Tiramisu...

(Lighthearted)

Aibu to think the tiramisu is the best dessert in the planet by miles? All that yummy squishy goodness, the marscapone, the shot of coffee, the taste of alcohol....

My family think I am strange. My mum said "we didn't raise you to like things like tiramisu". I think she thinks I have ideas above my station....
We were bought up on neon food - fishfingers, chips and angel delight. Grin

In my 36 years on the planet I have only ever met one other who likes this manna, this taste from heaven. Conversely, she was Italian.

Any things you like and find yourself in the minority?

(Just at specialist waiting room and bored Grin )

@DudeHatesHisCarryOut these are chilled, our 'big' poundland has a chiller section with sandwiches etc and they are in there.
Oh God I could murder for one now.

La Lanterna- very near the side door to central station.

Ah I think I know where you mean. Is it next door to that dodgy little pub that looks a bit like an Alpine chalet?

Thanks for the recommendation, looking forward to paying them a visit! 🍷🍮

orange in a tiramisu...wrong wrong wrong!

make very strong coffee, cool with equal amount of amaretto (or alcohol of choice...you may need a splidge of sugar if you use hard liquor!)

whip up mascarpone, add a little double cream or cremfraiche if you like an edge (about one third to half cream to mascarpone) Add enough coffee/alcohol to make mascarpone that gorgeous silk knick tan colour

then you have to roll up your sleeves and get a move on...swish the savoiiardi biscuits in the coffee, set them in your dish and layer on the cream mix. I do sometimes put a shake of cocoa on each layer but i usually save it for th etop

you want at least three layers of savoiiardi and finish with the cream and then slather on the best cocoa or at a pinch grated ark chocolate you can find

and ideally it wants at least 6 hours in the fridge to make peak solidity.

Are you the sort to serve up Vienetta to guests though? Grin

Thanks for the recipe

Good! I wouldn't trust the recipe of someone who referred to knicks 😄

Pear drops make me cough too, hard to explain but if I breathe I while sucking one it makes me catch my breath.

LOVE LOVE LOVE tiramisu!! Also salted caramel desserts. Heaven

testing123testing123 · 05/07/2017 21:13

Oh jeez... It would be a real toss up between tiramisu, sticky toffee pudding, panna cotta and retro classic crepes suzette (sp?) for me!

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 21:16

Ethyl acetate (an ether) apparently cats whiskers - I googled it before.

It's quite common by all accounts Envy

I adore it. I hate banoffee!

I'm filled with PMT and could devour anything but particularly a good hot crumble with ice-cream.

I shouldn't have read this thread today 😂

VeuveLilies · 05/07/2017 21:17

Don't Ike coffee
Don't like alcohol in desserts
So no, not really

Eolian · 05/07/2017 21:21

Tiramisu is nice. But you people need to learn to spell mascaRpone and limoncello. And I hope you're pronouncing 'tiramisu' with the stress on the 'su'. Sorry, I can't help it - I'm a languages teacher. Blush

Suzypoo10 · 05/07/2017 21:27

Love it! I first started making tiramisu about 35 years ago when my sister, who moved to Italy, got the recipe from her Italian MIL-to-be. At the time, nobody in the U.K. had ever heard of it and it was very difficult to get hold of mascarpone cheese. It becomes tiramisu (pick me up) when you add the alcohol, otherwise it is just mascarpone pudding. I have never had a "real" one here - there is usually too much sponge (the Italians use Pavesini biscuits - a crisper, lighter version of boudoir biscuits) and it shouldn't have cream in it. This is a recipe which is the same one I use: www.italyum.com/dessert-recipes/191-tiramis-classic-recipe14.html

SleightOfHand · 05/07/2017 21:28

Oops limoncello.
Yes, I stress the 'su', how else do people pronounce it then?

SleightOfHand · 05/07/2017 21:33

and surely it's just porn stars who say panties?!? I've just realised "pant liners" are actually sold as "panty liners", Panty wtf.

Botanicbaby · 05/07/2017 21:34

Love tiramisu, it was very popular in the 90s as a dessert.

I find most shop bought ones too sickly sweet, you can't beat home made!

Eolian · 05/07/2017 21:36

With the stress on the second 'i'. Which, to be fair, is the normal place where the stress would fall in Italian. kicks self for being boring and annoying pedant

Tondelaya - just even reading your description was delicious. I am mentally swishing the savoiiardi biscuits. Have you considered writing a cookery book?

squoosh · 05/07/2017 21:38

And I hope you're pronouncing 'tiramisu' with the stress on the 'su'.

Sorry Miss but I don't!

TwoDrifters · 05/07/2017 21:46

There is a deli near us which always has a huge tiramisu on display in the fridge and it looks sooo good but is sadly sooo disappointing when you order it.

Cheap cocoa on top (which makes you cough when you accidentally inhale it), and it's mostly just cream and sponge.

Can't taste the Marsala. Can't taste the coffee. Sad

TwoDrifters · 05/07/2017 21:48

And on that note…

Love tiramisu!

Scrowy · 05/07/2017 22:01

I had a tiramisu in a restaurant on Sunday. When I ordered it the waitress asked if I would like it with cream or icecream. Apparently my face was Hmm

Anyway I said cream and it duly came with a little pot of cream on the side. I donated it to DP to have with his cocolate pud!
