Yes going to stop looking a FB, it is making me feel too upset, especially the abuse about the hospital etc.

When you research something it has to pass a peer group thorough examination which involves reconstructing the research. It is only validated if several researchers come up with same findings. If it does its published

Not correct, peer review does not mean validation through similar findings at all. And not all scientific papers are peer reviewed, depends how they are published.

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 09:05

I think at the court yesterday there was a comment about the stress it was putting the hospital staff under.

Charlie could be accompanied by a US doctor; no GMC registration needed.

Smartiepants79 · 11/07/2017 09:06

This should not have been alowed to get to this point.
There is no reliable 'new evidence. Anyone continuing to give hope to these distraught parents should be given a good shake.

The whole thing is utterly out of control and the outcome will be the same. This baby is not going to survive.
I listened to some idiot on radio 4 lats night going on about how charlie's life has the same worth as anyone elses - no one is disputing this fact.
That charlie has dignity right now - no he doesn't he's being used as a pawn.

We give our pets more dignity in death than this poor child.

Pop24 · 11/07/2017 09:06

hurtle

I dont think there is any new scientific evidence sadly. It's just that the voices of 6 new doctors have given backing (7 inc. U.S. Doctor) to the idea of the treatment having some success rate. Gosh has to explore these claims as they are clinicians who can't ignore claims of new evidence but their lawyer said yesterday that all of it was presented at the last trial. i cant understand how gosh and the parents have come to such disagreement on EVERYTHING including the size of his head?! Surely that can be easily measured and measurements are not something you can interpret are they? I did sense the judge is losing a little patience with both sides actually for failing to find any common ground whatsoever.

Sirzy · 11/07/2017 09:07

I really feel for the staff caught up in this. The abuse they are getting in completely uncalled for and at the same time they are trying to do their fantastic work and look after not only Charlie but many other very poorly children

NormaSmuff · 11/07/2017 09:09

the parents need to provide head measurements as they say his head has grown but the hospital says it hasnt

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 09:09

So have these 6 doctors offered to treat him then?

OP posts:
Sirzy · 11/07/2017 09:10

To me from the photos released it looks like any "growth" is swelling rather than growth.

I remember when DS was on lifesupoort he became very puffy and swollen all over.

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 09:11

I hope the staff are being offered support to deal with it all.

I can't stop thinking about this case. I really do feel that guilt at the fact this is a genetic condition has really affected the way the parents have reacted. I speak as a parent who has passed on one, possibly two genetic conditions to her children. Neither are life threatening but they certainly have daily implications for their everyday life. The guilt is always there. Mostly manageable but it blows up to epic proportions when there has been a difficult appointment, a bad day generally or a procedure that has caused your child pain. Imagine living with that feeling you get when you have accidentally bumped your child's head or trapped their finger everyday. Then, times it by a thousand or in, Connie and Chris's case a million. You have given your precious baby a disease that will kill them and nobody is letting you put it right. I am not saying this is rational thought but it's natural gut wrenching guilt and it is enough to drive you mad.

Pop24 · 11/07/2017 09:11

well it will come out soon. Someone is lying. I sense the judge is head in hands when he has to instruct to 'take a tape measure and measure the child's head'!

Butterymuffin · 11/07/2017 09:13

I was relieved to see the judge seems to want to get on with this quickly. Dragging things out will not help. The crux of the matter is to look at any new evidence. That should have been available in court yesterday.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 11/07/2017 09:14

I'm not surprised Tea Sad

The judge asked for hospital records of head measurements to be provided as it was a disputed point. GOSH's lawyer also said they'd brought it back to court as parents had handed in a letter on Friday threatening them with a judicial review.

LapinR0se · 11/07/2017 09:16

I honestly thought the judge did a fabulous job yesterday, he was extremely balanced and humane.
I should imagine he is finding this difficult too.

Ellie56 · 11/07/2017 09:16

Can someone with medical expertise explain the significance of the head not growing please? Is this more proof of the "catastrophic" brain damage or something else?

PurplePeppers · 11/07/2017 09:17

Who/what is CA with its FB page etc..?

Sorry completely clueless there.

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 09:17

I think the judge said every day goes on is not in the interests of the child, as he is suffering. Something to that point, anyway.

I don't think the FB comments will be helping the parents, they are full of comments fuelling the idea that GOSH are lying and things the parents should do (like measure the head, take notes of movements etc)

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 09:19

I am not a medic but have read about the specific type of condition Charlie has and it is associated with a small head size due to brain damage, microcephaly?

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 09:19

CA- "Charlie's Army" - a group formed to support the parents on Facebook. They have a USA group as well.

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 09:20

What is a judicial review?

OP posts:
Alittlepotofrosie · 11/07/2017 09:21

I was going to ask as well what is a judicial review and why would gosh be threatened by it?

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 11/07/2017 09:22

Charlie could be accompanied by a US doctor; no GMC registration needed.

That would still require the UK medics treating him to throw up their hands, step away and let something happen to their patient that they find futile, unethical and not in the patient's best interests though. To allow that to happen is probably equally unethical without a court order the recognises their position and directly overrules it.

alltouchedout · 11/07/2017 09:22

To be honest I am quite confused as to why it's still going on. I thought after the last hearing GOSH intended to withdraw life support quite quickly- they gave the parents a few extra days to allow family to visit as requested I know, but I don't really understand why life support wasn't withdrawn after that extra weekend?
