Tiramisu...

(Lighthearted)

Aibu to think the tiramisu is the best dessert in the planet by miles? All that yummy squishy goodness, the marscapone, the shot of coffee, the taste of alcohol....

My family think I am strange. My mum said "we didn't raise you to like things like tiramisu". I think she thinks I have ideas above my station....
We were bought up on neon food - fishfingers, chips and angel delight. Grin

In my 36 years on the planet I have only ever met one other who likes this manna, this taste from heaven. Conversely, she was Italian.

Any things you like and find yourself in the minority?

(Just at specialist waiting room and bored Grin )

Tiramisu... soggy cake. Oh yuck!

SleightOfHand · 05/07/2017 19:06

Oow, not tried the Waitrose one, I should give it a go. I don't do individual tirimusu, I always get the large ones and have all to myself

kel1234 · 05/07/2017 19:06

I hate it but then again I hate coffee. Lemon meringue pie is the best dessert ever

PeachHalves · 05/07/2017 19:07

Bobbiepin the first time I tried it was in Venice. Obvs haven't looked back...

Adelie0404 · 05/07/2017 19:07

I'm afraid my girls love Waitrose tiramisu - one of favourite desserts. Its actually quite cheap there!

CheshireChat · 05/07/2017 19:08

I want both vienetta and tiramisu now! I love vienetta simply because I remember my mum once bought it during the winter when I was a kid and I was amazed Wink. Mind, I also remember it was snowing outside.

But no to mint in desserts or coffee- yuck!

Littledinosaur · 05/07/2017 19:09

The Waitrose Essentials one is amazing Grin

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 05/07/2017 19:09

I'm with you, utterly sublime! Have you ever tried a Nutella one though? To die for (though you can't really eat too much at a time).

I presume you've tried the Co-Op's profiteroles? Another favourite of mine.

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:10

So they've run out...

I'm going home to cry. with a Gü chocolate melt in the middle dessert

gingercat02 · 05/07/2017 19:11

Yes you ABVVVU Tiramisu is boke (and I love coffee and cream and booze). Creme Brulee is the best dessert. The end!

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:11

Love the profiteroles- at Christmas it's either them or M&S who do the boozy ones!

I feel I'm far too invested in boozy desserts for my own good?

flownthecoopkiwi · 05/07/2017 19:13

another #TeamTiramisu here

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 05/07/2017 19:14

My favourite dessert ever! If someone could share a recipe for an amazing one I'd be very very grateful. As I can make one for 6 people and eat the whole lot myself Wink

AnnPerkins · 05/07/2017 19:15

Yep you're not wrong!

I learned in my Italian class last week that it means Lift Me Up Smile

Another strong contender for World's Best Pudding is Rhum Baba. But you don't see it around much nowadays. I need Nigella to make it trendy again.

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 05/07/2017 19:16

The Co-Op ones are definitely boozy.

They seem to sell them all year round now. Shame I'm now on a diet!!!!!

Am really quite jealous of your choice of shops btw. We only have the Co-Op here (Scottish Island). I'd die for a Waitrose or M&S!

lemureyes · 05/07/2017 19:16

I wish I could like coffee, I can't no matter how I have it, so we were not meant to be ☕
I have to say I do love my nan's ultra boozy trifle, made with sponge at the bottom not jelly.
I do love a good boozy dessert!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 05/07/2017 19:18

You are so not being unreasonable op!
Tiramisu is the best food in the world. Its even nicer home made - as I add extra amaretto so you'd probably not be OK to drive after a small bit!
Love it.

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:19

To derail my own thread Dude - things I'd love in order:

Starbucks
IKEA
Homebase
Sainsburys
Tesco
Any of the pizza places
Pizza Hut / Express
dominoes
The one with the Chicken that everyone raves about

I shan't go on Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 05/07/2017 19:19

100% agree.

dudsville · 05/07/2017 19:19

I love tiramisu ams my homemade version was my favourite but v hard to make it for 2. Left over homemade isn't nice!

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:21

KFC... Topshop.... River Island... ok ok I'll stop

The Gü is in the oven...

CigarsofthePharoahs · 05/07/2017 19:21

Damn it I'm supposed to be dieting!
I want pudding! I want tiramisu!

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 05/07/2017 19:23

Honestly, you can't complain. The only chains we have here are:

Co-Op
Post Office
Jewsons
Harbro

Nearest anything else is 100 miles away.

Ok, we can drive (have a bridge to the mainland) but still. And obviously we have independents, but it's not the same.

This thread has just reminded me that a friend can bring a Waitrose order up at the weekend so I'd best go and do that. Anything out of the ordinary you'd recommend?

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:27

Hahaha I've never heard of Jewsons or Harbro.
A lot of "non locals" on holiday are "oh it's so peaceful here you are so lucky" they then flip out at 10pm when they fancy a food delivery and realise there are none ... Grin

Waitrose - I love their nutty seedy bloomer and their raspberry fruit fools. Their sausages are also nice Grin

YADNBU

Bloody love the stuff. Tiramisu and gelato are the only decent Italian puds. Panacotta is dull.

The Waitrose Essentials (yes it most certainly in essential) one is the best I've tried from a supermarket. Only about £2 and even better if you don't have to share.

(Don't diss creme brûlée though)
