Tiramisu...

(Lighthearted)

Aibu to think the tiramisu is the best dessert in the planet by miles? All that yummy squishy goodness, the marscapone, the shot of coffee, the taste of alcohol....

My family think I am strange. My mum said "we didn't raise you to like things like tiramisu". I think she thinks I have ideas above my station....
We were bought up on neon food - fishfingers, chips and angel delight. Grin

In my 36 years on the planet I have only ever met one other who likes this manna, this taste from heaven. Conversely, she was Italian.

Any things you like and find yourself in the minority?

(Just at specialist waiting room and bored Grin )

Sadly no - you get to bet on them though ...

Grin thank you - we are coming back to Guernsey in the evening and doing the "posh meal" thing. Thankfully not a blow up Willy, L plate or flashing headband in sight. Bride has been very clear on that Grin

You know who does an amazing Tiramisu? Poundland.
I admit, I judged when DH came in with them, but bloody hell as far as bought ones go they are amazing.

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:55

Marsala chicken sounds divine...

Dp brought back a Lidl (or Aldi, can't remember) one a few weeks back. It's a shelf rather than fridge one, so I've been dubious about trying it, but if the Poundland one is ok then perhaps it worth trying.....

(And before you ask, Lidl and Aldi are also 100 miles away!)

Sounds quite easy to make zabaglione

Sqoosh.. really?! Shit.
It's like when an ex told me my warm hands were because I had a cold heart....

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 05/07/2017 20:04

Oh, and shame you don't get to ride the sheep. That would be an experience, me thinks! Bet the sheep are pleased, though!

TheSlowLoris · 05/07/2017 20:05

I love it! It's my favourite dessert.

However I am quite fussy about it and I hate the version my MIL makes with orange peel in it. It all kinds of wrong.

squoosh · 05/07/2017 20:05

I've tried the Lidl tiramisu cake. It's underwhelming. Not wet enough!

RedStripeIassie · 05/07/2017 20:05

sisters I did not know this.

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 20:07

Orange peel? What kind of fresh Hell....

I know....

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 05/07/2017 20:10

sqoosh - thanks for the heads-up. Shall keep hidden or else serve it all up to DP. It doesn't sound as if it's worth breaking my diet for.

Deploycharitygoats · 05/07/2017 20:14

God I love tiramisu. I have made it only once, I was too impatient to let the coffee cool properly and the mascarpone deliciousness melted somewhat. Tiramisoup is not so great Sad

Katietwinmum · 05/07/2017 20:17

Love Tiramisu- if you find yourself in Glasgow there is an Italian restaurant in Hope Street that does an excellent example - order it every time

BadToTheBone · 05/07/2017 20:24

Mmmm tiramisu, lovely!

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 20:27

Thanks for the heads up. I'm in Dublin in 7 weeks so will attempt to find the place. Also in Amsterdam for Christmas and have already Googled Italian restaurants 😁

I LOVE tiramisu. DH laughs at my extreme 80s throwbackness whenever I order it.

I do love coffee though. I bought a bottle of kahlua to make espresso martinis recently and now there's only half a bottle left and I haven't made a single martini Blush

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/07/2017 20:29

Nigella's Irish Cream Tiramisu is seriously to die for. Try it, you won't be sorry... Smile

TheSlowLoris · 05/07/2017 20:29

Most tiramisu is disappointing as it doesn't live up to the one I had on holiday a few years back.

LBOCS2 · 05/07/2017 20:30

I had a surprisingly amazing fruit and banana tiramisu in Lucca many years ago. I haven't attempted to recreate it, I wouldn't even know where to start. But it was delicious.

squoosh · 05/07/2017 20:31

katietwinmum ooh which restaurant on Hope St? Is it Pulcinella?

And OP if you find out which Dublin restaurant it is can you let me know? I'd like to try it next time I'm home!

Katietwinmum · 05/07/2017 20:44

La Lanterna- very near the side door to central station. It's a blink and you'd miss it place on the street but you go downstairs into Italy! They have won so many awards its ridiculous. Have the tornedos rossini too Wine

SabineUndine · 05/07/2017 20:50

There is a line in Last of the Summer Wine' where Edie tells Brenda You don't want to go looking in boutiques. You were brought up Co-op'. Very funny. Less so IRL. I'm more on the profiteroles side myself but there's nowt wrong with tiramisu.
