To think private ultrasounds shouldn't charge you full price if it's a miscarriage?

I just paid £80 for someone to tell me my baby is most likely dead.

Given the majority of people do not experience this and that the price is so high anyway, AIBU to think charging someone after telling them their baby is dead is just cruel?!

I'm sorry for your loss, but they are a business and ultimately don't care about your welfare, only their profits.

That's so sad, I'm so sorry. Is this done in a hospital? Do you now get referred back to your midwife/clinic to determine what is happening? It does seem heartless to charge you, but aside from that I hope you get the help you need with this Flowers

Spanneroo · 01/07/2017 10:47

I'm really sorry op. I have been through several and it never gets easier Flowers

However, they are running a business and charging you is part of that sadly. This is one of the reasons that despite my history, I have turned down all early scans every time and would never pay for an early private scan.

Take it easy on yourself OP Flowers

Goldenphoenix · 01/07/2017 10:48

I'm so sorry, same thing happened to me first time around. They are a business though so we just paid without question. So sorry for your loss.

DontOpenDeadInside · 01/07/2017 10:49

How far on are/were you? What does "most likely" mean? Aren't they sure?
So sorry you are going through this, it must have been really hard to hear Flowers

AtHomeDadGlos · 01/07/2017 10:49

That's terrible for you.

But YABU. They have staff and bills to pay.

DragonsandDungeons · 01/07/2017 10:49

I've been referred back to EPAU. There was still a heartbeat but it's faint and it's only grown 1mm in 10 days so told I'm likely going to miscarry soon.

Probably am being unreasonable about the charge. It just seems a bit heartless but that's why I don't run a business I guess

SpongySand · 01/07/2017 10:49

I think to some people offering them a discount at that moment would seem like more of an insult than paying full price but i do understand what you mean. My condolences to you OP at this time Flowers

Floralnomad · 01/07/2017 10:50

I think you are in a very emotional place at the moment and that is , as you probably know , clouding your judgement .

LisaSimpsonsbff · 01/07/2017 10:50

Just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss Flowers

But sorry to hear that also my heart is with you that way

Ellisandra · 01/07/2017 10:53

I'm very sorry that you're going through this.
They are right to charge - I expect that your anger at the situation is just hitting out everywhere at the moment.
Flowers I hope you have better news at EPAU x

LittleLionMansMummy · 01/07/2017 10:54

So sorry op Flowers

But as others have said, private healthcare exists to make money and solely to make money. Situations like this really emphasise its crassness.

DontOpenDeadInside · 01/07/2017 10:55

Do you know when you will be seen (how far on are you?) I don't pray, but I really hope it's good news for you x

DragonsandDungeons · 01/07/2017 10:56

I'm supposed to be 8 weeks but baby is 4mm :(

I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you get better news at the EPAU x

TippyTinkleTrousers · 01/07/2017 10:57

That's horrible OP I'm so sorry.

I was thinking exactly the same this morning. I have a scan in a bit because I'm worried something was wrong. I asked if I could pay the full amount on the phone during the booking because the thought of paying someone after they give me bad news makes me feel sick.

My heart goes out to you.

DragonsandDungeons · 01/07/2017 10:58

Yeah I think I'd have preferred to pay before I went in.

Hope you get good news Tippy

I'm so sorry this is happening to you OP.

suewiang that was quite a crass reply.

MaximaDeWit · 01/07/2017 11:00

I'm so sorry OP.

It must have been awful getting that news and then being charged.

HipsterRaccoon · 01/07/2017 11:01

So sorry you're going through this. I had a similar experience, and there was something horrifying about having to pay after getting the bad news, putting my pin into the card machine and being handed a receipt like it was just another business transaction rather than the worst news of my life Sad

eternalopt · 01/07/2017 11:02

Maybe give them some feedback at a later date that paying before you go in might be better for this reason?

Billben · 01/07/2017 11:05

I'm sorry you have to go through this, but YABU regarding the price. If the scan showed twins, should they upp their price? Your emotional state must be affecting your judgment.
