Tiramisu...

(Lighthearted)

Aibu to think the tiramisu is the best dessert in the planet by miles? All that yummy squishy goodness, the marscapone, the shot of coffee, the taste of alcohol....

My family think I am strange. My mum said "we didn't raise you to like things like tiramisu". I think she thinks I have ideas above my station....
We were bought up on neon food - fishfingers, chips and angel delight. Grin

In my 36 years on the planet I have only ever met one other who likes this manna, this taste from heaven. Conversely, she was Italian.

Any things you like and find yourself in the minority?

(Just at specialist waiting room and bored Grin )

Dude - it's 800g! Lasts me from a Friday until a Monday and is still fresh. Eating the last two slices as I type this. The fool though, mmmmm.

Squoosh - I know! He was a carpenter and had about twelve sisters if I recall, all of them married to fellas named John Grin. British men just don't cut it for me...it's that "oh would you mind awfully if I..." lol (generalising in a light hearted way before anyone takes offence) maybe a move back is on the cards?? Anyway looking forward to going back for a week :) I shall keep you all updated on my tiramisu / ice cream hunt!

Oh and I'm also in Amsterdam in December, so tiramisu recommendations welcome Grin

I obviously wasn't paying enough attention when I ordered - got a 400g loaf. Oh well, at least it will last him the week.

Forget Amsterdam and go to Rome. Honestly! You won't regret it!!!!!

curragh · 10/07/2017 18:13

@isseywithcats google the avoca summer berry tiramisu recipe, ''tis fab and sounds similar to what you had in Paris.

Mollie85 · 10/07/2017 18:35

Cute ahh - thank you for reminding me of avoca- I can see a delicious carrot cake in my immediate future. If I can get a table Grin

Dude - already bought and paid for. Rome next year perhaps ?

I love it. I could live on it. It is delicious!!! I hate it when weirdos grate orange rind on it.

BoldKitties · 11/07/2017 00:58

Last time I flirted and kissed outside the pub like a couple of teenagers not people in our thirties with a bearded gentleman named Gerard from Tullamore. Sounds fantastic Mollie! Hope this visit is equally enjoyable Wink.

It's such an Irish man's name. Don't think I've ever met a British Gerard. Haha, squoosh, I've got a brother in law, an uncle, two cousins, an old family friend, and several friends named Gerard (I'm Irish, of course). Never shifted one though. Now I feel like I've missed out!

BarbaraofSeville · 11/07/2017 08:29

Just coming on to say that I second the recommendation for Nigella's Irish Cream Tirimisu mentioned up thread. I make it every Christmas and every time I buy marscapone and forget why I've bought it.

The Deluxe one in Lidl looks nice, but I haven't bought it yet to check and not sure if Lidl has made it to Guernsey for the OP.

isseywithcats · 11/07/2017 12:35

curragh thank you will look it up it was fab lighter than the coffee version

Mollie85 · 11/07/2017 16:41

Sadly we do not have a Lidl :( I believe there are some in France tho and I am skipping over this weekend ... Grin

For the Irish peeps, is Lidl the same as the Spar - do love the Spar 😁

blackteasplease · 11/07/2017 16:42

It's lovely. Of course it is.

blackteasplease · 11/07/2017 16:43

Creme brulee is my other favourite. Or any cheesecake. If you can include booze in the recipe so much the better.

RoboticSealpup · 11/07/2017 17:21

Yabu. Tiramisu is gross. Eton mess is the shit.

n0ne · 11/07/2017 17:51

Nah, OP, Lidl is German, Spar is Dutch

BoldKitties · 12/07/2017 01:16

Spar is a convenience store (though the big Eurospar shops are more like Supermarkets. They are everywhere here, even Carrickstown has one (that's the made up Dublin suburb in the superbly awful Irish soap Fair City, for the not Irish posters Grin). Lidl is like Aldi, but with a savage in-store bakery. Gorgeous boules and chocolate doughnuts. Though the doughnuts are not a patch on those from The Rolling Doughnut hatch on O'Connell Street. There's another one to add to your list, Mollie Wink.

Mollie85 · 12/07/2017 16:18

Licks pencil, makes notes.

I'm heading off a size 14 but coming back a 22 aren't I? I'll regret nothing.

I miss the Dublin Spars. UK Spars are just grubby little shops. Irish Spars are cornucopias of pastries and deli counters.

Mollie85 · 12/07/2017 22:49

It's only the Dublin Spars I've been to - used to use it as my main shopper when I lived in D3 Grin. Oh god. I've just remembered pink Kimberley biscuits and Cadbury mint crisps....

I must stop.

BarbaraofSeville
not sure if Lidl has made it to Guernsey for the OP

No Lidl in Guernsey.

BoldKitties · 13/07/2017 01:45

Yeah, and Spars in Dublin are even better now. Some open 24 hours. The one on the corner of Dame St and Georges St has a massive hot food counter. I'm pretty sure they have a noodle station, pizza, etc, alongside the usual deli counter staples like sausage rolls and chicken fillet baguettes. The Spar near me does a carvery every day, curries, etc, so I'd hazard a guess that the one on Dame St does too.

Yeah Mollie, you must pay the Rolling Doughnut a visit. It's heaven. There's loads of trendy doughnut places in Dublin now, like Aungier Danger, or Off Beat. The kind of places that do giant American style doughnuts with icing and custard filling, etc. The Rolling Doughnut even have a shop like this now, on Bachelor's Walk. For me though, the only doughnuts worth having are the old school small-ish ring doughnuts from the original Rolling Doughnut hatch on O'Connell Street, hot and tossed in sugar, for a few quid for a bag of six. So simple, but fecking gorgeous.

And I realise that I have mentioned that particular place so many times that I must sound like I work for them BlushGrin. I honestly don't, just love their doughnuts!

Mollie85 · 13/07/2017 06:42

Well only six weeks to go!! RYANAIR do the seatbelt extension don't they? For the trip back I mean.... Grin

Pregnant. Bloody love tiramisu. Bloody hate this thread!

Now craving tiramisu. Off to find an alcohol-free recipe...

Scrowy · 13/07/2017 09:52

Err I ate a tonne of shop bought tiramisu when pregnant. They let children buy it from supermarkets it's not age restricted so I'm pretty sure the amount of real alcohol in it is minimal (most of it is alcohol flavouring)

If you want it... have it. Grin

UpsidedownEighteen · 13/07/2017 09:56

A perfect tiramisu is rare, but when you get one, it's almost as good as a decent shag.
