To not want to eat Mcd, drink while pg, and watch trash US TV shows

leftofcentre · 23/03/2007 04:06

After reading recent threads, I'm wondering where all the educated and informed people on here are?????

Who would like to agree that

1)Mcd suxs not just because of what they serve (because they are menu changing but also because they are a boring chain taking over the world and closing small business, pay minimum wages, make max profits, they are not a restaurant, where's the cutlery and table service, do i need to go on?

  1. Alcohol can harm a baby, and it's not really worth a risk, we shouldn't need to drink while pg

  2. Why does everyone's profile list trash US shows- Desperate Housewives, Lost, CSI, etc, etc

Rant over, anyone agree? ah just agree with me

Foxy - I think I'm only truly rude on the third point. Yes that was rude to critize people's shows, but you obviously don't take your children to Macd's for same reasons i don't.

Mac'd is a bit like quitting smoking, once your against it, you become very adament about it.

loc, don't you know what partially hydrogenated vegetable oil is?
Here is me thinking that you were Informed and Educated.

Gingerbear · 23/03/2007 13:49

See that Aloha - she is Informed and Educated she is.

Twinkie1 · 23/03/2007 13:50

Anyone for a fag dipped in partially hydrogenated rapeseed oil???

Aloha · 23/03/2007 13:51

Whoops - Omega 3 (not 2 which was a typo)

Gingerbear · 23/03/2007 13:52

My experience of Aussie Roadhouses is that they are full of greasy trans-fat laden meat pies and soggy chips, with expensive shops and dirty toilets. (A bit like UK motorway service stations)

Aloha · 23/03/2007 13:53

I think McDonalds as an organisation has really listened to consumers. Free range eggs are now used, organic milk is available, many changes have been made. Of course these changes have been made because otherwise the company would lose money because people wanted healthier options and the reputation of the company was being damaged, but improving the product to improve the image is a good thing, surely?

Gingerbear · 23/03/2007 13:53

And I realise I am making a sweeping generalised statement there.

leftofcentre · 23/03/2007 13:55

Aloha- what about old fashioned vegetable oil, that has been a round forever, Mcd won't use this because it is too expensive for them, I'm not sure I'd want to eat that scientific casnogenic rapeseed oil stuff.

yes I'd definately be packing dc meals if mcd was the only option.

Sorry are leftofcentre and uki the same person? Why keep changing names? I am confused now. Maybe I have got wrong end of stick but uki's post of 10:47 indicates that they are indeed one and the same.

Sorry if someone already said this...

Not had unpopped popcorn BTW but maybe worth a try .

leftofcentre · 23/03/2007 13:58

Twinkie- LOL very loud that really sums it up, and no thanks.

OP posts:
leftofcentre · 23/03/2007 14:02

Aloha- I'll eat that hydrogenerated fag, if you don't work for them, your really spining me out.

uki is my (nicer)alter ego, sorry but leftofcentre came out of the wrong side of the bed today. Even dh thinks I've lost it.

Twinkie1 · 23/03/2007 14:04

You are nuts have you really got 2 personalities you post as????

Are you like that guy on ER - oh sorry shite american show that you don't watch - he had lots of personalities some were nice and some were horrid!!

mytwocents · 23/03/2007 14:04

In Manhatten, the only place to go to a clean toilet for free is -yes- Mcd....

BandofMothers · 23/03/2007 14:06

Oh, Twinkie, wasn't that sad. His vulnerable personality was so sweet. Have you seen Sybil, with V young Sally Field???/
True story and truly scary

Aloha · 23/03/2007 14:07

You really aren't very educated or informed are you? What do you think 'vegetable' oil is? Something extracted from broccoli, perhaps? Vegetable oil is the generic term for oil blended from several plant sources, such as olive, rape, sunflower oil and corn oil. Of course rapeseed oil is vegetable oil. Just as sunflower oil is a vegetable oil. Rapeseed oil is derived from the seeds of a plant and "according to Richard Faulks, senior scientist at the Institute of Food Research, along with olive oil and walnut oil, rapeseed oil is one of the biggest sources of mono-unsaturated fats (better for the heart than saturated fats). It is also lower in saturated fats than olive oil or sunflower oil."

powder28 · 23/03/2007 14:09

Is avacado oil good for you? I bought some from sainsburys, i hadnt noticed it before

Aloha · 23/03/2007 14:10

Of course I don't work for them. This stuff is very easy to find out if you are remotely interested in doing so. If you are interested in nutrition I am very surprised you haven't educated yourself about it a little more.
And I do pity the child, labouring all day under the weight of three increasingly warm and inedible packed meals, while his unencumbered classmates eat a hamburger.

ShockedMyself · 23/03/2007 14:10

I see where leftofcentre is coming from.

McDonalds serves absolutely crap food though I must admit I do eat it on occassion. Having no choice but to eat there or Burger King when I am going up and down the motorways sickens me.

Drinking alcohol in pregnancy is WRONG. It is a poison and might harm your baby, temporarily or in the long term. I´ve also done this.

Trashy US TV shows make your mind go dead. Better avoid them as much as you can.

Just MHO.

Gingerbear · 23/03/2007 14:12

is shockedmyself yet another of loc/uki's split personalities?

expatinscotland · 23/03/2007 14:13

I had a very tasty lunch just now, thanks to LOC .

Not just one but two large fry orders that I added pepper and salt to and dunked in ketchup.

And now I'm sipping a coffee.

Mmmm.

Trivia: Forest Whitaker was originally awarded the role of Sawyer in 'Lost', but he turned it down to take on other projects including 'The Last King of Scotland'.

foxybrown · 23/03/2007 14:14

LOC, you were rude in the first sentence of your OP.

You were rude telling me to piss off.

I do not take my children to MacD's because:
a) its nothing special, so
b) they don't want to go
but mainly I strongly object to their marketing aimed at young children.

I'd be far more interested in your beef with MacDs if you didn't annoy me with your judgements of Mumsnetters in the first place. I don't like it when MN is used as a platform for slagging other MN'ers off. IMO it should be for support and information.

Gingerbear · 23/03/2007 14:14

Surely there are more health risks from eating warm 14 hour old sandwiches that have been lugged about on a coach trip than a fresh macdonald's meal?

ShockedMyself · 23/03/2007 14:14

Gingerbear, I´m definitely not part of a split personality!

hunkermunker · 23/03/2007 14:16

Why tf would trashy US shows make your mind go dead?

I hope they don't, I work on enough of 'em!
