I don't think Charlie's parents give a shit about the money. Nothing I've seen from either of them suggests they do. It's the aunt I'm hmm about.

I don't think that they care about the actual money, but I do think they care about the donations and want to keep seeing them rolling in because it means that they've still got their "army" IYKWIM.

I think a lot of this is about popularity, although that is the wrong word. I don't think Connie would cope well if her spotlight and army and followers moved on to a new cause, that is why I think the donations matter to her.

Ta1kinPeace · 11/07/2017 19:47

sodablack
Buying GOSH mugs is a good way to donate to the right place though Grin

PacificDogwod · 11/07/2017 19:47

Nocoolnameleft Thanks

I agree with every word.

Cococrumble · 11/07/2017 19:47

Nocoolnamesleft Flowers I'm in awe of all you HCPs. You're phenomenally wonderful super humans.

lurkeyishere · 11/07/2017 19:48

The gofundme page has raised at least £2000 in the last 24hrs alone

TheWeeWitch · 11/07/2017 19:49

There's a post on the "rival" CA FB group that tries to explain the spat between them and the others. She posts a series of screen shots of messages between Laura Gard and herself discussing profit margins for sales of arm bands (or something?!). Seems the lady running the page wasn't generating enough income for them and they've all fallen out over it. All the while there's a dying baby etc etc....

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 11/07/2017 19:50

TinselTwins Yes, I think the Barmy and the perceived public support (which I don't think they actually have much of outside the Barmy) is very important to them.

But I really don't think they're trying to make money out of the situation, or that they care at all that £2m is waiting for them.

Sostenueto · 11/07/2017 19:50

I don't think going on about the money is to anyone's benefit really. No amount of money the parents receive will ever compensate for the loss of their child.

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 19:51

Is that the one called Charlie's Angels, the CA was wanting to shut down?

OP posts:
Rabbitnothare · 11/07/2017 19:52

Connie originally set up the go fund page, that was definitely her. I do believe that it was for treatment though.

I cannot understand why the fund raising is still going and even being stepped up.

I must admit, I felt quite upset when someone asked if the CA could make up the last £900 needed for Alfie and posted his link.

It was removed within minutes.

Shame the admin leave up the death threats against staff but so quick to remove the link to help another baby.

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 19:52

I think it's the idea anyone could take advantage of such a situation for financial reasons which is distasteful. Not the parents, but someone else perhaps.

I just read a post saying "just look what stephen hawkins has achieved"
FML

TinselTwins · 11/07/2017 19:57

I cannot understand why the fund raising is still going and even being stepped up.

maybe because watching the total go up every day is validation that they are still the most followed cause of the moment.

That's why they shut down requests to promote other fund raising pages

ItsNachoCheese · 11/07/2017 19:57

Stephen hawkings has motor neurone disease... last time i checked that and charlies condition where 2 seperate conditions...

TheWeeWitch · 11/07/2017 19:59

Yes lovely. I feel a bit sorry for her. She's clearly been excommunicated but is carrying on the cause nonetheless.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2017 19:59

Superb post, nocoolnames left Flowers

To answer a previous question, AFAIK there's nothing to prevent a charity commenting on donations; I used to be a trustee and recall nothing disallowing this. However I believe few would give info on who's donated what, out of respect for their donors' privacy

But I don't think Charlie's mum and dad have registered their cause as a charity ...?

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 20:01

I find the FB group so awful. Is there anyone we could report the vile stuff they are saying too, as it is quite well, defamatory and abusive to the hospital and staff involved. But not sure who to report too. FB don't seem to care.

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 20:01

I think they can't access the GoFundme. Or something.

Just seen this on Charlie's Fight FB page. Some intelligent people posting amongst the crap. How long before their posts are removed? The lucid American poster thinks it unlikely that Charlie would get American citizenship.

Ann Bev
Tomorrow the United States Congress are meeting to give Charlie citizenship here so he can receive medication. Once he's a citizen of the United States the judge can't do anything. We'll be sending over FU BRIT'S to bring our citizen Charlie and his parents home!!! The whole world is watching in disgust. Hang on Charlie.. Trump's coming.

