Tiramisu...

(Lighthearted)

Aibu to think the tiramisu is the best dessert in the planet by miles? All that yummy squishy goodness, the marscapone, the shot of coffee, the taste of alcohol....

My family think I am strange. My mum said "we didn't raise you to like things like tiramisu". I think she thinks I have ideas above my station....
We were bought up on neon food - fishfingers, chips and angel delight. Grin

In my 36 years on the planet I have only ever met one other who likes this manna, this taste from heaven. Conversely, she was Italian.

Any things you like and find yourself in the minority?

(Just at specialist waiting room and bored Grin )

I love tiramisu, but the coffee bit needs to be relatively mild/ not horribly bitter and with little/ no alcohol as I don't really drink and it tastes too strong.

Also, panna cotta is lovely if it doesn't have tons of sugar.

PidgeonSpray · 05/07/2017 18:43

It's my absolute favourite!!!

I'm 36 and half Italian

SleightOfHand · 05/07/2017 18:43

I've just finished tirimusu cake from M&S, was alright, wouldn't get it again though.

PidgeonSpray · 05/07/2017 18:43

I even had tiramisu tea yesterday Grin

Fuck I love tiramisu. It's pudding perfection Grin.

I hated them until my dh made me one (chef) and I was blown away

SomeOtherFuckers · 05/07/2017 18:48

It's okay but I prefer lemon meringue or sticky toffee - ooh or a creme Catalana

skyzumarubble · 05/07/2017 18:50

Hate it. Which is odd because I love all the components but together just no.

MagicMoneyTree · 05/07/2017 18:52

Never tried it. It just doesn't look very nice...

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 18:52

Sleight - I'm in Guernsey so we don't have Asda or Tesco or Sainsburys, etc. My choice is M&S, Co-op or Waitrose. I like the Co-Op one (they do a massive one at Christmas, which I definitely did not polish off on Boxing Day last year )

The best one I ever had was in a tiny little Italian cafe in Dublin once... can't remember the name. The lasagne was crap, but I'd move Heaven and Earth to eat that tiramisu again... Grin

On way to Co-Op, I shall update you all... Grin

I adore tiramisu but are Key Lime Pie or Mississippi Mud Pie even better?
😋❤️😋

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 18:53

Conversely I can't stand Panna Cotta or Creme Brûlée Hmm

I don't normally do desserts but tiramasu is fucking amazing.Cake

maitaimojito · 05/07/2017 18:54

Yes! But only good tiramisu. Supermarket versions don't cut it for me.

Every time I'm in Italy I'm on the hunt for the best tiramisu (and gelato and pizza). And then I wonder why I come home a stone heavier...

Oldraver · 05/07/2017 18:55

I love Tiramasu, even shop ones. Very few shop bought desserts are nice but Tiramisu is acceptable.

My all time fave is Lemon Meringue Pie still warm from the oven

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 05/07/2017 18:56

I like it, but generally only my own....shop ones are too pappy, not enough alcohol, (brandy and or amaretto) and flimsy coffee, and shitey drinking chocolate over the top and not a nice hard solid hit of proper cocoa, and often too fluffy/ light, I like a nice sturdy wodge of hefty mascarpone

I am quite fond of custardy puds....creme brulee/caramel/catalana...panacotta type things ....schluuurp!!

raspberrysuicide · 05/07/2017 18:56

A lovely Italian friend of mine taught me how to make proper authentic tiramisu.
It's out of this world delicious.

MrsChopper · 05/07/2017 18:57

Thanks, now I want Tiramisu Angry

Therealslimshady1 · 05/07/2017 18:57

Have you tried the Pizza Express one?

It is the best. They don't always have it.

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 18:57

I agreed the supermarket versions come a poor second, but I feel a bit odd sitting in an Italian restaurant on my own ordering a dessert Confused

Have diverted to Waitrose as road for Co-Op closed - may get one of their raspberry fruit fools whilst I'm there...

I'll never be slim again!! Grin

@mollie I had the best tiramisu in Venice on honeymoon. Genuinely would have died happy that night. Love the stuff so occaisionally I "forget" that DH isn't too keen so I can eat the whole pack myself.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 05/07/2017 18:58

I love tiramisu.

"we didn't raise you to like things like tiramisu."
Perhaps not, but against all odds you pulled through and developed excellent taste!

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 18:59

The real slim - no pizza express in Guernsey Confused

Tondelaya - send it over... Grin

Bobbie pin - that's the kind of thinking outside the box I enjoy

User - my mother thinks a vienetta is the height of sophistication. Mint if the guest is particularly special Grin

I also love viennetta

Me and my brother got arctic roll Confused

It is the best. My family tend to celebrate birthdays at Pizza Express, and the dates tend to fall on a Sunday. Therefore I partake in Tiramisunday.
