Tiramisu...

(Lighthearted)

Aibu to think the tiramisu is the best dessert in the planet by miles? All that yummy squishy goodness, the marscapone, the shot of coffee, the taste of alcohol....

My family think I am strange. My mum said "we didn't raise you to like things like tiramisu". I think she thinks I have ideas above my station....
We were bought up on neon food - fishfingers, chips and angel delight. Grin

In my 36 years on the planet I have only ever met one other who likes this manna, this taste from heaven. Conversely, she was Italian.

Any things you like and find yourself in the minority?

(Just at specialist waiting room and bored Grin )

Jewson's the builders merchants? I can't imagine their dessert selection is that great.

RedStripeIassie · 05/07/2017 19:31

What Jewsons do deserts?? Maybe free with a ton of cement?

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 05/07/2017 19:31

Great, shall put all the above on my list! (Like to add something out of the ordinary every time as it's such a treat!)

Not surprised re Jewsons and Harbro. The first is a builders' merchant the other a farm shop sort of thing (sell feed, hay, clothing etc). Neither being your normal, run of the mill store! Mind you, both are handy in their way.

I'm from down south and it's always amusing telling people there that yes, going to the nearest Tesco / M&S / McDonald's etc realy does involve a 200 mile round trip!

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:36

Hahaha a plane trip for a Starbucks or Macdonalds is a bit miserable... but there are worse things to contend with Grin

The Gü is ok. It's most definitely not tiramisu, though Cake

Never tried gelato Squoosh - what flavour would you recommend? Grin

Don't say cement... Confused

Tiramisu is the most overrated dessert ever. It's disgusting.

TheCatsWhiskers · 05/07/2017 19:40

I'm not a massive pudding fan, but I love tiramisu.

But I'm allergic to something in it.

It's so unfair, why can't I be allergic to lemon tart, I hate that Grin

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 05/07/2017 19:42

Unfortunately no puddings at Jewsons! Just pointing out that this is the depths I have to go to to find a brand name here!

I remember visiting Guernsey many, many years ago. Lovely place. Fell in love with Sark but don't think I could live there.

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:42

Oh no cats - not good!

However, you just reminded me of something bizarre.

Whenever I eat pear drops (the hard sweets) I cough... is this a known thing?

I'm derailing my thread all over the place Grin

Sark is lovely - I'm over in three weeks for a hen party to watch the sheep racing.
No, that's not a joke Grin

Guernsey is lovely, just a bit far removed sometimes, but 'home' nonetheless Smile

Tiramisu is divine, as is trifle awash in sherry.

KurriKurri · 05/07/2017 19:45

I love Tiramisu - I once ate a family sized one from Sainsbury's, washed down with a bottle of wine (as background this degree of excess is not my norm - I was in a hotel room far from home and my marriage had just broken up. I remember that tiramisu fondly though - my X not so much Grin)

SloeGinRocks · 05/07/2017 19:45

100% with you OP. I bloody ❤️ tiramisu I do!

SloeGinRocks · 05/07/2017 19:46

I have also been known to eat a whole Sainsbury's one Kurri Blush

TheMysteriousJackelope · 05/07/2017 19:46

DD found a tiramisu mousse shot recipe on line that we use as an extremely quick and easy dessert,

Mix 8oz mascarpone with one cup of icing sugar.
Dissolve two teaspoons of instant coffee in about quarter a cup of boiling water.

Once the coffee mixture has cooled a bit, stir half of it into the mascarpone and sugar.
Divide the mixture between five to six little ramekins or bowls. Pour the rest of the coffee mixture over them.
Top with whipped cream and cocoa powder.

Obviously you could add alcohol to this as needed.

I have also altered the above to use cocoa powder to make a chocolate version and blended strawberries with the sugar to make a strawberry version.

thisismadness77 · 05/07/2017 19:47

I don't like damp puds. More of a cheeseboard kind of woman. :)

user1468353179 · 05/07/2017 19:48

I adore Tiramisu, it's my all time favourite

Argeles · 05/07/2017 19:49

Tiramisu is delicious!

If you haven't tried it already, you must try zabaglione - I love it and think you will too.

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:50

Kurri sorry about the x but good job on the tiramisu!
I ate the "serves 4" (actually I think it might even "serve 6" Blush )co-op one at Christmas. I didn't even put it in a bowl, just ate it with a dessert spoon whilst watching love actually

Fuck - I've just realised. I'm Bridget bloody Jones ... Grin

Thanks to poster for recipe - I'm far too lazy Wink

I don't like damp puds.

As Confucius once said 'only a person with a dead dry soul dislikes a lovely damp pud'

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 05/07/2017 19:51

Sheep racing sounds like fun! Do you get to ride them?

I loved the no-car aspect of Sark. So, so quiet.

Enjoy the Hen party!

Mollie85 · 05/07/2017 19:51

Argeles - is that the one with Marsala? I shall put it on my list

OP posts:
HeyRoly · 05/07/2017 19:53

My absolute favourite dessert. I love cream, I love coffee, I love booze. Perfect Grin

"We didn't raise you to like things like tiramisu". Hahaha!

NotMeNoNo · 05/07/2017 19:53

Ok please can I have raspberrysuicides recipe and Athomedad where in Pisa can you remember? We are going there on holiday and DH is a desperate tiramisu lover. BrewCakeFlowers

squoosh · 05/07/2017 19:53

It's always a good idea to have a bottle of Marsala in the cupboard. I put a dash in my carbonara (sorry Italy!) and I make a lovely Marsala chicken dish too.
