To think it's inevitable that JC will be PM and TM should just let it happen ASAP

They are now pretty much at the same popularity and in the years to come there will be millions more Labour voters and millions of Tory voters that will pass away. It's pretty much a done deal right? So why doesn't TM just go now?

Oh are those of us who argue with the OP the usual Tory suspects? I missed that one! I voted LD (while under no illusion that it would do any good) as the candidate was a good one. Because we were supposed to be voting for a local MP not the bloody messiah...
It's quite fashionable at the moment to dismiss older voters and their opinions, I do wonder what will happen when those who are wishing them away get old themselves and maybe find their own political opinions are out of fashion!

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 03/07/2017 14:38

Theresa May has so much charisma. Ahem

brexitstolemyfuture · 03/07/2017 14:55

Gosh I'm not wishing for a full of older people. But death is sadly a certainty in life.

My op maybe more thinking aloud and lacking in logic. But as the demographics of the country change it will have huge impacts, in many ways.

What's going to happen if the state pension keeps getting put up and is means tested away? Or when most of the country are forced to rent? Times are changing imo.

brexitstolemyfuture · 03/07/2017 14:56

Cull!

OP posts:
coldcanary · 03/07/2017 15:00

It's certainly lacking in logic.
Are you seriously suggesting that TM should just hand over the keys because the tories got more votes than labour but not a majority? Would you have said the same about Corbyn if the figures were reversed?

strikealight · 03/07/2017 15:20

Bad news, op. There are always "older people " and, even worse news, they have the vote.
I am in my 50s and can remember some of Corbyn's antics cosying up to the IRA about 5 minutes after the latest IRA outrage. Sorry, but no amount of rocking up to Glastonbury telling us to love each other blots that out for me. I'm Irish, btw.

The80sweregreat · 03/07/2017 15:25

I know a lot of young people that vote Conservative.
its not cut and dried that they will want the alternative. A lot follow their parents.

AlexaAmbidextra · 03/07/2017 15:48

OP At least yesterday you had the excuse of alcohol. Hmm

Fresh8008 · 03/07/2017 15:49

Why are young people so affluent that they can afford several hundred pounds for a weekend of drug and booze fueled reveling, yet they are so deprived they cant afford to contribute to their University education when they get into a good job?

Stoptherideiwannagetoff · 03/07/2017 16:10

Good lord do they ever stop? Hush... you're giving the rest of us a headache!

flyingwithwings · 03/07/2017 17:01

A lot of 'young' people who believe old people have no right to a vote , due to being irrelevant and wish they would die could do with watching the upcoming film Dunkirk !

Maybe the most entitled generation in history might appreciate the people that fought in the 2nd war either on the front line or the woman that served in ATS and concluded that such people should have two votes to their one !

Sadly many young people dismiss these people as old 'duffers' that should just curl up and die and their offspring (Baby Boomers) of being the devil incarnate !

BMW6 · 03/07/2017 17:06

OP have you hit the gin again?

strikealight · 03/07/2017 17:58

Op is not covering herself/himself in glory. Or is s/he a good advert for Momentum.

mummymeister · 03/07/2017 17:58

I think there is a really interesting point being made on this thread about the under 30 generation. they were the ones at school who weren't allowed to lose. this is when we had the ridiculous thing at sports day with everyone getting medals. more and more prizes are being given for effort and not attainment so the OP's post "I really, really want it so why hasn't it happened its not fair" really reflects this.

are you under 30 OP?

If young people don't want to pay uni fees then don't go. Get a job instead. or an apprenticeship. or start your own business.

I too feel a bit disgusted about the way "old" people (anyone over 50) is dismissed. especially when most Labour MP's fall into this category. but then of course have a look at the Momentum website and you will see that the board don't.

There are a lot of posters on this board who only post on politics. its almost like they are paid to do it and its their job.

brexitstolemyfuture · 03/07/2017 20:55

What exactly was wrong with my last post? It's pretty well known there demographics of the country will be changing significantly in the decades to come.

No I'm closer to 40. This isn't about not getting my way. Its about the shambles of the current government. Cash for questions is not allowed but cash for votes to hold a government together is. This sounds like a tin pot country

OP posts:
FriendPlease · 03/07/2017 21:53

Op I don't necessarily agree with your op but I notice all the anti corbyn gang out to get you on this thread.

petitdonkey · 03/07/2017 22:01

But if you look at the data by age over years and years you could come to the conclusion that a lot of people make the shift from voting labour to conservative between the ages of 30 and 40.

If that is true then the older generation dying off won't make a change as the people in their 40s will just replace them and so on and so on...

OliviaStabler · 03/07/2017 22:03

JC will never be PM. Thank goodness for that!

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 03/07/2017 22:05

Labour lost. Not enough people voted for them. More people who cared enough to vote wanted the Tories in power.

Yes, May's government is shambolic, just like her dreadful election campaign. And yet Labour still couldn't win. More people still preferred the Tories.

This isn't a success for Labour. It shows how shit they are right now.

SuperBeagle · 03/07/2017 22:05

What exactly was wrong with my last post? It's pretty well known there demographics of the country will be changing significantly in the decades to come.

It's certainly not "well known" that the demographics will shift in such a way that all Tory voters will die out and the only views left will be to the left on the political spectrum.

Because that's not going to happen.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 03/07/2017 22:27

Cash for questions is not allowed but cash for votes to hold a government together is.
Oh the double standards! More money for everything was the main thrust of Labour's campaign. Cash for votes was their manifesto!

Aeroflotgirl · 03/07/2017 22:31

Don't be so silly op!

FriendPlease · 03/07/2017 22:32

Vote wise tories really did not do that much better than labour. Of course tories have done an appalling job in power, making life in UK very difficult for a lot of people. But they do have large portion of msm behind them spreading lies about labour and mainly corbyn and that's worked well for some time but I think lot of people are finally starting to realise that actually this has nothing to do with labour or corbyn but all about how tories have failed.

brexitstolemyfuture · 03/07/2017 23:01

Thanks FriendPlease, people here are downplaying JC and how well he has done. Just a 1.2% switch to labour and they would have won the popular vote.

OP posts:
Alltheprettyseahorses · 03/07/2017 23:08

What are the lies? Corbyn's documented history pre-July 2015 is distinctly different from the bizarre Momentum revisions.
