others by shutting gosh's email servers by "mail bombing"?! god they are such fucking dicks

Agreed and despite hating the hospital, Laura Gard has arranged for the crappy hampers and next sale clothing to be sent direct to PICU.

Because they do have time do deal with all that.

Rachel0Greep · 12/07/2017 11:47

Argy if you click hide, you should then see an option to report. I have done it with some this morning - and am definitely not part of the Army.

CaveMum · 12/07/2017 11:47

redshoeblueshoe · 12/07/2017 11:49

Lotsofsighing thanks for posting that. But I can assure you in this country there has been protesting outside abortions clinics from the time they were set up, and as far as I'm aware its still going on.

Nearly10to9 · 12/07/2017 11:49

Copied from Facebook, so they're trying to get US citizenship for the family so they can get Charlie moved to the US? As the US is known for low medical fees etc? Even with the funds raised I doubt they would last long?
I know it's public domain, but have xxx the name anyway

A copy of the American #charliesarmy! FULL STEAM AHEAD!! Come on Charlie 💙💙💙💙💙 #charliesarmy #charliegard

Everyone.

Change of Focus For today.
VOTING IS TOMMORROW
There is going to be a bill put before Congress to grant Charlie and Connie and Chris Citizenship here. This will then change things and put Charlie's case in an international domain.
Please can you ALL support xxxxx in this venture by focussing today on contacting your Congressmen and Senators and put the word out about Charlie and his fight in the UK and what we are trying to do.
Please look at the pinned post above before doing so and contact xxx or myself with any queations.
Congress are voting on this tomorrow ; so we NEED to get cracking!
Thank you! —

MommaGee · 12/07/2017 11:50

Thinking of you and your little girl LonelyMummyof1

I have sent a message in support to GOSH. I've, also reported many of the comments on the CA Facebook and reported the group but I expect nothing will change.

ArgyMargy · 12/07/2017 11:50

Ah yes thank you Rachel0 - lots of clicks to go through but hey ho. I'll while away a bit of time now reporting personal comments about Ms Gollop!

GabsAlot · 12/07/2017 11:50

charlies interest should always come first what are they on

sorry hes a human being in his own right-his parents are guardians

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/07/2017 11:51

Sorry it's from the Mail, but according to this the parents are concentrating on "debunking 8 myths" which GOSH have encouraged:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4686912/Eight-myths-Charlie-Gard-s-parents-trying-debunk.html

It doesn't make sense, though ... the judge doesn't want more "yes he is, no he isn't", he wants evidence. So if the article's anything like right, what's the point in saying yet again that they don't believe what they've been told and rehashing the arguments which GOSH have refuted? Wouldn't the time be better spent producing this so-called evidence?

Yamayo · 12/07/2017 11:53

Sarah Vine's article spectacularly misses the point.

She argues that doctors should trust Charlie's mother's instinct because when Vine's own son was little she happened to notice something was off and was dismissed by her health visitor.
As it turns out her baby ended up needing emergency surgery and could have died from an untreated ear infection.

In Charlie's case everyone knows what is wrong with him. He's been seen and assessed by quite a few doctors and his cased has been referred to for advice all over the world.
The problem is not his medical condition, it's his parents' denial.

nina2b · 12/07/2017 11:55

Today 11:35 MyPatronusIsAUnicorn

"The Telegraph is saying that Charlie's parents feel 'stitched up' at only having until today to provide the new evidence."

Oh fgs. If this is true then I can't not comment on the parents now. I've held back because they are desperste, grieving parents who have lost all touch with reality. But this is a joke! They supposedly had new evidence and presented the total sum of fuck all on Monday. Where is this new evidence they have if they are whining they aren't being given enough time to provide it. Basically they have nothing and this has been nothing more than another (successful) attempt to delay it yet again. Just go and spend the last remaining however long with your terminally ill child ffs instead of interviews, posing with a bloody pastor and whipping up CA into a frenzy. angry I'm actually feeling quite angry now. Whilst a lot of it comes from CA, the parents and family are not exactly refuting what they say.

I really feel for the staff that are doing their best for Charlie, knowing that his parents seem to have such utter comtempt for them. If they didn't they would tell the 'army' not to call them murderers etc.

That is an excellent post and an excellent summary of my feelings too. These people are puffed up with a misguided sense of their own importance. They do not have the support of the majority in this country in their belittling of a medical centre of excellence. I don't read the rubbish they trot out - I just cannot bear to. Awful people.

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/07/2017 11:56

I've just ordered a big balloon in the shape of a thumbs-up 'like' symbol to be delivered to PICU staff, with a 'nil illegitimi... ' message. Said I'm proud to share the same profession as them.

Should be delivered tomorrow.

RMC123 · 12/07/2017 11:56

FlowersLonely x

Haven't got time to read the full thread now but still find myself pondering this case all the time.
I still have tremendous empathy with the parents. Even though their behaviour is not rational or at times helpful. I keep thinking what must it be like to look at the calendar and think 'This time next week Charlie might be dead?' Knowing that is a very real possibly and you would do anything in your power to stop it. Logic has gone out the window and my heart breaks for them. Whatever happens they have a very hard road ahead, which I believe is only being made harder by the actions of CA.
I have read a few of the CA posts and it has struck me how many are bringing up stories of times their own children were misdiagnosed by HCPs. None of the stories bear any resemblance to Charlie's case of course, but they seem to give an insight into why this movement against GOSH is growing. The case is at face value about Charlie but on truth he is just a cause for CA to vent there own issues. Every time they felt ignored by someone in authority, or someone got it wrong or they felt powerless is crystallised in their 'fight for Charlie.' They truly believe this is a fight for their rights against the establishment . A bit like the Brexit vote was recognised to have become about so much more than leaving the EU.
Charlie has become a pawn in a political game played by a lot of people; including Trump, Farage and CA.
Charlie's needs and rights are secondary in all of these and they are the only thing that matters,

Rabbitnothare · 12/07/2017 11:56

Best comment yet on the CA page

Cos the Queen is a slag, as is Teresa May

nina2b · 12/07/2017 11:57

As for Sarah Vine, she was utterly discredited when she wrote in The Fail about being the wife of the soon-to-be Prime Minister - none other than her husband, the ghastly Michael Gove!!

Bleurgh

RMC123 · 12/07/2017 11:59

Just read back a bit Sarah Vine!! Why am I not surprised she has got involved?!? Wasn't it her husband the charming MR GOVE who said " He thought we had all had enough of experts."
Well Mr Gove this is where we end up when we ignore experts. Good honest hard working people and little boys suffer.

Rabbitnothare · 12/07/2017 11:59

I like this comment, patiently trying to tell top class neurologists how to measure the head circumference.

Yamayo · 12/07/2017 12:00

Puzzled there is no evidence.
Everything about this so-called treatment is speculation. The only thing everyone seems to agree with is that brain damage cannot be repaired- which is why the parents are insisting he has no brain damage.

I feel the parents are increasingly panicked because they have no time left. They are emotionally unable to bear the thought of Charlie dying and are trying to delay the inevitable.
Of course having a rabid group of people ranting about murdering babies and praying for miracles is making the whole thing worse.

this whole situation is so awful. Poor little baby. Poor parents. Someone needs to help them prepare themselves.
