To really dislike Andy Murray?

I just can't warm to him, I've really tried but I just can't. I don't want him to win Wimbledon. AIBU and unpatriotic?

I don't give a toss about tennis but I do find him very droll and he makes me laugh.
On twitter I remember someone asking him, "How do you pronounce Murray?" and he replied, "Murray".

Eee I'm laughing now. I think he's funny.

TrinityTaylor · 07/07/2017 21:17

I don't get the reasoning that him being in Dunblane means every single person has to like him as a sporting personality, sorry

Lots of famous people have had traumatic things happen. Kim Kardashian was held at gunpoint tied up and robbed. Doesn't stop most ppl slagging her off.

Huckleshmuckle · 07/07/2017 21:18

Tomic deserves to be fined and banned and I'm pleased he had his racquet sponsorship dropped. He brought the game into disrepute.

It seemed so.....un-tennis like. Even the grumpy ones are generally always respectful of the game itself and the various tournaments.

TrinityTaylor · 07/07/2017 21:18

Op you are not being u

Murray is a boiled spud

MyGastIsFlabbered · 07/07/2017 21:19

Part of the reason I started this thread is that I don't understand why he invokes such a strong feeling of dislike in me...hence my saying I've tried to warm to him but I can't.

Of course it's unreasonable to dislike someone for no reason, especially someone whose tennis I enjoy watching, but it's how I feel and I don't have a clue why.

Yanbu, we are all entitled to take a dislike to someone in the public eye. In fact if i was to do a list of who I dislike i'd be here all night. I actually think i hate more celebs than i like, (obviously not literally "hate") most of them annoy me.

2014newme · 07/07/2017 21:20

Horrific what happened to him and his brother in Dunblane. He has survivors syndrome that's what drives him.
Have a heart op.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 07/07/2017 21:20

Also Jo Wilfried. He is the definition of a MAN. FUCKING GORGEOUS

Yes, I would not put him out on a cold, dark night either.

Or Feliciano Lopez.

Or Fernando Verdasco despite what they were implying about him

TrinityTaylor · 07/07/2017 21:20

Tomic and his pal (Kyrgios) are utter twats, as is that Medvedev throwing coins. I'm all for a bit of personality but they're just twats.

pictish · 07/07/2017 21:21

He's quite without charisma...but he's a tennis player, he's not a TV presenter or social commentator.

buggerthebotox · 07/07/2017 21:22

I think another thing about AM is that he never came across as an underdog (imho) and maybe us Brits would prefer someone less dour and more obviously "humble" such as Tim Henman? even if Henman never actually won much

histinyhandsarefrozen · 07/07/2017 21:22

I find his lack of 'charisma' really attractive.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 07/07/2017 21:22

Fucking hell, I think I prefer MyGastIsFlabbered's honest dislike of AM to all these armchair diagnosis' of Asperger's/Survivor's Syndrome/Snowflake Syndrome. Shock

histinyhandsarefrozen · 07/07/2017 21:23

Oh god, not henman Grin

Corcory · 07/07/2017 21:23

I like his ordinariness. Like a couple of Christmases ago how he posted a photo of him and his brother at their gran's sitting in 1950's dinning chairs - in the sitting room coz they are the only chairs left - with their xmas jumpers on with dead pan faces just like any other grandsons would be.

TrinityTaylor · 07/07/2017 21:23

Yes I do see that side of the argument

But I like my tennis players charismatic and topless

Rudi44 · 07/07/2017 21:23

I think he is probably a bit shy. He isn't wildly charismatic but he doesn't need to be, he's a sportsman not a stand up comedian. He hasn't done anything on or off the court to make me dislike him. His mum irritates me a little but I think he's ok

limitedperiodonly · 07/07/2017 21:23

There was some spoilt brat Australia tennis player the other day who said in his post match interview that he was bored and didn't really want to be there. I thought 'you're a twat'.

Why? Bernard Tomic doesn't owe anything to you. I have a lot of sympathy. The international tennis circuit is incredibly punishing and I can see how someone might get trapped on that treadmill from childhood by being talented and encouraged by zealous parents and absolutely hating it but not knowing any other life or how to make it stop.

I see the same thing in Tomic's fellow Australian Nick Kyrgios and there are countless others.

I can see how tennis, of all sports, can be completely joyless even if your heart is in it. And I don't think the potential rewards ever make up for being unhappy

MyGastIsFlabbered · 07/07/2017 21:24

I'm ashamed to say it, but I'm sure I'd like him a lot more if he were a bit easier on the eye but I KNOW I'm completely out of order to think this.

ANYTHING BUT HENMAN

MyGastIsFlabbered · 07/07/2017 21:25

Heyyy it's my thread no Tim hating here

jobergamot · 07/07/2017 21:25

Seriously, I think the Dunblane thing is a key to his personality. Definitely had a massive impact on his mother, and so, ultimately on him. I think 2014newme is right, 'survivor syndrome'.

The80sweregreat · 07/07/2017 21:27

He has grown on me from his early days.
We all are a little bit arrogant when we're young. We all make mistakes and say the wrong thing, he wasnt good with the media at first, but we all live and learn. He seems alright now and actually funny.
I do take against people ive never met, i dont like Federer much but been told he is lovely and he is a true tennis legend. Its the price of fame i guess. We cant all like the same people!

Ladydeb · 07/07/2017 21:27

I like him. He's a tennis player not a media star. The interviewers usually ask particularly inane questions when he's just come off court after a gruelling match. No wonder he doesn't seem enthused.

Huckleshmuckle · 07/07/2017 21:28

I'd forgotten about Henman. I was going to say he is the Cliff Richard of the tennis world, but I forgot Mr Cliff Richard himself already holds that title 😀