Susan Saunders
Ann the bill has two sponsors. It will be assigned to a committee for study. If released by the committee, the bill is put on a calendar to be voted on, debated or amended. If the bill passes by simple majority (218 of 435), the bill moves to the Senate where they have to vote. Doubtful that this child will be given citizenship. And the bill was introduced last Friday. Know what you are talking about before you denigrate others

Ann Bev
Ann Bev On his fb page the congressman siad they're pushing it. Way to be optimistic. Like our President can't or won't fast forward this? Pfffft.

Nicola Lloyd
You've been watching too many films.

Britt Brown
Totally agree with you Ann Bev, the way the family is being treated im ashamed to be British

Leanne Gallagher
The President cannot award citizenship. How do you not understand something so basic about your own country? 🙄

Vicki Wroe And if he dies in mid air, what then?! They'll wanna bring him back home and bury/cremate back on british soil no doubt. He is not a fucking pedigree dog that comes with ownership papers. Hes a human baby and a very poorly one at that

Ann Bev
It is possible and is happening today. Get a life and get off of this page if you're not backing this child to live. Evil trolls.

Susan Saunders
Ann Bev who are you to tell anyone to get off this page just because you don't like what they post. I merely posted how the process works in the US. SMH.

Ann Bev
You negative people probably work at that death camp aka gosh? Why tf would they put Charlie on fking MORPHINE the day before court when he had never been on it?! That is what they give adults in hospice to speed up death. His little body can't fight that off too long! Covering their asses to the point of flat out MURDER! Of course they don't want a specialist here in the states to see him because the world will know what they did and are doing to ALL very ill patients/body part harvesters!!! GOSH, their entire hospital, staff and even Judge Death have a lot to lose financially! Even if they succeed in killing him because they took away their parental rights they can't even demand an autopsy on him. I'll never step foot in England let alone go to that slaughter house. Now kindly GFYS's!!

Paul Gelding V
Ann Bev Grow up! Even if he is given US citizenship he is still British and the courts will not let him be moved! Why are Americans so dim?

Leanne Gallagher
Ann, we're not trolls, we're telling you how citizenship works. No one had mentioned whether or not they are backing Charlie to live.

Leanne Gallagher
Morphine is a pain relief, you complete muppet.

Leanne Gallagher
In fact, I can't even begin to describe the level of stupidity in your rant.

  1. GOSH is one of the leading children's hospitals in the world. Mitochondrial depletion is so rare that there are very, very few specialists in the world. The US has 1 specialist for its enormous population. That's how rare this illness is.
  2. Morphine is a pain relief, he's been given it because they believe he is in pain. It is not a death drug.
  3. GOSH have no gain financially from Charlie, either living or deceased. The hospital, like all of the NHS, is funded by taxes which are paid by the entire UK population. We do not pay for health care in the same way you do, we aren't presented with a bill at the end of it. They have no financial gain whatsoever.
  4. The judge has no financial gain either, regardless of verdict they will be paid a fixed sum for their services. They don't get paid more for one verdict over another.
  5. Any death in hospital means no autopsy because there is a clinical cause of death. It's got nothing to do with rights, it's how it works in the UK. They are well within their rights to request an autopsy on him, should he pass away.

Please take off your tin foil hat, desist with your conspiracy theories and live in the real world. You have no idea how our social and medical systems work so hold your tongue.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/07/2017 20:08

There's a article on there from a mum whose daughter is suspected to have the same disease as Charlie but until it's proven how is it helping?

That and won't be the same strain anyway surley. Probably means well but more false hope in a way.

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 20:08

Thanks for posting that! Well hope they keep that conversation. At least.

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2017 20:08

I almost wish you hadn't posted that, Ellie ..

"You negative people probably work at that death camp aka gosh?"

Words fail me Shock

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 20:11

They keep saying the same disease but often it is mito but a different form. Charlie's is a severe brain damaging kind and there are others more damaging to muscles and of different severities. I even saw an article about a little girl who had recovered from 'suspected mito' in the papers and this was being written about with regard to this case, however she wasn't even diagnosed or tested, that's how daft the press have been at times.

It's good to see the replies though and it made the mad stuff seem more bizarre (in Ellie's post)

Alabama I had a reply from CitizenGo saying the email had been sent out to several people in error and I have not been included on the petition and my data has been compromised.
As DD said 'Do you buy that?'
