Friend insulting my interior design (lack of) skills

In need of a vent, hot weather and bitches don't mix :P

I've recently done my DS bedroom bright and colourful marvel themed bedroom, and he absolutely LOVES it, which is the only thing I care about, as it's HIS room.

Without boasting its what I imagine is many little boys dream room & looks great. Plus we saved bloody hard to make it extra special for him.

My friend takes one foot into his new room (with her son, who is my sons friend) and honestly looks disgusted and does not try to hide her anguish.

"Why have you ruined your house"
"you should have painted it grey with stars like my kids, so it looks classy

Her son on the other hand said it was the coolest room he had ever seen, which is a big thing when you have just heard your mother slag it off!!

I searched Pinterest etc a lot when designing his room & noticed a grey/monochrome trend for kids rooms, yes they look lovely, but I'm sure if you gave most kids a choice they would not pick the scandi themed room! And you are not giving them any choice, and just giving them what you want. I'm not saying this is he case for all kids, of course some children actually want beautiful modern bedrooms.

Aibu to hate the trend, just let little kids have actual children's colourful rooms :(

Picture from Pinterest of what I mean x

Tell her monochrome is cool
It is great. Don't worry. I don't know what there is to be upset about this room though. I was expecting something horrendous from your description.

Cloudyapples · 07/07/2017 20:58

I think that kind of design is really classy and would love MY room to look like that op. Ignore her, she's just jealous.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 07/07/2017 20:58

Your friend is a bitch ! But some old friends can be blunt

So what ?

I also did a Room decor to theme with a certain toy character (its tasteful though Grin)

zeebeedee · 07/07/2017 20:59

Everyone has different tastes, and that's a good thing.

It's OK for your friend not to like it, it's not OK for her to be rude.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 07/07/2017 20:59

ERM OP room is NOT that nice scandi room GrinGrinGrin

don't complement it

YouTheCat · 07/07/2017 21:00

So the picture is of what your friend thinks it should be like?

It looks so soulless and boring. It'd have mucky fingerprints all over in no time and look crap after 2 months.

ThePinkOcelot · 07/07/2017 21:00

It looks lovely OP!

ThePinkOcelot · 07/07/2017 21:01

Ahh sorry, not your room.

teaandtoast · 07/07/2017 21:01

Your ds' room sounds cool. Not a fan of monochrome for little kids.

mando12345 · 07/07/2017 21:01

She was very rude, just ignore her. It's your son he loves his room And I'm sure his friends will love playing there too.

Gingernaut · 07/07/2017 21:02

It's your child's room, he loves it and his little mate does too.

Only his opinion matters imho.

ShowMeWhatYouGot · 07/07/2017 21:03

Yes all children's rooms should look like the above picture apparently lol

Don't get me wrong I'd love that type of design for my Office, but I just don't think my son would like it! their only young once, when else can they have a giant man on their wall and not be called a weirdo! :P

OkapiCarrot · 07/07/2017 21:03

Oh OP, I feel you might get a lot of posters complementing that picture as they don't read the whole post...

The one you posted is a nice room, for an older child. What you describe sounds perfect for a little boy! And what higher praise could you want from his friend ;)

Your friend is rude. The room looks lovely, your DS loves it that's what counts

YouMakeMeFeelLikeDancing · 07/07/2017 21:31

It is great. I was expecting something horrendous from your description

The pic is how she DOESN'T want the room to look like. OP, I LOVE colour and most kids do too, ignore your "friend"

Butterymuffin · 07/07/2017 21:33

I'd like the room in the photo. I know for a fact though my DS would much rather have a Marvel room.

Yika · 07/07/2017 21:37

I also like the room in the photo, but your friend is really rude and I think it's great that you've decorated it the way HE wants it! It's a great feeling for a kid to have their own space that really suits them.

CabbageLooking · 07/07/2017 21:40

Your son loves it. His mate loves it. Everything else is immaterial. Now post a picture of HIS room!

AdalindSchade · 07/07/2017 21:42

The room in the picture is lovely, but not for a little kid. Marvel wall stickers are much more up their street even if not 'classy'

AmysTiara · 07/07/2017 21:45

Your friend is rude. Kids want fun not classy.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/07/2017 21:48

The room in your photo is a load of soulless old bollox that people who spend too much time on pinterest inflict upon their children in the name of 'good taste' and 'design'.

Anyone that thinks that's a great room for a child or believes it will remain picture perfect for more than 10 seconds needs their fucking bumps read.

Morecoffeeurgently · 07/07/2017 21:48

Well the room your DS is in has been decorated to reflect the things that he loves and that are important to him. It's not a room in a showroom. There is NO right and wrong. Your friend likes what she likes and you and your son like what you like. Just as she wouldn't do her DSs room like you've done yours, you can't be expected to decorate in a way that meets her approval if it's not to your/your son's taste.

toffee1000 · 07/07/2017 21:48

Monotone rooms for kids sound boring and a bit miserable IMO. As long as your DS likes it that's all that matters.

crazypenguinlady · 07/07/2017 21:50

Your friend is rude.

Me and DP are already planning on decorating our son's room with a Marvel theme when he's older. I like them (Thor!) and DP LOVES it all hes a geek DS is only 4 months old though so plenty of time yet Grin I have birth to him wearing a Batman top!

I think you have excellent taste. Please post a pic of your son's actual Marvel room, I want to see how cool it is!
