I wonder if the challenge in the courts to GOSH could have been done in camera (no reporting etc. allowed).

I don't know.

But while I understand (to an extent) the parents' wish for their child to live on, I do not like the circus maximus that this has become.

I think of parents who every day make these decisions out of the spotlight and are thoroughly heartbroken, but dignified. Sorry that's me.

Co1onelblimp · 10/07/2017 16:49

I lost sympathy for the parents a long time ago. They have turned their son' s suffering in to s media circus. They should let him die and end his suffering. Shame on themAngry

CaveMum · 10/07/2017 16:49

I've written and deleted several scathing responses to the CA fools on Twitter but have settled instead for reporting the most offensive ones.

There's a shocking pack mentality on there.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/07/2017 16:51

Breaking news from the courtroom. regarding Charlie Gard. The Judge has set a full hearing to decide Charlie's future this Thursday based on new evidence. A victory based on Great Ormond St. Hospital's request that a dismissal be granted. #IamCharlieGard

But it's not 'based on new evidence'. The judge has said that if there is new evidence, he wants to see it on Thursday.

Not the same thing #mendacious #shitforbrains

"This is why they need a PAID lawyer, one that's prepared to work through the night if needed! Those working for free leave the office at 5pm to go home!"

FFS. Barmy gets barmier

DarthMaiden · 10/07/2017 16:52

There are some awful allegations being made on twitter by people who clearly have no understanding of the facts.

There seems to be a de-facto assumption that GOSH are lying, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Some people are so caught up in the cause they have lost sight of what's at stake here.

It's like they've had a collective intellectual bypass and are immune to reason.

WannaBe · 10/07/2017 16:52

I realise that I will probably be flamed and/or deleted for what I'm about to say, but:

Why are social services not involved in removing parental responsibility from this family at this point. In the beginning, when there was some talk of a possible treatment, it was possible to see how the parents were being tortured by this and that as a parent, all they wanted was for their child to have the chance of survival. Now however the whole thing has turned into a circus with the parents driving it. And every time they open their mouthes on social media it becomes more and more apparent that they have actually lost sight of the fact that they had a child who is being kept alive in order to feed their own agenda which is to remain at the centre of this circus. And no, this isn't just about Charly's army driving it. If it was just the CA loons on fb they could easily be ignored and if the parents had allowed Charlie to slip away peacefully ten days ago the CA furorer would have died down by now and the loons would have moved on to different causes, and everyone would have agreed that it was incredibly difficult for the parents to go through what they had to go through.

But if Charlie was well and parents were causing his suffering through some means or other he would have been removed into care by now. IMO SS need to be involved now, and Charlie needs to be removed from these parents in order that the best can be done by him.

I have gone from thinking that there are actually no winners in this to having lost any sympathy I initially had for these parents, on the basis that they clearly have no thought for their own child, and are so busy courting the bloody pope and Donald Trump on social media that their child, you know, the one who they are supposed to be devastated over, has been completely lost in the midst of it all.

SilverLining17 · 10/07/2017 16:53

A few people on CA are saying they can't understand why there was no written evidence to back up what charlie's parents have said.
They will probably be deleted.

barkinginessex · 10/07/2017 16:53

These threads make uncomfortable reading (I know, I know, if you don't like it don't read it etc.).
I'm quite shocked that members of a parenting forum are speaking this way about Charlie's parents.
I disagree with the attacks on doctors and GOSH staff as they are amazing and don't deserve the vitriol.
However, can anyone honestly say that they wouldn't do the same in Charlie's parents position? They are DESPERATE Sad

Redglitter · 10/07/2017 16:54

Oh I've seen it all now. The barmy army are contacting Jeremy Kyle!!!! to arrange a drugs test to see what drugs they're giving Charlie

I've seen it all now Hmm

MidnightAura · 10/07/2017 16:54

I haven't read the Charlie's army page or Twitter. It would anger me too much. This poor baby is still suffering and they are not helping.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/07/2017 16:55

One of the hunz has posted this on CA FB

Charlie has shown no signs of pain according to his parents and if anyone has seen the pictures of him resting comfortably. Babies in pain scream there heads off. Any parent knows this. The morphine is a tool. Is is not being given for pain relief. Charlie should be on a mito cocktail and be getting appropriate therapies. This hospital should be very ashamed for neglecting his needs.

I. Have. No. Words.

sodablackcurrant · 10/07/2017 16:55

GOSH have to stay schtum. And that is a good thing, they are preserving the dignity of their patient and obviously clinical confidentiality.

Whereas, the other side can say what they like anywhere, to anyone.

Doesn't seem right to me anyway. If that is the way court cases go nowadays I am not happy one bit.

alltouchedout · 10/07/2017 16:56

Babies in pain scream there heads off. Any parent knows this.

Oh, dear god.

WannaBe · 10/07/2017 16:57

"However, can anyone honestly say that they wouldn't do the same in Charlie's parents position? They are DESPERATE" yes. There is absolutely no way any decent parent would allow this freak show to continue in the media spotlight.

Just because someone goes through a hard time doesn't make them a decent person.

TartanDMs · 10/07/2017 16:57

I think the parents are desperate and in denial. I don't think they are deliberately setting out to cause harm to their baby. But I think grief has affected their capacity for rational thought, and having the loons in CA supporting and validating their every move has not helped them. I do feel so sorry for them, but the focus has to be on this baby and the indignity and suffering he is experiencing while this goes on.

Yamayo · 10/07/2017 16:58

Has anyone neglected to inform this woman that poor Charlie is incapable of crying... or moving... and that he is not 'resting' but is in fact unresponsive?

sodablackcurrant · 10/07/2017 16:58

@WannaBe

Very well said.

Ward of Court might be an option, and should be taken soon, because this is turning into ugly now.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/07/2017 16:58

I think it's important we remember that these are people whose baby boy is dying. They can't accept the reality of the situation, they are desperate, and their desperation is resulting in actions which are very hard to understand and which I don't believe are in their son's best interests

I agree, but then by the same token I honestly don't think this is in the parents' interests any more either; it concerns me that they're only damaging themselves further and making their eventual recovery that much harder

As I said above, what really worries me now is if they're able to find some fool to back their "10%" thing so as to drag this out yet further. No doubt their lawyer is on to this right now ... if they haven't already dismissed him of course

Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 16:59

BoreOfWhabylon, I saw that, she is the women who claims to be a Mito expert.

Laiste · 10/07/2017 17:00

Jeremy Kyle. Jeremy Kyle?

Woah. CA are bringing out the big guns then Hmm

It would be funny if it weren't so tragic all round.

ShatnersWig · 10/07/2017 17:00

Barking There have been parents on this forum in the same position but with a different condition. They have said they did not nor would not behave in this way

Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 17:01

wannabe I agree with you, having a sick child does not turn you in to an untouchable saint. It's dangerous if people feel that they can't speak out on behalf of the child.

sodablackcurrant · 10/07/2017 17:01

Those parents who have the dreadful decision to turn off their child's life support now are obviously not on FB or social media or here.

But they may be in time. And my god I am sure they will be raging at the dying of the light for their child. But were very dignified at the time without publicity and all the rest of it.

My heart goes out to them, and several children have passed in this way as we speak without any fanfare.

nauticant · 10/07/2017 17:01

I don't think GOSH had any choice but to go to court. Not just on legal grounds but this has turned into such a PR, media, and political circus that they had to show a complete openness to anything new.

But it would seem that in preparing to go to court they've realised that they can use the court hearings to put information into the public domain that they are otherwise obliged to keep confidential or otherwise not be able to say.
