To really dislike Andy Murray?

I just can't warm to him, I've really tried but I just can't. I don't want him to win Wimbledon. AIBU and unpatriotic?

He's an excellent tennis player I've heard Wink

Welshwabbit · 07/07/2017 20:58

I actually think Andy Murray is really quite funny. And I love watching him, especially when he wins like, er, just now. Also a massive Rafa fan so my loyalty is generally torn.

SidesofFeet · 07/07/2017 20:58

Totally agree with you! Sometimes I try to warm to him a little then he has a tantrum and I dislike him even more than previously. Always want his opponent to win whoever it is.

millymae · 07/07/2017 20:59

There's no rule that says you have to like him OP. If we all liked the same people we'd be in a sorry state. Me, I like him and I like him even more after watching the match he's just played.

Sittinginthesun · 07/07/2017 20:59

Those last few games were quite impressive, mind you. Give him that.

Anatidae · 07/07/2017 20:59

Apparently he's really a decent bloke (family in Dunblane and Braco know him, I've never met him.)

He's of the dour Scot mould though. I think if you're not familiar with that personality type it can seem a bit closed off.

sweetkitty · 07/07/2017 20:59

I love him and he's not afraid to take the mickey out himself.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 07/07/2017 20:59

I've hardly been rude about him have I?

Well he's won his match, he played well and I enjoyed watching it, but I still have zero interest in hearing his interview afterwards.

I never said I don't like how he sounds.

I am a big tennis fan and I really like Andy but I respect your right to not like him.

I do wish though that people wouldn't keep calling him arrogant and miserable. I have seen and heard him making jokes, laughing etc but not, obviously, when he is playing tennis. Is he meant to run round the tennis court grinning like a Cheshire cat?

Does it really matter though whether the public like him or not though? He is a great tennis player that as well as winning championships has won an Olympic Gold.

I'll never like him as much as I liked Bjorn Borg though!

I have been known to share the last train home from Glasgow with JM and her friends, and they always seem to be having a great laugh! She really doesn't take herself seriously at all. As for Andy, I love Jos work ethic, his feminism and how he doesn't have a "Hello! Magazine" mentality.

Gemini69 · 07/07/2017 21:00

WELL DONE ANDY.... Brilliant Game x

BreezyBreeze · 07/07/2017 21:00

Seriously though when you're that talented, hard working, dedicated, committed and phenomenal at sport you don't need to be sparkly too.

I think he's great.

sodabreadjam · 07/07/2017 21:00

That's him won again OP. You will just have to torture yourself by watching him again and posting how much you can't stand him.

Out of interest, why would you want Federer to win?

MyGastIsFlabbered · 07/07/2017 21:03

Believe me I've learnt my lesson soda I will only post Andy love from now on.

I ❤️AM

I loo him. It sounds like he loves his wife and family loads; even if he is dour. He reminds me of my husband who is not at all smiley and friendly but is the kindest most generous man. Also think Judy is great

TryHarderWillis · 07/07/2017 21:03

I want nadal to win because I fancy him.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 07/07/2017 21:04

As a human, I like him fine. He's quite dry witted and I think his wife Kim is quite cool. I also like his mum! Don't know why, I just love her.

However, I hate the braying Brit mob at Wimbledon, though. I see it every year and it sometimes makes me want the British player to lose a bit Blush. Very irrational of me of course. I felt exactly the same when Tim Henman used to play. It's just a bit loathsome in a one on one (or two on two) sport. It's different if you LOVE tennis and follow the sport, but I sometimes think people just go along because want to cheer on the Brit, because he's a Brit, rather than the player, which just seems a bit off to me in tennis. Works better in team sports. Just my opinion.

BuzzKillington · 07/07/2017 21:05

We've just had this conversation.

Ds and I hate Andy Murray and always want him to lose - dh loves him, though I cant see why.

Love Federer though.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 07/07/2017 21:05

I want nadal to win because I fancy him.

I felt that way about Marat Safin.

Unfortunately he didn't oblige me as much as Nadal does.

Huckleshmuckle · 07/07/2017 21:06

I have no strong feelings about Andy Murray one way or the other.

Bradley Wiggins on the other hand........cannot stand the sight of him. He's in some TV ad at the moment and I always scramble to switch it off. Smuggest man in Smuggsville.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 07/07/2017 21:06

I can't put my finger on what I dislike about him (except I don't now I luffs him)

He just comes across that he doesn't really enjoy playing tennis that much, which is ridiculous, you wouldn't train to be as good as he is if you didn't love it.

He might be a man of few words, but he certainly isnt a man of few emotions judging from that BBC clip
