To think it's inevitable that JC will be PM and TM should just let it happen ASAP

They are now pretty much at the same popularity and in the years to come there will be millions more Labour voters and millions of Tory voters that will pass away. It's pretty much a done deal right? So why doesn't TM just go now?

And a switch away from labour towards the tories may increase their number of seats.

Trouble is a lot of previous labour supporters don't like jc. People can and do switch away from labour. Look what happened in Mansfield.

People also see labour as having unfair policies sometimes.

IAmNotAWitch · 04/07/2017 09:23

Shrug, just a thought, it didn't seem like they campaigned very hard.

Given the hassle of Brexit I have to say I probably would have tried to get out of dealing with it, whilst of course not actually running away screaming.

thatdearoctopus · 04/07/2017 20:09

Did you miss the bit about it being a global financial crisis?

Of course not, but had Labour not wiped us out financially, we might have been in a better position to deal with it.

littlebillie · 04/07/2017 20:39

Wishful thinking thread rather like Labour's Money Tree wish list 😂

Guepe · 04/07/2017 20:44

I do think that if we had another GE this year, Corbyn would end up as PM (with support from other parties).

But that's precisely why I can't see another GE happening. The Tories will, understandably, do everything they can to stay in power.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 04/07/2017 21:29

Of course not, but had Labour not wiped us out financially, we might have been in a better position to deal with it.

We were doing fine before the bank bail out, but Brown had no choice but to do it, if the tories hadnt then started on austerity in 2010 we would be in a much better position than we currently are

FriendPlease · 04/07/2017 23:04

I don't understand the delusion that tories have somehow handled anything well in their time in government. Look at this country, it's a mess. And it's not about to change unless tories change their tactics and policies. TM has to go for starters, someone with more common sense and understanding of economics should step in. Who that is in the current tory party, I don't know.

Scandelicious · 04/07/2017 23:14

Op

I think you might find that the older population is increasing in the U.K.

JCs main vote is left wing activists and benefit scroungers and people who just vote labour come what may. Wouldn't be surprised to see a breakaway moderate labour group. He'll be 'proper fucked then' to quote Snatch

makeourfuture · 05/07/2017 06:18

Today's young radical is tomorrow's careful saver.

This is a false dichotomy. A method to divide.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 05/07/2017 07:22

Better than the Tories money tree they found for bribing the DUP littlebillie. I'd be very careful when mentioning money trees unless you want to look like a huge hypocrite.

strikealight · 05/07/2017 07:30

TM getting into bed with those scumbags doesn't make JC any less of a brown nose to scumbags.
We need a strong centre left voice to flush all this shit away.

DopeyDazy · 05/07/2017 08:28

JC is like a parent who promises his kids a brilliant Xmas but doesnt pay his mortgage and gets the house repoed a year later

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 05/07/2017 08:54

Tm is like a parent who has loads of money but never gives their kids anything and lets them live in poverty.

strikealight · 05/07/2017 09:00

We don't have loads of money. Bribing those feckers in the DUP doesn't mean we have loads of money. Don't be so childish.

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/07/2017 09:01

I think any whiff of Labour going down the far left sends those of a certain age scurrying to the right.

We have to remember JC offered everything and tm offered nothing and she still won by a substantial amount

The type of stuff JC is offering is nothing new it is just that those of a certain age remember how it turned out and don't want to repeat that era again.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 05/07/2017 09:04

I'm 53, l don't know anyone who has become more right wing as they get older. No one. And what some people need to remember is: as a young adult l lived through the horrendous Thatcher years. And they were truly awful.

Why would l vote for something similar because l'm older? I'd never vote Tory in a million years. However what l do remember was an almost fantastical worship of Thatcher from the people who benefitted from her credit boom and privatisation of various public companies. These are the idiots in the older demographic who are voting Conservative. But l agree that eventually they will die out. And l don't see Generation Rent or the Millennials will ever vote them in tbh

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 05/07/2017 09:04

I'd say one of the richest countries in the world who can find 1.5bn at drop of a hat has "loads of money" tbh.

Edsheeranalbumparty · 05/07/2017 09:15

It's interesting what people said upthread about many people becoming more right by as they get older - I (and some of my friends actually) have done the complete opposite. I used to be a lot more of a Tory type when I was younger (although have never actually voted Tory) but as I have got older, I don't know, I think I have come out of my own self centered bubble a bit more and seen the world around me and people who need help way more than I do and just thought things through a bit more, developed ability to feel empathy and am generally just a bit more compassionate.

Now I am really quite lefty!

The80sweregreat · 05/07/2017 09:21

The whole 'greed is good, no such thing as society' in the 80s ruined this country really - The conservatives just tapped into the working class votes even more than usual and a lot of people suddenly became much wealthier as a result. its now we are reaping the fallout of these policies and yes, Thatcher and her governments were in high esteem for reasons that i will never understand myself.
I have reservations about labour now too for a load of different reason, so i dont know who i truly support, but its not the tories! JC isnt perfect and the IRA links he has will hang around him forever i think too. they need a leader without any baggage really.

Edsheeranalbumparty · 05/07/2017 09:22

We don't have loads of money. Bribing those feckers in the DUP doesn't mean we have loads of money. Don't be so childish.

We do have loads of money, it's just distributed so unfairly that it seems like we don't. Plus, I know that £1 billion isn't absoluteky tonnes in the grand scheme, but still being able to pull that much money out of your arse at the drop of.a hat means there must a fair bit sloshing about!

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/07/2017 09:29

My dd is Generation Rent she is due to buy her first place as soon as she turns 18. Who do you think will own the places that Generation Rent will live in.
I know many people who have switched from Labour voters as they got older

Maybe after living under Labour and the mess they made for years Margaret Thatcher was a welcome release.

Lucysky2017 · 05/07/2017 09:36

Tax cedits in 1999 cost £1bn and now cost over £30bn. So yes we are certainly paying huge sums out particularly to young families with children who are on lower incomes.

Maxandrubyrubyandmax · 05/07/2017 09:47

Thatcher was a product of the 1970s complete fuck up that came about because of policies that are now being copied by Jezza. His policies are nothing new. Anyone can see the harder one side swing the further the other side go. However I think after the complete fuck up that was this GE have proved the Tories can't be complacent and they need to move more towards the centre which they now seem to be contemplating. It's called learning from your mistakes. Jc on the other hand will obviously never come this close to winning again (even though he was still some 20 percent behind the Tories seats) he promised everything and still lost convincingly!
